The Marauding Seven - YEAR 1 (Ch. 5)

"Okay, Lil. What's up with James? You trip over his truck, and then you hate him for evermore. A tad over the top if you ask me," stated Alex.

"Al, she doesn't hate James! She likes him!" cried Wye.

"I DO NOT!" shouted Lily. Kate simply picked up her duvet and wrapped Lily in it. "Hey!" was just audible, though very muffled, through the layers of material. Kate grinned.

"I agree. And, I think he likes her!" Kate sounded so excited that even Lily couldn't help laughing. Kate unwrapped her, on the promise of not shouting again. Lily agreed - it had been getting hard to breathe. The girl chat carried on for a few minutes, before they started talking about their first day. In particular, Gambol and Payne.

"Payne is a real pain!" complained Lily, giggling at her joke.

"She's not as bad as Gambol," added Alex darkly.

"Gambol's mean, Payne's boring," Wye said flatly.

"What do you think of Lang and Flitwick?" asked Kate, talking about their Transfiguration, and Charms teachers.

"They're okay. Flitwick's nice. I like Charms," said Lily.

"Me too," added Alex.

A few hours later all the talk had vanished. Lily and Kate were asleep at least, but Alex wasn't. Wye was tossing and turning as well, so even if she was asleep, she wasn't peaceful. Finally Alex got up. The moonlight from the window shone onto her watch. One o'clock. She trudged down to the common room. Maybe she could read or something.

Seeing Alex go, Wye sat up as well. Maybe she should go talk. Still, if she didn't get some sleep she'd be a zombie in classes tomorrow, and as it would only be their second day, that probably wasn't good. Wye sighed, and threw back the covers. It was no good - she was going down.

Wye walked into the common room in her 'Little Miss Naughty' pyjamas and her teddy bear - Mr Fuzzles. Perhaps the fire would help her sleep. On the couch nearest the fire was Alex, but she wasn't alone. A closer look indicated Sirius and Remus were still up as well. She plopped down next too Sirius and stared at the fire. Then Sirius spoke.

"We should have a name."

"We do - I'm Remus, your Sir-"

"No," said Sirius, a touch impatient, but more than a bit sleepy. "A name for the seven of us..."

"What about - The Gryffindor First Years!" said Alex with mock enthusiasm.

"I can see it in lights," Wye said dully.

"No, like a club or group name. One that reflects our personalities," Sirius said through a yawn.

"How about - The Magical Group," said Remus, but he didn't really like it. "We're all magical, anyway."

"Yeah, Remus, great," said Alex sarcastically.

"I was thinking more, The Something's," Sirius informed them.

"The Some- never mind, forget it," Wye couldn't be bothered.

"The Rolling Stones!" cried Alex.

"I like it..." Sirius said slowly.

"It's taken - Muggle rock group - quite old," Wye stated.

"Damn."

"How about...The Magical Mischief Makers?" Remus said. He had been very quiet. Alex guessed he'd been working on this.

"It's cool, but a bit long. It could be, like, our 'official' name, but for everyday use we have something shorter," Sirius said excitedly. The four of them sank into silence.

"The Marauders," said Wye very quietly.

"YES!" yelled Sirius. He jumped up and pulled Wye into a big hug. "It's perfect! Uh - does everybody else like it?" he asked hesitantly. Remus and Alex nodded, grins on their faces. "Great!"

After a few more minutes of jumping around, Sirius sat back down on the couch. "Goodnight Marauders, the Magical Mischief Makers of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," Sirius said quietly. There was no point, though. They were all asleep.
