Hermione was very concerned about the next day. "What am I gonna do, what am I gonna do?" she kept asking herself.
It was unbelievable how she could get the highest marks in Hogwarts' history, but could be stupid enough to accept being a cheerleader.
"What is wrong with me? Why do I have that 'proving Ron wrong' thing?!" a voice in the back of her head asked desperately. She didn't know anything about being a cheerleader. It was too hard to fall asleep that night. The thoughts of the whole situation couldn't let her sleep. Everything was so confusing...
In the morning, Hermione woke up quite relaxed. It was just another peaceful and nice Saturday. She could go and have breakfast, then take a walk around the grounds and in the afternoon, make her homework (which was for two weeks from next Monday). She was taking a bath when, to her disgrace, she remembered about the cheerleader thing. The whole plans for her day were ruined. But she had got herself into this situation, and there was no way back. The time had come, and she had to do it.
When she was done, she put her cheerleader uniform on, and for a second the thought that she actually looked cute, crossed her mind. Hermione shook her head and went down to the common room. Harry and Ron were there, apparently waiting for Hermione. When they saw her, both stayed frozen. Ron's mouth was hanging, and by a miracle his eyes hadn't pop out.
"What are you looking at?" Hermione asked; her cheeks slightly pink, since she already knew the answer. "Hey! Guys.... are you still alive?"
Her friends reacted to this.
"Hermione... well, it's just that..." Harry cleared his throat. "Hmmm... well, we hadn't seen you like this before."
"Yeah... there's A LOT you had not shown us," Ron blurted.
Hermione glared at him.
"... I mean, spiritually, of course... you need a lot of spirit to go out there and cheer..." he added untruthfully, not even believing himself.
"Right." Hermione said. "I must go now."
"I'll go with you!" Ron told her.
"Why?"
"You are my friend.... and I.... have to encourage you to go on..."
"Then why doesn't Harry come?"
Ron gave Harry a dangerous look.
"I'm busy" Harry answered.
"Whatever... I'll see you later, then," Hermione told him.
Ron followed Hermione throw the portrait hole; they stayed silent.
Just before getting out of the castle, Hermione stopped to tight her shoe. Ron kept walking, but slower.
When she stood up, Hermione felt a pair of hands grabbing her around the waist; and then she heard a cold voice in her ear saying: "What's up hot stuff?"
She turned around rapidly. "MALFOY?! What the hell are you doing?!!!," she yelled madly.
Ron turned around and took out his wand.
Draco took a couple steps backwards. "GRANGER?!" he shouted horrified. " DAMN! What are you doing with that uniform on?!"
Ron walked towards Malfoy, pointing him with his wand. "GET AWAY FROM HER!" he cried.
Malfoy took a couple more steps backwards. "Granger?" he kept muttering again and again, neither believing what he had just done nor how different Hermione looked. He decided to better go away.
"God! When you thought Malfoy couldn't be worse..." Hermione told Ron.
"Be thankful I was here to scare him away," Ron stated heroically.
Hermione rolled her eyes. "From an idiot to another...", she said under her breath.
"What happened anyway?" Ron asked.
"Forget it. You better not know."
The two friends continued walking till they got to the quiddith pitch.
For a moment or so, Ron thought he had died and gone to heaven. Many of the girls he knew were there; but most, he had no idea who they were. Anyway, who cared? What really mattered were their great looks...
"Hermione!" Lavender Brown called.
"Hi!" Hermione answered, still a bit confused about the situation.
As Lavender walked towards her, she noticed Ron was there too. "He's not joining the squad too. Is he?" she asked worriedly.
"No!" Hermione told her mate. "He's obviously here for the miniskirts, if you know what I mean."
"Sure. That must explain why is he here too...", Lavender said, pointing at a silver haired boy sitting on a bench.
Hermione took a step forward to get a better look at the boy, just to find out the awful truth: it was Malfoy.
"Great!" Hermione exclaimed sarcastically. "Like if I hadn't had enough of him."
"Just forget it. Come with me, we are about to start," Lavender told her.
Ron was taken away from "Wet- Dreams Land" when, between the bunch of girls in the place, he noticed a certain red head...
"GINNY?!" he cried. "What in the name of Merlin are you doing here?!"
His sister walked towards him. "I'm a cheerleader. Daaah!"
"No you are not."
"Yes I am, look at me."
"What's wrong with that uniform?" Ron asked, pulling her skirt slightly, trying to stretch it.
"Stop it!"
"Kids! Kids! That's enough." Hermione had caught sight of what was happening and went to pull them apart. "Ron leave her alone. You didn't say anything wrong about my skirt!"
"Well, that's... that's different!" he bellowed.
"Look, you can stay here and watch us or go away right now, we won't miss you," Hermione added.
Ron stayed silent. "I'll look for a sit." He walked and found out that the bench he had spotted was already taken, but didn't bother to struggle for it, and sat on the ground.
"Now Ginny, let's go and join the rest."
"ALL RIGHT EVERYONE!" Lavender called out. "WELCOME TO THE GRYFFINDOR CHEERLEADER SQUAD. I'M LAVENDER BROWN, YOUR CAPTAIN. LET'S BEGIN, SHALL WE?"
