Chapter Fourteen

In the morning, Hermione woke up before Ron left to go to the Great Hall for breakfast. "Can you get Madam Pomfrey for me?" Hermione asked politely.

"Sure," Ron said as he walked into Madam Pomfrey's office.

Hermione hoped Madam Pomfrey would let her return to her classes. She couldn't miss anymore. She was already looking at two weeks worth of homework and classwork, she couldn't add any more to it.

She entered the hospital wing and checked Hermione over. Madam Pomfrey asked Hermione simple questions to test her memory. Hermione answered them impatiently, but correctly and looked at Madame Pomfrey in anticipation.

"Well?" Hermione said, expectantly.

"Well," she said. "I suppose you may go to your classes, but right after your last class, I want you to come here immediately. I want to check you over one last time."

Hermione nodded and hopped out of bed, grinning, and headed straight for her dormitory.

*~*~*~*~*

Hermione pulled a blue, plaid skirt and a gray jumper out of her trunk and quickly dressed herself. Hermione found her robe, with her Head Girl pin pinned to it, tidily folded on her bed. She assumed Ginny had put it there. She would have to remember to thank her. Hermione brushed her hair and pulled it up into a bun, then hurried to the Great Hall.

*~*~*~*~*

Hermione exited the Gryffindor tower. Many students stared at her. Others smiled and kindly waved to her, welcoming her back. She felt like a movie star at a premiere. Now she knew how Harry felt. Harry always said he hated being treated special and being followed or whispered about, and now Hermione knew why.

When she entered the Great Hall, many eyes fell upon her. She blushed slightly and quickly retreated to the Gryffindor table, between Harry and Ron.

She helped herself to a slice of toast and joined into Harry and Ron's conversation about Harry's Occlumency lessons.

"I heard you died," an obnoxious voice said behind them. "But I guess we're not that lucky."

Hermione, Ron, and Harry turned around. Malfoy was towering over them with an evil smirk on his face.

"Well, I heard that Mad-Eye Moody was back and turned you back into 'Malfoy the Bouncing Ferret'." Malfoy took a step forward, obviously insulted. "Don't test me, Malfoy, I'd do it in an instant," Hermione threatened him, pulling her wand out of her pocket.

Everyone in hearing distance went silent and stared at Malfoy, waiting for a comeback, but none came. He glared at her and backed away, returning to his table.

Hermione rolled her eyes. Why are the cute guys always gay or mean?

"Hermione, it's good you came up with a good comeback, otherwise I would have taken a good swing at him," Ron commented.

"A curse would have suited him better, if you ask me," Harry suggested.

"My Heroes," Hermione said, wrapping her arms around them and pulling them into a big hug.

"Ugh," they moaned, trying to get out of the embrace.

"Boys," Hermione sighed.

"Girls," Harry and Ron groaned.

She hadn't felt this good in a long time.
