Chapter Four

Once outside the train, Hermione realized she had lost her friends in the crowd. She looked around the crowd hoping to see a red head or a group of people whispering, signifying that Harry was near by, but Hermione couldn't see anyone she knew, not even Luna. Hermione made her way over to the carriages in hope that one of her friends would find her.

Suddenly, Hermione was shoved from behind and fell to the cobblestone street. Hermione looked up only to find Malfoy glaring down at her.

"Out of my way, you Mudblood. I'm walking here," Malfoy sneered. Hermione stood up and started to pull her wand out of her robe pocket. Somebody grabbed her hand as she lifted the wand out of her pocket.

"Don't Hermione. He's not worth getting detention for," Ron warned her. Hermione obeyed him and placed the wand back in her pocket. "C'mon, let's get to the carriages before they're all filled," Ron suggested. Hermione followed him toward the thestral led carriages.

"Have you seen any of the others?" Hermione asked Ron.

"No, I think we all got lost in the crowd. It looks like there are more students than usual," Ron commented.

Hermione nodded and Ron opened the door to an empty carriage. Hermione climbed in and Ron followed after her.

The carriages filled quickly, but for some reason Ron and Hermione's remained empty.

The carriage started to move and Hermione stared out the window. She thought about the past few hours. Why had she gotten so upset? Was it because Harry had broken up with her so he could date Cho? Or was it just the fact that they broke up?

A tear rolled down her cheek, but Hermione quickly wiped it away. She had cried enough for one day and didn't want to make Ron more uncomfortable.

She felt Ron's hand slide into hers and a wave of warmth fell over her. She didn't feel very sad or happy, just content.

Hermione rested her head on the cold window and closed her eyes. Soon she'll be at Hogwarts. She'll get to see all her friends and teachers.

Hermione fell asleep in the middle of her thoughts and woke to the sound of a loud cat and Ron yelling, "You damn cat!"

Hermione yawned, "What are you doing, Ron?"

"I was trying to get your stuff and Crookshanks out without waking you, but obviously that plan's a bust," he explained.

"That's so sweet, thank you, Ron," Hermione said, blushing.

"You're welcome, now will you help me?" Ron asked in an annoyed tone.

"I thought you were going to be a gentleman," Hermione joked. She loved seeing him mad.

"When have you ever known me to be a gentleman?" Ron retorted.

Hermione quickly got up and grabbed Crookshanks. Ron grabbed her purse and his bag as they headed towards the castle. "You're carrying my purse for me, you are a gentleman," Hermione commented.

Hermione then proceeded to plant a kiss on Ron's cheek. Ron's ears turned bright red and a smile crossed his face as they continued towards the castle.
