Chapter 3:
The Amulet of the Eye
"What the devil is Hermione up to?" Harry questioned.
Just then Hermione ran up to them panting. She waved a piece of parchment in front of Ron's face and he quickly glanced at it and read the words Draco Malfoy.
"What does this...? OH!" Ron exclaimed realizing something, "Don't you know what time it is?! Ginny has been alone with DRACO MALFOY for 11 minutes and 38 seconds!"

Ginny was beginning to get restless waiting for her supposed "admirer" when she heard a movement behind her. She whirled around in anticipation and came face to face with Draco Malfoy.
"Don't shout!" Draco told her even though she appeared speechless. "Are you surprised?" he asked her.
"This is the sickest thing you have ever done you...you sleaze!" Ginny yelled at him turning red in the face. She expected some sort of witty insult to come back at her but she was surprised by Malfoy's silence.
"This isn't a joke," Malfoy said with a sincere look, or so she thought.
"Yeah right," Ginny spat. "And I'm the Minister of Magic," she said, walking away.
"No! Come back!" Draco said, following her as she started to walk faster. "You need to let me explain!"
Ginny turned around hesitantly. Even though it seemed that her whole body was telling her not to, her heart told her to let him talk.
"This better not be a trap you insufferable git," she said sitting on the bench by the broom shed. "Spill."
"I realized that that letter confused you, but it's true," Draco started. "After I betrayed my father I started developing feelings for you. Then I began to have dreams, which involved you and me and an amulet of some sort. I was really confused by this. Then I started feeling a different sort of connection with you..."
"Wa..." Ginny began but Draco cut her off.
"No! If I don't say this now I'll never get it out!" Draco said earnestly. "This connection wasn't just any physical connection. I could feel a power coming from you...it's hard to explain. There were times when I got flashes of what you were thinking. You know you should really start paying attention in Potions..."
Ginny was stunned.
"But I don't get it, I mean I have sort of been noticing something different... and what's this whole change of heart business?" Ginny asked. "And I don't feel comfortable with this whole 'love letter extravaganza'..."
"Well, I realized that I was brainwashed into believing that pure-bloods were superior and the Dark Lord was all mighty," Draco answered. "When I figured out that my mother was forced to marry my father with illegal love potions, my mother and I started trying to escape my father, which proved to be more difficult than we thought."
Just as Draco finished Ron, followed by Harry and Hermione came running at them.
"YOU BLOODY BASTARD!" a red-faced Ron shouted at Draco. "GET AWAY FROM MY SISTER!"
"Ginny! Thank God you're safe," Hermione exclaimed.
An obviously freaked out Draco Malfoy started towards the castle as the trio fawned over Ginny.
"We can talk later," said an unfamiliar voice said in Ginny's mind.
"M-Malfoy?" she thought in mild shock.
"You got that right," Draco told her smugly.

It was 2:01 and Ginny Weasley was sitting in a chair unable to sleep.
I wonder if Malfoy's awake, Ginny thought to herself.
Well now I am, he replied, startling her. What's the matter, Ginny?
Since when were we on a first name basis?
Since you woke me up at two o'clock in the morning. You didn't answer my question?
I couldn't sleep, she admitted.
Because you were thinking of me, of course.
Not everything is about you, you know. But you just really confused me today.
Yeah, I figured so. I can show you what I mean if you want, He offered.
How?
Like this.
All of a sudden a picture popped into her mind.
Draco Malfoy was sitting in the study when a thin and pale blonde woman walked in looking disheveled. Draco looked up obviously disturbed by his mother's appearance.
"Lucius..." Narcissa said looking troubled. "Is that you?"
"No mum," Draco said confused. "It's me, Draco, your son."
"No! You are not Draco! He is only twelve months old!" she said in vain. "What's going on here? Yesterday I was sleeping next to Lucius and today I wake up next to a scary old man!"
Draco started connecting the dots and performed memory recollection spell and watched as a look of understanding appeared on his mother's face followed by one of pure hatred.
"Mother."
"I can't believe that man!" Narcissa said in exasperation. "He had me under love potions for 17 years!" memories rushed into her mind and a puzzled Draco looked at her.
"Mother, I don't understand," Draco said. Narcissa looked at him lovingly.
"I'll tell you, but you cannot let your father know," Narcissa said sitting down next to her son.
"A year after you were born, Lucius admitted to me that he was a Death Eater. At first I did not care of his plans for himself and for you, but that night Professor Dumbledore came to me and told me that the Order needed you and your special power. He also said that Voldemort and Lucius' true plans were to kill you. I feared for our lives and tried to run but Lucius intercepted me and binded me with devotion charms and love potions. I know that you have been brought up to believe the ways of the Dark Lord but we must put our faith in Dumbledore."
Draco was worried about his mother's sanity.
"You must choose your path now. Follow me and Dumbledore, or your father and Voldemort."
Draco was torn between the way he had been brought up - the pain, the torture, and the pureblooded nonsense as he now saw it to be, - and the loving mother who he had never truly known. After many minutes he chose his fate.
"I will follow you."
Wow, Ginny thought.
Yeah, I guess we should go visit the Headmaster, Draco proposed.
Now?!
Why not? Draco asked sincerely.
What the heck? Meet you there in five minutes, Ginny answered.
***********************
Draco walked up from the dungeons and headed towards Dumbledore's office. He stood there for three minutes waiting for Ginny to arrive.
"Hey," she said with a yawn, startling him.
Draco was about to say the password when the door swung open.
"Come in, come in," Dumbledore said, "I've been expecting you."
"Really?" Ginny wondered out loud. A smile spread across the old man's face.
"Actually no, I just enjoy saying that," he said with a chuckle. "Now why have you come to me at this hour?"
"Well starting a couple days ago, Ginny and I have been able to speak through our minds," Draco explained.
"Mmmm..." Dumbledore said, "I had an idea that this would happen soon."
"What would happen soon, sir?" Ginny asked.
"The other with the Power of the Eye," He answered. "We always knew one of them was Mister Malfoy, but we have been waiting to see who his partner would be. And that as I have gathered, is you." Dumbledore took out a small glass box and held it out to them.
"These, or this, is the Amulet of the Eye," Dumbledore explained. "With it many powers will be yours, as long as you stay together." Ginny opened the box to find an Amulet split in two in the shape of an Eye.
"Hey kids," the Amulet said startling Draco and Ginny. "It's been a long time since we've been put to use, our name is Burnie. I'm Burt and he's Ernie."
"Hello. Nice to meet you," Ernie said happily as he flew to Ginny and tied himself around her neck. Burt did the same to Draco. Dumbledore saw the look on their faces and explained.
"With this Amulet comes powers, responsibilities, and dangers," explained the Headmaster. "In your first and second years, when Lucius gave Miss Weasley the diary of Tom Marvolo Riddle, I thought it was a coincidence. Now I see not. I presume that Lucius wanted Ginny dead so the life of his son could be spared." There was a look of shock displayed on the young teens' faces.
"Lucius Malfoy wanted me dead?" Ginny exclaimed.
"My father wanted to save my life?" Draco said with a disgusted look.
"It seems so," Dumbledore said sadly. "With this Amulet, you will be able to see into the future. Specifically to what Voldemort is planning. Try it and you shall see." Draco and Ginny hesitantly turned towards each other and joined the Amulet together. Upon contact they felt a rushing wind and were transported to an unknown location.
A young woman who seemed to be located somewhere vaguely familiar, though it was too dark to tell, screamed as Voldemort raised his wand.
"Crucio!"
A scream like no other that Ginny had heard (Draco had watched this many times) erupted from the woman's throat. Ginny grasped Draco's arm tightly. Draco looked surprised but pleased.
"I'll protect you!" Ginny heard in her mind.
"Draco, they can't actually see us you know?"
"Well it's the thought that counts," he said dejectedly.
All of a sudden the vision stopped and they found themselves in Dumbledore's office yet again.
"The first vision is always a short one," Dumbledore said with a smile. "Now go off to bed." The two teens left in a daze from all that had happened in such a short time.
They are perfect for each other, Dumbledore thought, I wonder if I should tell them?
*****************
Outside Dumbledore's office there was silence.
"So," Draco started, "What now?"
"I don't know," Ginny said frustrated with their current situation. "It's still weird that you're being all nice." A sincere look appeared on Draco's face. He stepped closer.
"I know," he whispered as a shiver went down Ginny's spine, "But we have to stick together, what with this 'power' that we suddenly have." Draco leaned in as Ginny's heart was beating faster. Loud footsteps echoed through the hall as a distraught girl who looked about their age rushed down the hall and into the Headmaster's office without stopping to notice them.
D-did you see that girl?! Ginny thought frightened.
Merlin, Draco said looking into Ginny's eyes, it's her!
