- Ok, If you are wondering when canon characters will appear, please be patient, they'll be here soon; I just needed to introduce Jade. This story, I admit it, isn't fairly cliche, but I'm warming up and promise to write better fic in the future. This is simply my sister, Erin's, birthday present!
"Jade, you will not live to see daylight again if you don´t hand over my wand right now!" Jasmine shouted as she ransacked her desktop. "Mom and Dad said we need to leave in five minutes and there´s no way I can go to school without it!"
"Jasmine, why would your loving, adoring sister do such a nasty thing to you? Perhaps you left it at Jacob´s house last night." Jade suggested innocently.
Her twin sister blushed a deep scarlet that contrasted oddly with her green eyes. "Oh Jade, don´t start something you can´t finish."
"My sweet sister, I don´t know what you mean. But I´m very surprised, and terribly hurt, that you would believe me to have taken your precious wand and not even consider the possibility you left it at Boyfriend Chubby Lips--"
Her sarcasm was cut short by a pillow slamming into the side of her face.
"You were saying, Jade?" Jasmine calmly asked with a smirk, preparing to swing the pillow again. "Or perhaps I should just ask your cohort what you did with it."
She turned to face the Newfoundland sprawled on the lower bunk bed. He lifted his eyes to watch Jasmine stride over to him.
"Toby, do me a huge favor, will you? Immature Jade here has hidden my wand and I need it back. I´ll give you a Big Mac if you get it for me." Jasmine wheedled the dog while Jade shook her head frantically behind her sister´s back. Jade tried to get her pet to read her lips, "DO NOT GET THE WAND!!"
Toby cocked his head amusedly at Jade, yawned and hopped off the bed. Padding over to Jade´s dirty clothes heap, he scratched and dug at the pile and soon extracted a strip of wood.
Jasmine grabbed the wand and smiled triumphantly at Jade who muttered "stupid, traitorous mutt." Toby gave a bark that sounded almost like a laugh.
"Shotgun!" Jasmine shouted suddenly.
"Not if I get there first!"
The twin seventeen year olds bolted down the stairs and out the back door. Their father, Orion Walker, was just closing the trunk, hiding the girls´ school things when he saw his two curly headed daughters racing toward the car.
Jade slammed her hand against the passenger side door first and turned gloatingly to Jasmine.
"Yeah, yeah, shut-up Jade," she muttered and crawled into the back seat.
"What? I didn´t say a word," she grinned and began to open the front door when she was tapped on the shoulder. Their mother, Jenna, stood behind Jade, arms crossed over her chest and smiled crookedly.
"Uh-uh, sweetie, you´re in the back. Moi gets shotgun."
Grumbling, Jade crawled in beside her smirking sister. "Yeah, yeah, shut-up Jasmine."
Orion climbed in behind the wheel and turned the key. He smiled into the rearview mirror at his daughters, "So how does it feel to be going to Memorial Academy for the last time?"
Jasmine grinned and leaned back, "Oh, if they thought we were handfuls before, they have another thing coming. I wanna go out with a bang this year!"
"No more letters from the Headmaster, okay?" Orion warned as he turned the corner. "Anthony Douglass might be an old friend of mine but I don´t think I´ll be able to smooth anything over if you burn down the school or something."
"Nah, Starboy, we won´t burn down Memorial. The potions lab perhaps, if we´re lucky, but not the whole school." Jade grinned mischievously. `Starboy´ had always been Jade´s nickname for her father.
"I´ll pretend I´m not hearing this. The way you two keep going, it´s only a matter of time until the muggle police as well as your ministry are after you." Jenna chuckled. She wore her mop of black curls short, just above her collar and looked like an older version of her long-haired daughters, except they took their father´s deep green eyes instead of her icy blues.
Jenna was a muggle. She worked in the K-9 unit for the Washington DC police department, while Orion was an Auror for the Ministry of Magic. They had met at a London pub by chance - she was vacationing with her college roommates and he was an Auror intern, fresh out of Hogwarts. After months of letters and rare visits, Orion fell head over heels for her, transferred to the American Ministry and soon they were married. Jenna accepted his status as wizard as perfectly natural.
They drove outside of DC. Orion pulled off the interstate and their car rolled over gentle hills and through thick forests. A high wrought iron gate came into view and Orion pulled up. The gates swung open on their own and he drove through.
To Jenna, all she could see was a wide hill top and open fields. In the back of her mind, she kept remembering some sort of dire meeting she should be at, but this nagging, urgent reminder, she understood was just the Muggle Repellent Charm guarding the school. It was annoying, but she was used to it after bringing the girls here for seven years.
The girls clambered out of the backseat and unloaded their trunks. Numerous students milled over the school grounds, saying goodbye to their parents and greeting each other.
"Well, have a good year, you two. Send an owl home every so often to let us know you´re still alive, ok?" said Orion, hugging them.
"We´ll see you at Christmas. Have fun and we love you guys," Jenna smiled and hugged them too.
The twins lugged their trunks away, waving over their shoulders at their parents. They were soon joined by a number of their friends.
Jenna watched their retreating backs as they suddenly disappeared, knowing they must be inside the school. Orion wrapped his arms around her and she leaned her head onto his shoulder. "Tell me again, Orion, that the Death Eaters can´t find this place," she whispered.
"Don´t worry, all wizarding schools have enough protective shields over them that a herd of dragons wouldn´t even get within a hundred yards of the students." She shuddered at the mention of dragons, what used to be only myths to her. He squeezed her tighter. "And besides, our girls have become powerful enough that they might easily be able to hold their own against the DEs. I´m just happy Voldemort hasn´t paid much attention to the states yet. This American clan is practically tame next to what´s going on in Britain."
Jade and Jasmine sat in their History of Magic classroom, counting the minutes remaining until the bell.
"How much longer?" Jade asked.
"Two minutes less than the last time you asked," Jasmine said.
Jade rolled her eyes and laid her head on her arms. She couldn´t wait for the Halloween feast that night.
An announcement sounded on the loudspeaker. "Students relocate immediately to Greenhouse One and find your prefects. No need to panic... but hurry! Evacuate the school for your own safety." The Head Boy´s voice sounded shaky and frightened.
Jasmine jabbed her elbow into Jade and pointed out the window. Dozens of shrouded figures moved out of the woods encircling the school and advanced upon a small group of teachers.
Jade nodded grimly and said, "Grab your wand and let´s get as many seventh years together as we can."
Their classmates seemed to think the same and they rushed out of the room, dodging the younger students. It was pandemonium in the halls as the students stampeded to the back doors and towards the greenhouses. No teachers were in sight; they were already hurrying out to defend the school.
The twins and their friends burst through the front doors and entered a scene unlike anything they had ever witnessed even in nightmares. A full battle raged on the lawn between teachers and Death Eaters.
"What the hell do you guys think you´re doing out here?!" shrieked the charms teacher.
"Back off, Professor. Without us, you are extremely out numbered," Jade shouted and sent a curse at the nearest DE. With a groan, he collapsed.
The students gave a strong fight. Several DEs were stunned or cursed. But the students and teachers also had casualties. Jade glanced over her shoulder just to see the charms teacher she had spoken to moments before, blasted with a bright green light. She fell instantly to the ground, lifeless.
The DE that had killed her gave a high, cold laugh and suddenly shot off a spell at the school. A bright orange beam of light streaked through the air and exploded against the building. Flames began to lick up the walls and smoke billowed out the windows.
Officer Jenna Walker was returning from a drug bust to the city when a bright red mustang cut her off and sped down an exit ramp from the interstate. Jenna wasn´t a traffic patrol cop but blatant law breaking - like speeding 25 miles over the limit on a ramp - just pissed her off. She flicked on her lights and followed the mustang.
The sports car she was pursuing didn´t seem ready to slow down any time soon. And then it struck Jenna where she being inadvertently led. Memorial Academy was just over the hill.
Jenna glanced at he black gates and instantly the speeding red mustang was driven from her mind.
She could see Memorial Academy of Magic. But not only could she see it, she could see the mayhem surrounding the burning building. Jenna slammed on her brakes and grabbed her gun.
When Memorial was hit, the students and teachers lost their edge. They were dropping all across the lawn. The DEs laughter mixed gruesomely with the crackling fire and screams of the injured.
Jade and Jasmine had moved and were standing on both sides of Headmaster Douglass. Wordlessly, they named themselves his sentries, always believing that as long as he stood, everything would work out.
The leader of the Death Eaters swaggered forward. Lazily twirling his wand between his fingers, he began to sing "Eeny Meeny Miny MOE!"
A hot-pink curse fired through his wand and hit Jasmine squarely in the chest. She collapsed.
Jade watched her fall in slow motion. The sounds of the battle and the fire dissolved as Jade flung herself on the ground next to her dying sister.
"Damn, Jade, you´re not the prince charming that´s supposed to be in my long-drawn-out Romantic dying scene," Jasmine gasped out.
Tears streaming down Jade´s cheeks, she cried, "Shut up! How can you joke in a time like this?"
Jasmine grimaced, "When else will I have the time to joke, huh? Promise me, Jade, to take care of Mom and Dad."
"Shh, you´re going to be fine, ok?"
"Yeah, sure. I´m finally beating you, Jade. I get to see the afterlife first. Take them apples," she croaked softly.
"No, no, no! God, please, don´t die, Jasmine," Jade sobbed.
She winked, "Kick that guy´s ass for me, won´t you, Jade?" And her last breath escaped her blue lips. Jasmine was gone.
"Oh, how touching. I feel just warm and fuzzy all over," the lead Death Eater shrieked with maniacal laughter, watching the sobbing Jade.
He threw a casual curse over his shoulder and the Headmaster dropped dead.
Jenna leapt from her car in time to see her daughter fall to the ground. An icy cold fear knotted her stomach as she raced to Jasmine´s prone body. But then a searing hatred began to boil in her blood .
The DEs, at first shocked and amused at the sight of her muggle clothes and gun, let her pass them, until she raised her pistol and shot the nearest hooded figure. He fell dead in a heap. She killed two more, dodged a series of curses and neared her daughters.
"All right, time for you to join your sister!" The lead DE roared and raised his wand. "Avada Ked--"
A gun shot fired. The DE screamed out as the bullet blew his hand clutching the wand to pieces. His hood fell back, revealing his snarling grimace and black, lethal eyes. He cradled his bloody stump of an arm at his chest and yelled at his Death Eaters. "Kill her!"
Jenna shielded Jade and screamed, "Run for it, Jade! I´ll cover you! GO!!!!"
Trembling, Jade got to her feet in a daze and began to stumble backwards as Jenna fired off several rounds at the charging DEs.
One shot out a bright green curse straight at Jenna. Jade watched her mother fall, just like Jasmine had. Jade´s breath caught in her throat, she ran back to her mother´s lifeless body and buried her face onto her shoulder.
A DE lowered his wand to her head and was about to finish her off when the leader shouted out, "Stop!" The clan of DEs turned quizzically to him. He staggered forward and hissed into Jade´s ear, "I´m not going to kill you. Not now anyway. Know why? Because I want you to live each day of your miserable life knowing that the Dark Side has the power to shatter your family. No, death would be a gift to you. Instead, mourn your mudblood mother and sister; suffer each day reliving their deaths. But watch out. Just because I let you live today, doesn´t mean I will next time." He leaned over and stroked her hair.
Then the Death Eaters left through the trees, stepping over the corpses on their way.
Jade sat in a daze when the Hit Wizards arrived to clean up the disaster scene. She didn´t notice when her father, tear-stained, dragged her to the car and drove silently home. She couldn´t understand the evening news report from Britain that said the Dark Lord had fallen at the hands of the Potter boy -- The Boy Who Lived. The wizarding world was in celebration but Jade couldn´t have cared less.
A fortnight later, Jade enrolled at the public high school and began her life as a muggle, closing off her magical past and disowning the wizarding world.
Orion left the Ministry and joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Proving to be a stellar agent, he flew through the ranks and became the director of the FBI within eight years. Shortly afterwards, he decided the Bureau needed a new department. He formed GMSS.
Gifted Muggles Secret Surveillance was the smallest and most mysterious department in the FBI. No one outside of it knew exactly what its missions were. The X-files were common knowledge next to GMSS.
Its agents were witches and wizards who preferred to live as muggles, not because they were squibs, since they were very powerful and capable magicians, but because they saw the need to protect muggles from the Dark Side. These agents, like Orion, had mostly been Ministry workers who grew disgusted with the prejudice towards muggles, even within the Ministry itself. Often, they were muggle-borns or were married to a muggle. GMSS was thus set up apart from the Ministry of Magic and solely protected muggles and prevented muggle attacks.
Jade was one of the first agents to join GMSS. And within a year of documenting the American Death Eater clans, she came across a picture of a DE with a familiar sneer and dark, challenging eyes. His name was Montague Sullivan and he was wanted for numerous muggle murders and his infamous attack at Memorial Academy. Jade now had a name to match the face she hunted.
She knew that if she found him first, she wouldn´t hand him over to the Dementors before she had had her revenge.
