It's Impossible to Hide in the Light

"Being evil was about having hate and having ambition, and meeting them in the middle to bring about a new type of power that had never yet been seen...."

~ Meeting Them in the Middle

"Dear Ginny," the man in the doorway said. "My, how you have grown."

Ginny miraculously found her way to her feet despite her trembling fear. She knew who this man was, she didn't need remembering. Everyone knew who this man was, but no one did like she did. "T-Tom," she stuttered. "My, how ugly you've gotten."

To her surprise the man smirked and stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him. Instead of falling back into darkness, Ginny and her captor were in light and she finally had a chance to look around. The room was small, nothing but walls and a floor, and the old wooden door.

"No one has called me Tom in nearly fifty years," he recalled stepping closer to her. "My, it does roll off your tongue sweetly though," Voldemort said cupping her chin in his hands.

"That's the only way I remember you," she said with as much courage as she could muster. Slowly her fear was easing, she began to realize. Perhaps it was because she saw the boy in him that she had known so well, that she had...no.

"I thought about visiting you sooner," he said. "But I knew you'd be okay on your own, you always were." He looked down at her curiously. "Time has been good to you, Ginny. My, how you have grown up."

"I wish you would stop talking to me as if I was still that little girl in the chamber," she said tearing away from his grasp.

"I don't know you any other way; not yet," he added. Ginny felt an odd feeling course through her veins; one she hadn't felt since she was dying on the floor of the chamber. All she wanted to do was hide, like she was twelve again. But she wasn't twelve anymore, she wouldn't be intimidated like she had been.

"What do you want with me?" she asked, suddenly realizing he was certainly the one that took her prisoner. "I won't give you any information."

"I don't want information, Ginny. I already have what I need."

"Then what do you want with me?" she almost yelled, her rage nearly overcoming her fear.

"You're mine," he whispered stepping close to her again. "I don't need a reason to want you." He stepped back away from her and headed again from the door. "I'll let you stay in here the rest of the night. Tomorrow, Ginny, your old life will no longer exist. Welcome to my world...again," he said snapping the door shut behind him, making Ginny jump a little. Again she was plunged into darkness.

Ginny, still shaking, found her corner again and sunk back down to the floor. She was glad to be in the darkness again. Because it's impossible to hide in the light.

Ginny closed her eyes again, the familiar drip like a soft lullaby. She didn't know what would happen tomorrow or what Voldemort wanted with her. But for now she'd enjoy today, for now she'd enjoy the memories. Because she knew that she was always easily pulled to the dark side, and she knew Tom could do it. But for a brief moment being on the dark side appeased her. After all, it's impossible to hide in the light; but in the dark...well, now she was going insane.
