Only Skin Deep

The coming weeks just flew by now that Draco was truly happy. Soon, they would all be graduating from their beloved school. All that was left was the end of the year ball.

Draco stood by the doors of the Great Hall, ushering people in. He was eager to see Emily. He was just bursting with the sheer joy that filled him.

Before he had spotted her, Pansy pulled him into a sea of Slytherins.

"Draco, I've missed you," she whined, pulling at the collar of his charcoal gray dress robes.

"Yes, well, I haven't missed you," he said, looking around for Emily.

"You're still fawning over that little pig?"

"Yes, and only I can call her that. Pet names stay between couples, do they not?" he put coolly. Draco jumped as two hands touched his neck.

"Hey handsome, want to dance?" He turned and saw Emily in the most beautiful emerald robes he had ever seen.

"Yeah," he mumbled, pulling her close with his hand on her waist. "You look amazing in green, you know."

"I thought I had better get used to it," she sighed, laying her head on his chest. A call from the Headmaster parted them.

"I'll be right back." Draco headed to the stage, and say Hermione leaving Harry and heading up too.

"I would like the Head Boy and Girl to make a few words," Dumbledore instructed. Hermione stepped forward to speak first.

"I haven't much to say, which I think is a first. But, I hope that all of you are going to be happy and successful with your lives." She turned to let Draco start.

"Well, I was going to say what she did but maybe I can top that," he said, with a glint in his eye. "Emily, will you come up here." Emily looked puzzled as she worked her way on stage. "I've always been told that love is nothing yet I have proved that wrong. I would like, in front of all of you tonight, to propose to my girlfriend, Emily." He pulled her forward so that she was even with him. "Well, will you marry me?"

Emily's mind raced. This was all so sudden. They had barely gone out for a few months and here he was proposing. Draco held a box that contained a gold ring with two small stones on top. A ruby and emerald. "I, I, Draco," she sighed. Looking into his eyes, she felt that this was meant to be. "Draco, I will."

The whole hall clapped as Draco hugged her and spun her around. Finishing it off with a nice little kiss made everyone clap just a little more. "I love you."

"I love you too," she smiled, as they both left the stage. Draco led her outside so that they could be alone.

"Sorry that I just spontaneously asked you. I had meant to wait longer, but," Draco trailed off, as he leaned in to kiss Emily. She mumbled something as they were kissing that Draco thought was that's okay, but he didn't really care. He had her, and she would always be his.

Breaking the kiss, she said, "We'd better get back before people get suspicious."

"Yeah, I guess." He followed her back in, happy as ever as she clung to his side.

"I'm glad you saw my inner beauty," she whispered.

"Of course, did you think I was shallow?" he asked jokingly. She gave a light laugh before they began to mingle more. "I'm glad that you'll be mine."

"Me too," she said, kissing him softly on the cheek.
