Where Loyalties Lie

~~~~~*~~~~~
Voldemort and Magneto walked across the Ball Room as the guests parted to make a path for them, towards where Lucius stood with his wife Narcissa. Harry could see the clearly from where he and Kurt stood. The Dark Lords face was still snake-like with those piercing deep red eyes looking around the room. He suspected that Voldemort was looking for him.
"So where are these new recruits then?" Voldemort demanded, "I am told we have one of each."
"That is true my Lord," Lucius said, bowing his head slightly. He looked toward where the pair of them were stood and raised his hand, motioning for them to come over.
Neither Harry nor Kurt did actually have a choice as Remy gently pushed them over. Harry could feel a shiver go up his spine as Voldemort looked directly into his eyes.
"Harry Potter," he grinned with his snake-like mouth.
"The one and only my Lord," Lucius told him.
"And Nightcrawler too, this is a surprise," Magneto remarked, before looking across to Lucius. "Do you know what this means?"
Lucius just shook his head to which Magneto sighed.
"The prophecy," he reminded him.
"The Gundam Prophecy?" Lucius asked before giving Harry a strange look.
"What is this prophecy that I have not heard of?" Voldemort demanded.
"It is a prophecy that you would love the power of my Lord," Lucius told him, bowing his head slightly as the guests quietly watched the conversation.
"Then why are you stood around here then, deal with it," the Dark Lord demanded.
"Yes my Lord," Lucius said, "but I must take Harry and Kurt here with me."
"Fine," Voldemort replied before being led off by Magneto to another part of the Ball Room.
Harry noticed Lucius mutter something under his breath as they left the ball, while Remy followed them. He said nothing as the walked the hallways. All four stayed silent until were outside in the manor grounds. It was not very warm as it was evening time and the sun was disappearing beyond the horizon.
"You are not truly following Voldemort are you?" Harry asked, making sure they were far ahead enough of the two mutants and that there was no one else around.
Lucius glared at him making the teen wonder if he had just said something stupid. "I no more a follower of Voldemort then you are under the Imperious Curse," he replied, "I know you are almost completely immune to it, I remember it from the graveyard. We are fortunate that Voldemort is too stupid to realise that."
Harry was surprised at the way Lucius was talking. Something strange was going on and it was to do with this 'Gundam' prophecy. Even stranger was the fact that it matched the name that he and the other four who were expelled had given themselves when they vowed to fight the Death Eaters. Strange how that had all fallen apart since they attacked him after he had found Colin on Exeter's cathedral green. Then again nothing ever really went to plan, just like the one where he pretended to be under the Imperious Curse in order to spy on them. It did work though, but that was because Lucius Malfoy of all people was seemingly helping him.
"Remy t'ink dat Lucius walk too fast," the Cajun complained once he'd caught up with them.
"Well I feel like waiting this out in the summer house," Lucius said, ignoring Remy's comment.
"And you have a lot of explaining to do," the raven-haired teen added.
"I suppose I do," Lucius replied.
Ron found lunch at Santos Rio De Brasilia to be quiet. It wasn't because of the massive size of the great hall, which was at least twice the size of Hogwarts great hall, it was that Headmaster Carlos Hernandez De Lima was the only member of staff to join them, albeit sat at the teachers table. Talk was at a complete minimum, Colin didn't want to talk to anyone and Draco was completely ignoring him.
'At least the foods good,' he silently thought to himself. He helped himself to even more mashed potato.
He couldn't tell what the Headmaster was eating, only that it was green and looked similar to seaweed. Ron was just glad that there were willing to make food that he was used to, especially has his stomach could rarely handle foreign foods. Looking at the Headmaster, he reminded him of a dark skinned Professor Dumbledore. He looked too eerily like him in fact.
The Headmaster put down his fork and looked to where they were sat. "I trust you three enjoyed your meal," he asked in English, but with a heavily Brazilian accent.
They just nodded, none of them wanted to speak. Professor Hernandez nodded, knowing that they didn't want to talk. Standing up he told them, "I remind you that the school year starts on the 1st and the rainforest is strictly off limits." He said nothing more and left the hall.
Draco too left the hall leaving Colin and Ron sat alone in the great hall.
'Wimps and posers leave the hall,' Ron thought to himself.
"I don't like it here," Colin remarked, catching Ron by surprise.
"We have no choice if we want to continue learning magic properly," Ron sighed, after a brief silence.
He wished that he could be at Hogwarts but he knew that there was no way that they ever going back there. Here there was no Hermione and no Harry, unfortunately for him there was Draco. That said, at least he was a familiar face in who knows how many students there would be milling about the school come the start of term. As he stood up from the table, Colin did the same. They walked back to their temporary bedrooms together, before going their separate ways.
The Malfoy summerhouse was found on the outer grounds, overlooking a large lake. Harry was surprised as it was almost the same size as the manor itself. Evidently the Malfoy's never did anything little. They soon settled down into the conservatory, which also had a fireplace. He sat down in one of the chairs in front of the now roaring fire, though he didn't remember anyone actually lighting it.
"I suppose I should tell you the truth from the start," Lucius sighed.
"Would help," Harry remarked, coldly.
Lucius shot him a nasty glare. "Before you ask, yes I did follow Voldemort at first," he admitted, "but in the late seventies he started to become mad and very delusional, a lot of Death Eaters became worried about that fact but ignored it, myself included. He actually ignored one very prophecy that ended up destroying him and that involved the death of your parents."
Harry shivered. Though he seemed heartless to people, Lucius knew when he shouldn't be like that to people and now was one of those times. Contrary to popular belief, he did care about other people's feelings more then anyone realised. He decided against saying anything more about the death of Harry's parents, especially as he wanted the teen to remain here.
"Well anyway, on one mission in about 1980, I ended up in Poland," he began, "it was unfortunate that I had to go there as it isn't the most wizarding friendly place. I was cold and hungry as I wandered along some unknown country road somewhere, I met a man walking the other way by the name of Erik Lehnsherr, who also calls himself Magneto and we got talking. Normally I wouldn't talk to muggles but I guess due to circumstances, I hoped he would be a wizard. After all he did look very unmuggle like. He talked as he took me into the large metallic dome, only then did I know that mutants existed and he demonstrated his power. It was like using magic without a wand, only he was limited to controlling metal. Found out our ideals had a lot in common, though his was for mutants and mine was for wizards, but we had the same enemy. Normal muggles and those that wanted to keep our kind a secret from them."
He then looked over at Remy.
"Dat went very well," the Cajun mutant replied sarcastically.
"True," Lucius sighed, " the mutant incident has actually put a few things into perspective."
"Not wrong dere mon ami," Remy sighed. He had been right there in the Sentinel disaster, so he knew how bad people were taking the emergence of mutant kind into the muggle world.
Magneto's plan had been for the X-Men to fight the Sentinel robot and thus reveal themselves to the public. What Magneto hadn't counted on was the public's reaction to it. Instead of fearing them, the public were against them, the US government reacted and enforced a mutant register. Any mutant had to be ID'd and would be kept track of. However some were deemed to dangerous and were held captive within the infamous Area 51. However a lot of mutants fled from the US to be safe from persecution. Vigilante groups appeared everywhere and lynched anyone suspected of being a mutant. Then there was the incident at the institute after Scott Summers had thwarted Mystique's efforts to destroy the manor. That incident was the reason for Kurt to leave and end up here.
"I still have yet to find out why he ended up here if he was never on Erik's side," Lucius mentioned, looking over at Kurt.
"Remy knows de answer to dat," the Cajun grinned.
"Then perhaps you should enlighten us on the subject," the wizard then suggested.
The mutant shook his head. "Non, Remy t'ink dat de bleu one say it himself," he replied, "not for Remy t'say."
Lucius then glared at Kurt, the young mutant knew he couldn't stay silent about it forever. Sooner or later the truth about the incident at the Xavier Institute would come out and it was probably best to say it now, it wasn't as if he had to tell them everything. He nervously ran a hand through his hair.
"Vell it started vhen my mother Mystique tried to make der institute self destruct, but Scott vas able to stop it," he began to explain, his tail was flicking around nervously. "I don't know vhat actually happened but I accidentally sent it off again und none of us could stop it. The institute blew up in a huge fireball..."
"Putting Pyro t'shame," Remy interrupted.
Kurt just glared at him. "They all had a go at me for it so I left, never looked back," he finished saying after the interruption.
"And how did you end up being friends with Harry then," Lucius questioned the pair.
"I found him wondering the grounds," Harry explained, "He looked lost, cold and hungry."
"And you let him in without knowing who he was?" Lucius growled.
Harry shrugged, it was either make friends with him or be friends with Crabbe and Goyle. "Well since he was in the grounds already I thought he was meant to be here, I didn't know he could teleport to get past all the traps," he protested.
"Traps?" Kurt gulped, "there vere traps out there? I could haff been killed."
"Judging by the way you were fencing before, I highly doubt any of my charms could have decapitated you," Lucius reckoned.
Kurt gulped again, this was beginning to unnerve him. "Decapitate me?" he asked, "dis place ist nuts."
"And de Institute wasn't?" Remy grinned.
Kurt rolled his eyes as he slumped down in the chair. The institute's traps were easy to blow up, as they were mechanical. These traps were magical, there was no way that he could get past them. It was fortunate that he wasn't too weak to teleport at the time or he would have climbed the fence. At the time he hadn't known why he'd gone into the manor grounds in the first place, he felt drawn to it.
"Der institutes traps vere easy to attack, you could see vhere they vere shooting you from," he protested, folding his arms.
"And charms tend to be invisible," Lucius also pointed out, "much more reliable then muggle technology."
"Ja, you can say that again," Kurt agreed with a sigh.
There was a rush of air and Pietro appeared in the conservatory.
"Father.wants.to.know.if.you.want.to.get.rid.of.moldy.voldie.yet," he said in his usual fast speak.
Harry didn't catch a word a word of what the lanky teen had just said, and by the look on Lucius' face, he didn't understand either. Evidently Remy did.
"Remy t'ink dat Voldie has outstayed his welcome," he said.
"I agree," Lucius said with a nod, "but not here, Voldemort still has much to many blind followers and I fear that getting rid of him in front of them, will cause them to do rather a lot of damage to my home and I do not wish for that to happen."
But Pietro had of course already gone. Lucius slammed the bottom of his can against the floor in frustration. Before anyone could say anything, the wizard had gotten to his feet and left the conservatory.
"Remy t'ink dis could get very interesting," the Cajun grinned as he too left the conservatory.
"I have seen enough violence to last me a lifetime," Kurt sighed before porting to the doorway.
Harry watched with interest as the two adults walked up the path towards the manor. If this Magneto was going to try and do away with Voldemort then maybe even the summerhouse wasn't going to be safe from the expected carnage. They would need to go somewhere else.
"Can ve go somevhere else?" Kurt asked.
The ground shook violently, Kurt knew who was causing that and he also knew that they really did have to get out of there.
"I think a peaceful trip to Diagon Alley would be useful right about now," Harry said.
A loud bang then echoed around them and Kurt nodded in agreement.
At that time Lucius was already running down one hallway, hoping to lessen any further damage to his home. A door opened and Cornelius Fudge stepped out in front of him.
"My, my," the Minister of Magic remarked. "Been a bit of a traitor haven't you, running around behind our Lord's back like this. Wizards like you disgust me, you are no better then muggles or the mudbloods."
The blond man scowled at that remark. "I have always been for the protection of wizarding values and a mudblood Dark Lord will not protect those," he explained.
"Our Lord will not stand for this, I will destroy you myself," Fudge told him as he looked for his wand which he was sure he had on him. In fact he had it on him because he had it in hand when he left the ballroom.
"Looking for dis?" came Remy's unmistakable Cajun voice. He wad entered the manor through a different entrance, enabling him to sneak up behind the Minister and snatch his wand without being detected.
"Give that back," Fudge demanded.
Remy shook his head.
"Avada Kedavra," Lucius called out coldly.
Green light hit the Minister in the back and he slumped to the floor, dead. Remy knelt down in front of the now lifeless body. "In de back," he remarked, "Remy t'ink dat be a bit ruthless."
Lucius said nothing more as he made his way back to the ballroom.
"Remy t'ink that he should keep dis," the Cajun said to himself as he looked at the wand and put it in his picket. He then set off to join in with the fun in the ballroom.
Lucius finally arrived at the ballroom and found the doors to be lying against the ground. He peered into the remains of the ballroom, but found no one there. He had been expecting bodies, but there were none.
"Look like Magneto did good," Remy remarked as he looked into the ballroom.
"Well as long as they're out of my hair, I don't care what happens," Lucius said as he walked off. With the damage to the ballroom, he had a few things to sort out.
"Remy wishes dat he was dere t'join in," the Cajun shrugged.
By the time Harry and Kurt had arrived in Diagon Alley, via the Knight Bus and The Leaky Cauldron, murmurings of the Minister of Magic's death was circulating. No one knew if the rumours were true or not, only the Ministry knew for sure and they were staying very tight lipped about it. Kurt actually hated Diagon Alley, even with his inducer on he still felt like an out of place freak. Harry didn't notice it, but they passed a man Kurt remembered from the bookshop. He was the one who had demanded that Harry didn't stay with Lucius. There was also a familiar looking man with him, but he thought nothing of it. Looking over at Harry, he saw that the raven-haired teen was looking at the Quidditch stuff again.
"Elf!" a voice roared from behind him.
Only a few people took any notice of the shouting as Kurt cringed. 'Verdammt!' he thought as he realised that they had found him. Harry looked around and saw Remus.
"So this is where you got elf," Logan remarked.
"I'm not going back," Kurt growled.
"No ones making ya bub," he assured him.
"Ja, right," Kurt scowled, "you are here for one thing und that ist to take me back to vere I no longer vant to be."
Logan shook is head, he already knew that it was going to be tough. Still he knew that eventually he would come around, it just took a bit of talking to. He had promised Charles Xavier that it would not come down to violence under any circumstance.
Harry put his hand on Kurt's shoulder, "Let's go," he said.
Kurt nodded. BAMF! And they were gone.
"Well that went smoothly," Logan remarked.
Remus sighed, he didn't like seeing Harry this way and with Sirius still hiding out in Grimmauld Place, things weren't really looking good. He was interested in the rumours of Fudge's apparent death though, if true he hoped that someone decent would get the job for a change. Maybe they would offer it to Dumbledore again, but if he accepted who would take over at Hogwarts?
"Come on, nothing we can do here now," Logan mentioned. "I think we are gonna need a long talk with Chuck, best if he comes out here."
Remus just nodded. Mutants getting involved in something that was originally a wizarding problem again wasn't really a very good sign.
Kurt had ported Harry and himself to Leaky Cauldron. Not many of the few customers in there really took any notice. Those that did already knew that sometimes a mutant muggle would wonder through to go into Diagon Alley, it had always been allowed since mutants had helped in the first battle against Voldemort. They walked out the door and into muggle London.
"Remy knew he'd find you here," came the Cajuns voice.
Both boys sighed, apparently neither the wizarding nor the mutant worlds were going to let them get away very easily. It would seem that if they wanted to get away it would take a late night escape whilst people slept.
12 Grimmauld Place,
"You did WHAT!!" a voice yelled.
"I sent them to Brazil," a reply came.
