Grim & Old

~~~~~*~~~~~
Sirius hated being at 12 Grimmauld Place. He especially hated the resident house-elf, Kreacher. Not understanding why Remus and told to take them to his former childhood home, the Azkaban escapee had reluctantly brought the remaining Gundam Wizards plus Dennis and Hermione there. Blaise was of course absent as he had gone off on his own to who knows where, Sirius found himself kind of glad about that as there was something about the boy that he just didn't like.
"A word of warning..." he began, only to be interrupted by Dennis.
"What's behind this curtain," he asked pulling at it.
"NO! Don't open that curtain," Sirius yelled.
But it was too late, the curtain fell to the ground revealing a portrait of his mother. To Sirius' relief she appeared to be sleeping. Now if she would stay asleep as he put the curtain back up then...
"Mudbloods!" the portrait then shrieked.
Evidently she hadn't been asleep.
"Hairy mudblood bastards!" she continued to shriek.
"Now you've done it Dennis," Sirius groaned, "there is a reason that curtains are closed. In this case to keep my mothers portrait quiet."
"Filth," the portrait yelled again, "blood traitor, you are no son of mine."
Sirius grimaced at that last remark. "That's it," he growled, "you lot go to the living room, I'll deal with all this."
Even from the living room they could hear the portrait cursing. Ron had never known a portrait to be so loud and vulgar. When Sirius returned still with the sound of his mother shrieking in the background, Ron thought he had given up on trying to shut her up.
"It'll take awhile before she quiets down again," Sirius sighed as he slumped into a very dusty armchair. "Nobody must open the curtain and you all must be very quiet when walking through the hallway. If you must talk to someone out there do it in a very quiet whisper."
"Can't you take it down?" Hermione asked.
Sirius shook his head. "Nope, my mother appears to have used an unbreakable charm on her portrait so I can't take it down," he explained, "There is a way to get rid of it though, but it means burning the place down and us finding a new place to stay. Even then I doubt it will actually be destroyed."
As much as he liked the idea of staying somewhere else, both Remus and Dumbledore had told him that he had to stay at Grimmauld Place and not leave under any circumstances. He hated his childhood home as it brought back to many bad memories, especially the arguments that led to his running away. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Colin twitch.
"So what are we supposed to do here?" Ron asked, glumly. He found the place to be rather depressing, it was too dark in there.
"Study for school of course," Hermione told him as she placed a book on her lap and opened it.
"Oh but that's alright for you isn't it," Ron yelled before standing up, "you weren't expelled, you weren't double-crossed by Dumbledore."
"Ron he did not double-cross you, he had no choice," Hermione said, standing up for Professor Dumbledore.
Ron just shook his head and walked off, while Hermione just shook her head. She knew he was going through a lot, especially with his parents in Azkaban, so his temper at the moment was understandable. That didn't take into account that he had fallen out with Percy, that the twins were staying with Lee Jordan and he hadn't seen them in ages, nor did he know how his sister Ginny was doing up at Hogwarts. The young redhead also hadn't liked what they had told him about the encounter with Harry in Diagon Alley.
"You have to give him some time to himself," Sirius warned her.
Hermione nodded in agreement. "Isn't there another school they could go to?" she then asked, setting down her books on the coffee table in front of her.
"It would be very hard for them to get into another school, not with the record they have now," he told her with a slow shake of his head, "Not unless there was a change within the leadership of our ministry."
"Like that'll happen," Draco remarked.
"It will happen Draco," Sirius disagreed.
Seeing the possibility of a damaging argument, Hermione quickly changed the subject. "So what happened to Blaise?" she asked Sirius.
"I don't know," he replied while still glaring at Draco. "He just took off and no one has seen him since."
"And that werewolf demanded that I stay with you lot while Blaise can go where he wants," Draco growled. He did the same as Ron had and left the room.
Blaise had ventured quite far from the others, to Italy in fact. With some muggle money he had bought himself a cheap ticket to go back to the country his father came from. Having left his school here, his father had gone to Britain, become a Death Eater and met his mother there, hence the reason for his dual nationality and his Italian surname.
The Italian countryside was peaceful. There were only birds around most importantly there wasn't any people about, muggle or wizard. Just peaceful bliss to help clear his mind before attempting to enroll in Verruche Maiale School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. He expected it would be hard to considering his expulsion, but since he was a Zabini, maybe, just maybe they'll enroll him. The school was heavily anti-Death Eater and maybe he could use that to his advantage. He hadn't told the others, he had wanted to do it alone, as he was a solitary person who preferred to do things on his own.
"So you have returned then Blaise," came a voice. It sound as it had come from beside the waterfall.
"Wufei," he smirked when he saw the dark haired boy emerge from the waterfall.
"Come to cleanse the mind of weak thoughts," the boy asked.
"Yes," Blaise replied.
"Then follow me," Wufei told him.
In the Malfoy household, Harry had found that breakfast was the only time that they didn't all eat at the same time. Lucius was always up at 6am, Narcissa didn't awake until usually gone 10am. It was almost 9am when he and Kurt finished their breakfast. Once again Harry was surprised at how many pancakes the German teen had been able to eat and still not look full. He knew that even Ron couldn't have eaten that much.
As a house-elf wandered in and took away the plates, Harry asked, "How can you eat that much and not look like Dudley."
Kurt just shrugged. "My metabolism ist good because I am a blue fuzzy elf," he replied.
Harry laughed as he stood up from the table, he put his arms behind his back and stretched. The night had been rough as he was still uncomfortable in the bed, even though it was soft and had silk. He just couldn't sleep in Malfoy Manor, it just felt way to strange considering the notoriety of the Malfoy's.
"You look vorried," Kurt commented as he too moved away from the table.
"O.W.L.s year," he explained with a sigh, he wasn't ready for it after everything that had happened to him over the summer.
"This Hogvorts sounds so much better then der school I vent to," Kurt commented.
But before either could say anymore, the door to the dining opened and Lucius came marching in. There was an air of displeasure as he marched across the room holding a copy of the Daily Prophet in his hand. He threw it down on the table in front of them before turning to Kurt. "Explain," he demanded.
Kurt nervously looked down at the Daily Prophet before picking it up. The first thing he saw was a headline, 'Mutated Muggles'. His heart skipped a beat as he looked down at the various moving pictures. They were in fact videos captured by a muggle TV camera, it was the same things he had seen on the TV's in the shop window the night before. One picture was of a girl walking through a car, or rather phasing through it, as Kurt knew it as. Another was of two boys on a lamppost, just before a blast shot at them. One jumped awhile while the other, who had been hanging upside down, ported away. That one was him. If it weren't for the blue fur covering his face he would have visibly gone pale.
"Well what do you have to say for yourself," Lucius demanded.
Kurt said nothing. That didn't go down to well with Lucius.
"So you really are a muggle freak then?" he asked, glaring at him.
"Ich bin nicht Monstrosität!" Kurt yelled back at him.
Lucius drew his wand, "We have ways of dealing with filthy muggles, you are not a blue elf," he sternly told him, "I have talked to the blue elf's and none of them have heard of you. Kurt Wagner is not an elven name and you are not an elf. You are just one of those filthy mutated muggles who just happens to look like one."
He then took a couple of steps towards him, he saw no escape for him. His wand held outstretched he prepared to cast a curse.
"Nächste Mal anshen die Bilder richtig," Kurt said almost grinning.
BAMF!
In a puff of smoke that smelled like brimstone, he was gone leaving Lucius bewildered. He had not expected that and as his German was somewhat limited so he didn't understand some of what Kurt said. He screwed his face up in disgust at the smell he had left behind before saying, "You brought mutated filth into the house."
Harry crossed him arms, "Well he's been useful," he protested, "and he's a better friend then Crabbe and Goyle are as he has more brains then the pair of them put together."
Lucius stood stiffly as he glared down at the young teen. "He is a muggle and a mutated one at that, he is pure filth," he replied.
Harry growled quietly, he didn't like where this was going. He needed Kurt in order to keep contact with the others. At all costs he would have to get Lucius to allow Kurt to stay here. "I need him in my plans, he goes I go," he growled.
"Fine," Lucius scowled and turned around to leave the room.
Harry was surprised at how easily he had caved in, he'd been expecting to argue with him for a long time before Lucius would hopefully have given in. maybe there was more to it, it did seem that Lucius was eager to keep him around. Evidently to keep him here, meant having to give in and let Kurt stay.
"Oh and one last thing," Lucius began, "make sure he looks like a wizard before Bella and Raven come. Better lend him your spare wand and remember, he attends Durmstrang, I do not wish for them to know that he is not a pureblood, let alone one of those filthy mutated muggles."
Then he was gone and Harry was alone. He now had to go and find where Kurt had teleported.
~~~~~*~~~~~

Draco found himself shudder, it wasn't due to cold it was due to another reason, one that he had never expected.

"What's wrong?" Sirius asked when he saw him shudder.

Draco eyed him suspiciously, he stilled didn't like the idea of being cooped up in a dank old place with Gryffindors and a convicted mass murderer, though the others claimed he was innocent. Before running away from Malfoy Manor, the young ex-Slytherin had never heard anything about Peter Pettigrew being still alive and working for Voldemort. "Something I didn't think was possible," he replied.

"And what's that?" Sirius then questioned him.

"My father just backed down to Potter," he replied.

Sirius was surprised, "You can sense that?" he asked.

Draco nodded, "I can sense things sometimes, one of the side effects of all those curses I had thrown on my on the train," he said glaring at Hermione.

"You brought that upon yourself for acting like a spoiled brat," she told him.

"I am not a spoiled brat," he protested, "if I were, I'd have stayed at Malfoy Manor."

"Right," Hermione said rolling her eyes.

"I hate you," Draco then told her and once again stormed out the room.

"Quite a temper on that one," Sirius smirked.

Ron came running into the room waving a copy of the Daily Prophet in his hand. "Have you seen this?" he asked, "muggles are mutating."

"What?" Sirius asked.

"I saw this on the news before going to Diagon Alley," Hermione said, taking the Daily Prophet from Ron, "They can't have only just known about this can they? I mean it happened just after Ron and the others were expelled."

Sirius shook his head in disagreement, "Well you know what the Ministry are like at the moment," he explained, "No doubt they tried to hide it for as long as they could, but there are a lot of wizards in touch with the muggle world so they couldn't hide it for long. " he then looked at the pictures the Daily Prophet showed, "And with pictures like that, trying to cover it up would be fruitless," he then added.

"Do you think muggles could ever find out about us wizards in the same way?" Ron asked.

"I don't think so Ron," Hermione assured him, "we have a lot of charms that can stop them from finding out about us, not to mention memory charms to make them forget. Right Sirius?"

"Right," he replied almost blankly. It did leave him wondering if memory and muggle repulsion charms were in fact enough to keep the wizarding world a secret from the muggles. Somehow he suspected that mutant muggles had hoped for the same and failed. Maybe over the centuries the wizarding world could have become complacent, after all muggle technology was highly advanced these days. Living with Steve and his family along with Remus had allowed him to notice just how much that had been.

"I guess being at Hogwarts, you won't hear any more of this," Ron grumble as he slumped into on of the many dusty armchairs in the room.

Noticing the dust, Sirius asked, "Has anyone seen that useless lump Kreacher?"

"Last time I saw him, he was pacing around upstairs mumbling to himself," Ron replied.

"Poor Kreacher," Hermione remarked, "House-elves shouldn't be treated like lumps, they should be treated like equals."

Ron groaned, "Not SPEW again I thought you out grew that," he remarked.

"I'm not going to stop doing it as long as there are house-elves out there being treated like slaves," she pouted.

Sirius sighed, "If you are going to do that, just leave Kreacher out of it," he asked her, "he knows too much about where we're hiding out and I don't want that falling into the wrong hands."

"So what do we do with him then?" Hermione demanded, "we can't just leave him here and treat him like a prisoner."

Sirius rubbed the front of his head, he could tell that this SPEW stuff of Hermione's was going to give him a headache sooner or late. Though it was fortunate for his health and safety that she would soon be leaving for Hogwarts. The only thing that worried him between now and then was if Hermione tried to trick him into setting Kreacher free.

'You're getting paranoid in your old age Sirius,' he told himself.

~~~~~*~~~~~
"I thought I'd find you in here," Harry commented as he walked into the guestroom that had been set-aside for Kurt.
"How long has he given me to get out?" the young mutant asked with a sigh.
"He caved in, you can stay," Harry beamed at him.
Kurt's pale yellow eyes lit up, "Really? Awesome," he smiled.
"But because he has two people coming over, he wants you to pretend to be a pure-blooded wizard," Harry explained.
Kurt sighed and fell down against the bed. "Totally doesn't like der fuzzy dude," he groaned.
Harry smirked, "Mr Malfoy doesn't 'dig' anyone who isn't Voldie," he assured him, "he only keeps me around because he wants something from he and if he'd kicked you out I would have gone with you."
"Danke," the mutant said with a half smile.
Harry walked over and sat down next to him. "Here take this," he said passing him his spare wand. "Now we just have to get you the robes and you'll fit in just fine,"
Kurt sat up again and looked at the wand that was now place his hand. It was strange because up until meeting Harry, he had always thought that wizards and witches were just in stories and weren't real. Then again everyone used to think the same about mutants until Magneto pulled his little stunt.
By the time he came out of thought, Harry had gone. Hanging on the back of the door was a wizards robe. It looked brand new and was made of a fine silk. Kurt wondered how long he had been in deep thought, as he would have noticed Harry leaving and putting the robe on the back of the door. Judging by his watch it was nearly 10am, so it can't have been that long.
"If I had a normal life I'd cheerfully go mad and fall over now," he sighed to himself.
He had never been normal, he had been blue and furry from birth. Not to mention the tail on him, the two fingers and a thumb on each hand. Then there were his feet, only two toes and legs almost like a cats. What made him look elven was his pointed Spock like ears. He was often referred to as an elf, but despite his appearance and the often assumption that he was a demon he was human. He didn't mind being called an elf but he hated being called a demon.
Within minutes he was dressed in the wizards robes. They felt strangely different from the school robes he had previously worn to Diagon Alley. These felt like his, they didn't feel borrowed. He felt like he was a part of the wizarding world even though he didn't really belong there. He looked at himself if the mirror and found he did look somewhat like a demon in the wizard robes with his blue furry face and pointed ears.
Nightcrawler. Beware the beast in black. Nightcrawler. You know he's coming back. Nightcrawler," he began singing to himself.
"Hmm, Judas Priest's Night Crawler if I'm not mistaken," the mirror commented.
Kurt jumped back in surprise. "Der mirror talked!" he gasped, trying to get his voice back.
The mirror laughed. "Of course I talk Kurt Wagner," it replied.
"And you happen to know mein name," he said with surprise.
"You don't know much about the wizarding world now do you," the mirror asked.
Kurt shook his head and glumly looked at the floor.
"Figures why that Potter boy left me with you then," the mirror remarked, "not to worry darling, y the time I'm finished with you there will be no wizard that acts more pureblood then thou are."
The young mutant grimaced, somehow he knew he was going to end up hating every moment with this mirror.
"Pure in body, pure in mind Blaise," Wufei said.
Blaise said nothing. He sat on the grass, legs crossed, eyes closed.
"Clear your mind of weak thoughts, cleanse your soul of filth," the Chinese boy told him.
Blaise had been in the same position for the last two hours. He knew his body and mind could never be too cleansed and he wanted it to be as cleansed as possible. A goal that could at times be very difficult. He however knew that he could be cleansed as he had been cleansing himself everyday since running away from home.
Wufei stood up and began to walk around him. He said nothing for what seemed like ages before he knelt down in front of Blaise. "You are clean," he told him.
Blaise opened his eyes and looked over at Wufei.
"I guess I will see you at Verruche Maiale then," the Chinese boy then mentioned.
"I hope," he replied, nodding his head slowly. It would all depend on the school board though.
~~~~~*~~~~~

The sound of clashing swords filled the air of the fencing room. Harry and Kurt had groan tired of waiting for Lucius' guests and so he allowed them to take some time in the fencing room. The swords clashed as the pair shuffled around the room. The young mutant had the easier time because of his agile body and Harry's lack of practice with swords. He hadn't really had any practice since his second year when Fawkes had brought his Godric's sword. Kurt on the other hand had even less experience with a sword, but he had taken to wielding one like a duck to water.

"Prefer to be defeated," Kurt called out in his distinctly German accent, as he made his final move.

Harry's sword flew out of his hand and clattered against the floor. Kurt poked Harry's chest with his sword and said, "Consider yourself defeated."

They were both surprised by the sound of clapping. Looking toward the doorway, they found Lucius standing there with two women. Both were tall, one dark-haired the other re-haired. Lucius then walked over to them, he took the sword from Kurt and picked up the other from the floor.

"Now I would like to introduce you to my sister in-law Bellatrix Lestrange and her friend Raven Darkholme, who was the brains behind last nights mass escape from Azkaban," he announced.

Kurt looked over at the red-haired women, she looked back at him and a smile crept over her face.

"Hello Kurt," she said.

"Mutter!" he gasped.

Lucius stared in disbelief at Kurt.
