A Harry/Tonks Story

By Crazy Writer Girl

Chapter One: Everything and Nothing, All At Once

Do you have the time
To listen to me whine?
About everything and nothing all at once
I am one of those melodramatic fools
Neurotic to the core

Green Day, Basket Case

Nymphadora Tonks was many things. She was the youngest Auror in her department of the magical law enforcement squad by several years, she was a metamorphmagus, and she was a member of the Order of the Phoenix. She had a wicked sense of humour, she was a complete and utter chocoholic and she would do anything or go anywhere for her friends. The one thing she wasn't however was patient.

The past several weeks had been very hard for her as a result of that... She really didn't know how parents dealt with moody teenagers' day in day out for the seven years that made up the teenage years not to mention the other eleven years they were completely responsible for them. She had been in charge of one particularly Moody teenager for two weeks already she felt ready to scream or shout or go insane or something...

One thing was for sure, Molly Weasley was a saint. And Tonks planned to tell her that when she next saw her. Two weeks as a surrogate parent for one teenager had convinced Tonks that she never wanted children of her own and there was Molly who had seven children of her own either in or just out of their teens and she still found enough time, patience and love to take care of two of her youngest son Ron's best friends too as though they were her own flesh and blood. Hermione Granger and Tonks' current responsibility Harry Potter were certainly extremely lucky to be considered as good as members of the Weasley family - she just hoped they realised that.

Especially Harry, he had a very unusual upbringing and his whole life had been a battle against evil - meaning that he was more than a handful to deal with because of everything he had been through and how he reacted to it. The past two weeks had done nothing if they hadn't taught her that she thought as she sat at the kitchen table and reflected on the events which had caused her to end up in her current situation trying to take care of a very depressed young boy who was only five years younger than she herself was.

She had been told by her supervisors at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement section of the Ministry of Magic that she hadn't used up all of her leave entitlement for the year and that if she didn't use it to take a holiday before September 1st it would be forfeit So she had taken that holiday except it wasn't really a holiday.

She had been given four weeks off of work on Medical leave after the incident in the Department of Mysteries and she also had four weeks of annual leave to use up. She had chosen to use those eight weeks of leave working for the Order of the Phoenix and that was how she found herself living in the Orders headquarters at number 12 Grimmauld Place.

The Order of the Phoenix was an organisation set up by Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, to fight against Voldemort, the dark wizard who was currently trying to take over both the wizarding and Muggle (non-magical) world's, who had just regained his body after fifteen years. Up until very recently the British Ministry of Magic had denied that Voldemort had been reborn and so the Order had been top-secret

Number 12 Grimmauld Place was not a particularly nice house. It had belonged to her mother's cousin Sirius, the last of the Black family. Who had recently been killed at the department of mysteries at the ministry of magic saving his Godson Harry who had been lured there to face the death eaters and Lord Voldemort and fallen into a trap.

Harry and his five friends who had accompanied him to try to rescue Sirius who they believed to be trapped there had very nearly been killed, and all but Harry and Luna had been injured. Luckily though, Sirius, Tonks and the other members of the Order of the Phoenix had turned up just in time to rescue the six teens. Sirius had been killed as a result by his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange who was one n of he-who-must-not-be-named's inner circle of death eaters

For that very reason she had found the last several weeks very trying. Her other housemate and current charge, Harry Potter, was currently very depressed over the death of his Godfather Sirius Black which he considered to be his fault. Add the fact that Sirius was the closest thing Harry had ever had to a parental figure as his parents had died when he was a little over a year old and he had grown up with relatives who despised him and who would rather see him dead than treat him well, and that gave Tonks a very depressed and self destructive young boy to live with and take care of.

And Harry was not the type to do things half heartedly (other than his school work, of course but he was a typical fifteen year old boy so who could blame him in that respect?) so of course had had to self destruct in a major way whenever he tried to do something to make him feel better.

Whereas Harry's close friends Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger as well as Ron's younger sister Ginny were also grieving for Sirius but were content to simply be introspective, and quiet and deal with their grief in any number of the healthy ways available to them, Harry had to resort to the unhealthy ways which were available to him and which made it all the more easier for him to forget about the pain he felt for a little bit longer than the more conventional but safer methods his friends and the members of the order of the phoenix who had been friends with Sirius used to deal with their grief.

Unbeknownst to most of their friends and family and the other members of the order, Tonks and Harry had been the sole occupiers of Number 12 Grimmauld Place, London, and the Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix for two weeks. Harry had spent the shortest amount of time had he ever spent with his relatives this year - only one short week.
