The Letter

I see Mum looking at me again. She's been doing it since my tenth birthday, all because I didn't invite any kids from school. I don't understand why she is so worried it's not my fault all the kids at school are immature and boring. The characters in my books are so much more interesting. Speaking of interesting is that an owl flying towards are window. Mum shrieks and drops the cup she was holding. The owl has a letter attached to its feet addressed to me in green ink. Oddly enough I not afraid of it, I reach over and untie the envelope ripping the envelope in a very Dad like way.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Dear Ms. Granger,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You will find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. A Hogwarts teacher will be by to pick you up for school shopping on August 19, around 9 a.m.

Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.

Yours Sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Minerva McGonagall,

Deputy Headmistress

Mom who read it over my shoulder laughed. "People these days," she said chuckling.

"I don't think this is a joke Mum," I said quietly. "Remember all the weird things that happen when I'm around."

"Impossible," said Mum scoffing. "Those were just coincidences. You've been reading too many fantasy novels. " I quietly wrote a reply to offer, and tied it on the owl when Mum wasn't looking. Sometimes you've got to take matters into your own hands.

On August 19 much to my parent's surprise Minerva McGonagall arrived at our house. She and my parents had a long talk in the living room, and afterwards they were quite convinced that magic was real. I was grounded until for a week because I went behind their back but it was worth it.

I am now in love Diagon Alley there are so many amazing things to see. Professor McGonagall and had a terrible time trying to pull our selves out of Flourish and Bouts. I now have a complete set of Professor McGonagall favorite series; A Hogwarts a History. After we finished shopping we got ice cream, and then walked around talking about absolutely nothing and yet everything. We have agreed to meet every Friday night during school to chat.

September 1 came all too soon. As I was boarding the train I saw two redhead twins. One of them in particular interested me. He was much more energetic than his other twin. He was obviously the more mischievous one while his other twin was a definite ladies man. I was drawn to him like a moth to a flame.

"Hi, my name's Hermione Granger would you mind helping me with my trunk," I asked politely to them.

The twin I liked best grinned and said, "my names George and my fabulous other side is called Fred, we'd absolutely love to help you." Just then another redhead came up to us.

"I wouldn't let them if I were you," he said snootily.

"Aw, Percy that wounded us, don't you trust us," said Fred grinning like a maniac.

"These two are some of the worst pranksters ever," Percy informed me. He then grabbed my arm, and proceeded to drag me away.

"Peachy meeting you Hermione, hope you're in Gryffindor," shouted Fred and George.

My first year passed quickly ending in a near death experience. For the first time in my life I fit in, I had friends. I realized that that was something I didn't want to let go of. Even If Ron was a complete git all the time, and Harry would always do foolhardy heroic things. Even Draco Malfoy couldn't take away the joy Hogwarts brought me.

My second year was a lot like the first. I can never forget those great yellow eyes of the Basilisk. It warmed my heart when I was hugged by the entire Gryffindor table (including George). Yes my crush on George continued, but it wasn't till my third year that I really got to know him.
