Before the Ball...

    That night, around 6:30, Kayla and Alex were finishing getting ready. Kayla had robes on of red that she and Alex had bewitched to make it sparkle. She had loosely curled her hair so it fell loosely on her shoulders and pulled it back with butterflies that actually moved.

    Alex was wearing robes of gold that her and Kayla bewitched to make it look like it was sparkling. She had straightened her hair out and put a charm on the door of the Common Room so when someone walked over the threshold, little sparkles would come down on them, making them think that they were in one of those little muggle snow globes. "Does this look alright?" Alex asked no one in particular. Lavender came over to examine the mascara that Alex had just put on.

    "Yes! Can I borrow some?" Lavender said as Alex handed her the little bottle. Lavender got up and started walking towards Parvati.

    "How does this look?" Kayla asked Parvati. She went over to Parvati and asked about her eyeliner. "Does it look okay? Did I put too much?"

    "No…you look fine!" Parvati reassured her.

    Kayla went over to Alex (who was putting on the final touches) and asked, "Are you nervous?"

    "Yes!" Alex said. She was putting on lipstick and her hand was shaking slightly.

    "Me too. Even thought I am going out with Harry…do you think we over did it? I mean, with the door that we charmed?" Kayla asked Alex as she put the lipstick down.

    "Maybe…" Alex said. "Should I go down and un-charm it?"

    "Too late, remember? It works till midnight," Kayla laughed. "Why are we worrying? It's only a dance!"

    "Do I look okay?" Alex said standing up, her gold robes reaching the floor, giving the impression that she was gliding instead of walking.

    "Yeah, what about me?" Kayla asked as she stood up. With her red robes and charmed butterflies that actually moved, it gave the impression that she was some magical princess from a far off land.

    "You both look fine!" Parvati and Lavender went over to them. "Who are you going with?" they asked them.

    "Oliver," Alex replied.

    "Harry," Kayla replied. She couldn't help smiling. "What about you two?"

    "Seamus," Parvati said.

    "Dean," Lavender said to them. "Hey Hermione," Lavender said. Hermione had just come over to them, dressed in robes of periwinkle. "Who are you going with?"

    "Ron," Hermione said blushing.

    "Ooooh! Your boyfriend?" Parvati giggled.

    They looked up at the clock. 6:45. Fifteen more minutes.

Meanwhile, in the boys' dormitories. Harry was just waking up from his nap. "Hey," he said sleepily to Ron.

"Hi. Bout time you woke up," Ron said jokingly. Harry grabbed his dress-robes and went to change. At 6:50 he was done changing and Oliver came running into his dormitory with robes of deep red. (Hmmm…why do you think he picked red? LoL!) "Harry!" he said.

"Oliver!" Harry replied.

"Should we go?" Oliver asked him.

"It's 6:50. We got ten whole minutes," Harry said. "Hey, did you get something for them?"

"Yeah, I transfigured my old quill into a red rose," Oliver said, showing them his perfectly transfigured rose.

"Hey, can you transfigure one for me?" Harry asked, handing him an old quill.

Oliver muttered some sort of charm and handed a perfectly transfigured white rose to Harry. "Who are you going with, Ron?"

"Hermione," Ron said without missing a beat.

"Yeah…" Harry said to Oliver as they exited the dormitory and went into the Common Room. 'Five more minutes,' Harry thought.

At exactly 7:00, it looked as if the whole house was there, even though the Welcome Back Ball was only for third years and up. "Come on, let's go!" Kayla said excitedly to Alex who was still looking extremely nervous.

Hermione, Parvati, Lavender, Kayla, and Alex walked through the door one at a time, the sparkles coming down on each one of them. "Okay, here I go!" Parvati said as she looked at Alex and walked through the threshold. She looked around for Harry who was by Oliver. She walked over there and said. "Hey!"

"Hey, you look great," Harry said, handing her the white rose.

Kayla squealed with delight as took the rose in hand and they exited the Common Room.

Alex took one last, deep breath and walked through the door. She could see the sparkles around her. She looked around for Oliver. When she saw him, he looked more nervous then she was. Alex breathed a sigh of relief as she went over to Oliver who presented her with a beautiful red rose. "Thank you!" She breathed as she looked up into his eyes.

"Shall we go?" Oliver said, extending his arm for her to take.

"Yes," Alex said, taking his arm and exiting the Common Room.

They took their usual route to the Great Hall where all of the students were outside, anticipating the dance. Professor McGonagall came out and said, "Welcome back to Hogwarts. This is our annual Welcome Back Ball. Enjoy," she said as she opened the doors to the Great Hall.
