The Best Year…01

"I can't believe that we are finally going to Hogwarts!" Kayla O'Connor said to her friend Alexandria Savage. "It's better than that American Magic School we went to!"

"Yeah…I'm so happy we got out of there!" Alexandria smiled back. "So, are we going to get to start in our third year? I mean, we were about to go into our third year back at our other school."

"I suppose we will…" replied Kayla as they entered King's Cross Station with their parents.

"Wow! Good old Hogwarts!" David O'Connor said as he got trolleys to put the girls' luggage on.

"Yea…lots of memories there," Samuel Savage said as he heaved Alexandria's trunk onto the trolley.

"You can say that again…" Susan O'Connor said.

"Yeah…" Rose Savage said as they got to Platforms nine and ten.

"Platform 9 ¾?" Alexandria asked as she read her ticket.

"Yes, now, this is the tricky part. You run straight at the wall and you'll go through it," her father explained.

"But, the thing is you have to do it so no muggles see you," Kayla's father finished.

"Yeah, so we are just supposed to disappear into a wall and not let any muggles see us? Ohhh right…" Kayla said jokingly.

    "Exactly," her dad said.

"So, just run straight at the wall?" Alexandria asked. "Okay! Come on Kayla!"

"K…" Kayla said as she pushed her trolley up beside Alexandria's.

Everyone said their goodbyes and all the parents watched the kids slip through the wall into Platform 9 ¾. "Wow! We made it!" Kayla sighed as she looked up at the scarlet steam engine.

"Yeah…" Alexandria agreed as they went to find an empty compartment. "I wonder if they have a Quidditch Team…?"

"Quidditch?" an older boy asked with brown hair. He looked about seventeen. He was accompanied by a younger boy with black hair, glasses and a lightning bolt scar on his forehead. He looked to be about their age "Did you say Quidditch?"

"Wow…you're Harry Potter!" Kayla breathed as she pointed to Harry's scar.

    "Uhhh…yeah…" Harry said blushing.

Alexandria wasn't paying attention. She had other things to think about…like the tall, seventeen year old boy with the Scottish accent she was talking to. "Yes…why?"

"Well, I'm the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain and I can always use some people on the reserve team. Do you play?"

"Yea…I played at my other school. And, what's Gryffindor? I'm new here," she explained trying not to sound stupid in front of the cute boy.

He launched into an explanation about the four houses and their traits and how each house has their own Quidditch Team. "Wow, I hope I'm in Gryffindor! Don't you Kayla?" she asked nudging Kayla who was in a very deep conversation with Harry.

"Oh…uhhh…yeah," she said. Obviously she didn't know what they were talking about.

"Well, let's go find a compartment," Kayla said to them as they made their way onto the scarlet steam engine.

"By the way, I am Oliver Wood," Oliver said sticking out his hand for Kayla and Alexandria to shake.

    "Hi, I'm Alexandria," she said.

    "I'm Kayla," she said smiling.

They talked until the old witch with the lunch cart came asking, "Anything off the trolley dears?"

They bought most of them. Just when they had bought them, Hermione and Ron came into the compartment. "Harry! Where have you been? We were looking everywhere for you! We thought that the muggles didn't let you come back!" Hermione said as she went up to Harry and hugged him.

Ron, who hadn't said anything, dived into the sweets and started stuffing his mouth.

"Oh-err…He-hello," Ron said as he spotted the two new girls.

They laughed, "Hi," they said as Ron rubbed some stuff off of his mouth and shook the girl's hands.

After they had gotten done eating, Kayla and Alexandria pulled out little bags and opened up a compact with a mirror. They started to re-apply makeup and all the boys were looking at them. Kayla noticed this and said, "What?"

"What is that stuff you're putting on?" Ron asked pointing to the mascara.

"Mascara," Kayla said as she started applying it to her eyelashes.

"What does it do?" Harry asked.

"Makes your eyelashes pretty," Alexandria explained as she pulled her lip gloss out of her bag and started putting it on. "Do you have any red sparkles?"

"Yeah," Kayla said as she started rummaging through her bag and pulled out a little bottle containing red sparkles. "Do you want some?" she asked.

    "No!" All the boys replied.

Alexandria rolled her eyes while Kayla said, "Not you!" She said referring to the boys. "I was talking to Hermione," she said as Hermione put her finger in the little bottle and started putting it on her eyelids.

"Now all I need are some gold ones and I'd be set to go," she said as she handed the bottle back to Jessica.

"I have some, if you want," she said as she started rummaging again through her bag.

"I have them!" Alexandria said as she handed Hermione the bottle.

"Why do you have my sparkles?" Kayla asked.

"I was using them last night over at your house," Alexandria explained. "And SOMEHOW they found their way into my bag," Alexandria smiled sweetly and innocently.

'Wow, she has a great smile,' Oliver thought as his knees went weak. 'What the hell is this? My knees are weak! It's like I got hit with a bludger…' Oliver thought as he started rubbing his knees.

Kayla pulled out her wand and put it between Alexandria's eyes. Alexandria looked scared while it looked as if Kayla was trying not to laugh. She wasn't too successful. She started laughing very hard and soon was rolling on the floor laughing.

'Wow, she has a good laugh,' Harry thought just as his stomach started doing something weird. 'I think I had too many pumpkin pasties,' Harry thought as he started rubbing his stomach. 'No…oh God! Am I falling for Kayla?'

"So, are you in first year?" Ron asked. "I've never seen you around Hogwarts."

"No, actually, we are third years. We transferred from a school in America when our parents moved here," Alexandria explained.

~*!*!*At the Sorting Ceremony…*!*!*~

Dumbledore stood up and announced that we had 2 new exchange students that would be going into their third year. They would be sorted into their houses with the first years.

McGonagall came out and called out a bunch of first years when she said, "O'Connor, Kayla!"

Kayla walked up to the sorting hat. It said, "Whew! I'm stumped! Just go wherever you want."

Kayla went down from the stool and she heard distinct mutters from the sorting hat, "How could this have happened? She's loyal, brave, evil, and smart…wow…" she heard no more because she went straight for the Gryffindor Table and sat down by Harry to watch the rest of the sorting.

McGonagall kept saying names and the sorting hat kept sorting when she called out, "Savage, Alexandria!"

Alexandria went up to the sorting hat. Kayla crossed her fingers under the table. "Hmmm…not in Hufflepuff, not Ravenclaw, not Gryffindor," Alexandria gave a small gasp. She knew what was coming next.

'Am I really evil?' she asked herself.

"Not Slytherin" the sorting hat said. The Slytherin table burst into applause because obviously they thought that she was in Slytherin.

"Shhh!" McGonagall shushed the Slytherin Table.

"What is up with you American witches?" The sorting hat asked.

"Uhhh…sorry," Alexandria replied.

"Well, just go…just go! Go anywhere you like…I'm so ashamed!" the sorting hat moaned. "Twice! I've been stumped twice! In one night! I've never been stumped twice in a night before! I've never been stumped before…period!" Alexandria took the hat off and went to join the Gryffindor Table.

The sorting hat refused to sort anyone for several minutes ("Hurry up! I'm hungry!" Was Ron's reply) "I'll just be stumped again!" the sorting hat moaned.

"Everyone has their bad days," McGonagall said to the sorting hat in a comforting and soothing voice. "When you fall off the hippogriff, you just have to get back on."

"I've never been on a hippogriff, I'm a hat lady! Come on!" the sorting hat said.

This made McGonagall very mad and she jammed the sorting hat onto the closest first year and the sorting hat looked very sad for a few moments. Then, it perked up and said, "Hufflepuff!" It continued to sort until the last person was sorted. Looking very pleased with itself, it was picked up and returned to Dumbledore's office.

"That was…Ummm…weird," Harry said as the food appeared on the table and he was helping himself to some mashed potatoes.

"Yeah…it's never done that before," Oliver said with his mouth full of roast beef.

That night, everyone was full and they made their way up to Gryffindor Tower with everyone else. They said the password and Kayla and Alexandria were led into a room that had a lot of big comfy looking chairs and a fire cracking merrily. "Welcome to the Gryffindor Common Room," someone said. "Boys' dormitories upstairs on your left, the girls' same on your right. You will find that all of your belongings have already been brought up."

Alexandria and Kayla went straight up to Oliver and Alexandria said, "So, you're the Gryffindor Team Captain huh?"

"Yes," Oliver said proudly sticking out his chest.

"We want to try out," Kayla said.

"What positions do you play?" Oliver asked, suddenly very serious.

"I play Keeper," Kayla said. "And Alexandria plays Chaser."

"Well, okay, you can try out tomorrow," Oliver said. "Goodnight."

As soon as Oliver had disappeared, Alexandria said, "Oh my God! He is so cute!"

"Harry's cuter," Kayla said admiring Harry from across the room.

Harry caught her eye and smiled. He stopped talking with Ron and Hermione and came over to them. "Holy crap!" Kayla whispered.

"Hi Kayla," Harry said.

Alexandria cleared her throat. "Oh, sorry, hi…" Harry said looking back at Kayla.

"Well, I'm a bit tired, I'm going to bed," Alexandria said nudging Kayla.

"Ha, ha, ha, very funny," Kayla said sarcastically as she looked at Alexandria's retreating back.

"So, I saw you talking to Wood over there…what were you talking about?" Harry asked.

"Oh, about trying out for Quidditch," Kayla explained.

"Oh…" Harry said. He couldn't think of anything else to say.

"Oy! Harry!" Fred yelled across the Common Room. "Have you told Kayla you fancied her yet?"

Harry turned a deep shade of red. Kayla stood there, paralyzed, not knowing what to do.

"How the hell did they find out?" Harry muttered just loud enough for Kayla to hear.

"It's true?" Kayla asked Harry as he looked up.

"Yeah…I wish that SOMEONE," he looked over and Fred, George and Lee Jordan who were sniggering in the corner looking at them, "hadn't told you like that."

"Were you planning to tell me?" Kayla asked.

"Maybe…" Harry said. "Wannagototheballwithme?"

"Excuse me?"

"Wannagototheballwithme?" Harry asked again a little slower.

"Slow down, I can't understand a word you're saying," Kayla smiled. "I want to let you know. I fancy you too."

"Really?" asked Harry in disbelief. "Do you want to go to the ball with me?"

"Of course!" Kayla said hugging him. "Well, do you want to go sit down?" Kayla asked.

"Yea…" Harry said grabbing her hand and leading her to a near by sofa.

The talked for endless hours and slowly the Common Room emptied. One by one the students bid each other goodnight and went up to their separate dormitories. Harry and Kayla sat in front of the fire until about midnight, talking.

"Did you really fly a bewitched car to Hogwarts?" Jessica asked.

"Oh, uhhh…yeah," Harry said laughing. "Wow!" Harry exclaimed looking at the clock on top of the mantelpiece. "It's past midnight! I've never talked to anyone this long before."

"Neither of I…" Kayla said, yawning. She rested her head on Harry's shoulder and they looked into the fire and slowly drifted into sleep.
