How It All Began…

Sirius Black, 5th year Gryffindor was sitting in his Common Room, purposely neglecting his potions essay that was sitting right in front of him. He looked around and saw his friend, Lily Evans coming down from the 5th year girls' dormitory with her two friends Arabella Figg and Emma Langley. Right then, his other 2 friends, James Potter and Remus Lupin came through the portrait hole, invisibility cloak in hand. "Where did you two go?" Sirius asked, jumping up from the couch that he had been sitting on.

"Kitchens," James said as he was eying the potions essay on the table where Sirius was sitting. "You're still working on that essay for Professor Newt?"

"No, I'm doing another essay because it's fun!" Sirius said sarcastically. "Mr. I'm a prefect."

James pretended to laugh as he walked to the other side of the Common Room where his long time girlfriend, (Okay, so they have been going out since Transfiguration-which was the 1st period of the day but hey, what can I say? That's a long time for James.) Jamie Lortana.

Sirius rolled his eyes as he went over to his potions essay and forced himself to work on it. He couldn't afford another bad grade in Professor Newt's class. But, he couldn't help but overhear Lily saying to her friends. "James has the most amazing brown eyes, like dark coffee. No, wait, chocolate! No! Wait! Hazel…hazel that's perfect. He's tall, dark and handsome…" Lily sighed.

'James? Dark amazing eyes? Like coffee or chocolate? Hazel? James? Tall, dark and handsome?' Sirius thought. He couldn't get over it, people referred to him (Sirius) as tall, dark and handsome. He looked around the Common Room where he spotted James with Jamie. James saw Sirius and waved him over. 'Oh well, another F can't hurt my grade that bad. How worse can you get than a 34?' He sat by James and looked at James. 'Tall? Dark? Handsome? Amazing eyes? Coffee? Chocolate? Hazel?' Sirius asked himself. He didn't see it. He looked at James' eyes, they weren't amazing, they were brown, just brown. Nothing special about them. Maybe it was because he wasn't 15-year-old Lily Evans. 'Girls…' Sirius said to himself as he watched James take Jamie's hand and led her off to a corner.

~*~*5 Minutes Later*~*~

"Hey Prongs, what did you do?" Sirius asked as James came and sat by him.

"I broke it off with Jamie."

"Why?" Sirius asked, dropping his quill and inkbottle onto his parchment. He cursed under his breath. "Oh well, that's okay, I only had my name on it anyway," Sirius said.

"You've been working on it for two hours and you only have your name?" James asked in disbelief.

"So, now on to more important matters, why did you break it off with Jamie? She's hot!"

"I didn't like her," James said quickly.

"She's one of the hottest girls in Gryffindor, no I take that back, in all of Hogwarts! James! She was a seventh year!" Sirius exclaimed.

"Well, yes, I have to agree with that," James said looking down. "Next to Lily," he said quickly, under his breath.

"Lily?!" Sirius yelled, jumping up, attracting the attention from more than half of the Common Room. He slowly sat back down; his face was in utter disbelief.

"You rang?" Lily Evans asked. She was an attractive girl with flaming red hair that was combed neatly back into a ponytail with wisps of hair in front of her brilliant green eyes.

"No," Sirius said, sitting down quickly. Then, he grinned mischievously and continued, "James wants you though, in more ways than one, if you know what I mean."

James, who was laughing, suddenly stopped and jumped at Sirius, but Sirius was quicker and started sprinting up the boys' dormitories.

James got up and sat back on the couch to find that he was sitting by none other than Lily Evans. "Hey Lily."

"Hey Jamesie," Lily joked. She was the only one that had the authority to call him 'Jamesie'. It was a nickname that she had made up for him, since they have been friends since they met on the Hogwarts Express in their first year, when James nearly killed Lily by almost running over her with the lunch trolley that he had stolen from the old witch.

They sat in silence for a few moments when Remus came running down the stairs of their dormitory. "James!!!!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. "Is it true? Do you really like Li-!" Then, he stopped, suddenly noticing that Lily was sitting there with James. "Oh," he stopped dead in his tracks. "I'll just be leaving now." He slowly started backing away from the two, then he ran up the stairs yelling, "Sirius!!!!"

Up in the boys' dormitories, Remus was telling Sirius what he had seen and Sirius had a maniac grin on his face, like his birthday had just been declared a national holiday. "Oh! This is so perfect!"

As soon as he said that, James came up the stairs, looking quite happy. "Hello, Moony, Padfoot." He addressed them a little to formally.

"Prongs! What happened?" Sirius asked immediately.

"She gave me a hug," James looked up, smiling, looking like Christmas had come early.

"Excellent!" Remus exclaimed. "So, what happens now?" Remus wasn't known to be the expert on girls; it was always Sirius and James (Sorry, no Peter, he makes me sick.) who had been experts on this. Don't get me wrong or anything, Remus had had more than his share of girlfriends but didn't know as much about them as James and Sirius.

"Well, what did she do?" Sirius asked.

"Well, she said she was going to bed and then we both got up and she pulled me into a hug, and then my first year fan club started trying to jinx her with their wands," James said, half laughing. Then, continued, "They were all trying to perform Wingardium Leviosa on her."

"So, did you hug her or did she hug you?" Sirius asked seriously.

James stammered for a moment, "I think s-she hugged me."

"You think?" Remus asked, raising his eyebrows.

"I don't know, it just felt right," James said, walking over to his four-poster bed and pulling the curtains shut, leaving a very confused Sirius and Remus behind.

~*~*~Up In The Girl's Dormitory~*~*~

"What happened with James?" Arabella asked, not waiting two seconds before Lily walked into the dorm, or until Lily could wipe off that goofy grin on her face.

"We hugged," Lily replied, with the same stupid grin on her face.

"You hugged him?" Emma asked. Emma wasn't an expert on boys, she had had her occasional date to Hogsmeade, but she concentrated on schoolwork most of the time. It was usually Lily and Arabella that got most of the dates, but Emma didn't mind, she preferred to concentrate on schoolwork than waste time chasing after boys. (Or so she said.)

Lily nodded her head up and down stupidly, still grinning from ear to ear.

"Tell me everything!" Arabella shouted, abandoning her Advanced Defense Against The Dark Arts homework and retreating to Lily's bed where she (Lily) was sitting.

"Well," Lily started. "We were talking and then I decided to come back up here and go to bed and we hugged."

"Did you hug him or did he hug you?" Arabella inquired.

"I don't know…" Lily replied. "And these first years, I guess they have a crush on James or something because they were trying to perform Wingardium Leviosa on me, imagine how cool that would've been if they actually managed to levitate us."

"Why?" Emma asked, raising her eyes from her Charms homework.

"Because me and James would've been flying!" Lily giggled as she fell back on her bed. She grabbed a picture of all of her friends that she had taken at the end of their first year. James, Sirius and Remus were there. So were Arabella Emma and herself. They were all beside the Great Lake and they could see the giant squid and the Whomping Willow in the background. Then, she put the picture back where it belonged and lit a candle.

~*~*~The Next Day~*~*~

"Lils!" James exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air as Lily entered the Common Room the next morning. Everyday was the same; James would always greet her by throwing his hands up and yelling, "Lils!" at the top of his lungs so that the whole population of Hogwarts could hear.

And, in return Lily would always yell, "Jamesie!" at the top of her lungs. It was just one of their things, I guess.

They entered the Entrance Hall to find a notice posted. It stated:

Hogsmeade Trip this weekend

December 17

Third years and up may attend.

"Want to go?" James asked to everyone. But, Sirius noticed that he was looking more at Lily than anyone else. He decided not to say anything about this, considering that he managed to do enough damage last night.

    "Yeah," Lily replied.

"Sweet!" Sirius exclaimed, punching a fist up into the air. "I needed to stock up on Zonko's!"

The girls rolled their eyes as they entered the Great Hall.

~*~*~December 17~*~*~

"Get up Lily!" Arabella yelled, yanking the covers off of Lily and throwing them across the room.

Lily checked the clock on the wall. It read nine thirty. "Bella! What the hell are you doing?" Lily cried, trying to find the comforters and go back to sleep. Obviously, she wasn't a morning person.

"Nope!" Arabella cried, yanking Lily up and shoving her into the bathroom.

A few seconds later, Lily came back out and asked, "The Hogsmeade trip isn't until eleven!"

"Yes, but you have to get ready!" Arabella shoved her back into the bathroom and this time, Lily didn't come back out until she was clean. "Okay, sit down here," Arabella pointed at a chair in front of a mirror.

Lily obediently sat down and asked, "Why are you fussing over me?"

"You have to look beautiful for your James…wow, Lily Potter sounds so…" Arabella couldn't find the word.

"Perfect," Lily finished for her, smiling.

A half an hour later, the three boys were sitting the Common Room, waiting for the girls. Remus checked his watch, "Why are they taking so long?"

    The other two shrugged.

"Okay! You're ready!" Arabella said to Lily, she had gone all out and put in every little detail that she could think of. Lily looked absolutely amazing with her curled hair and made up face that looked completely natural.

"Okay, let's go!" Emma said, waving them to the door.

"Here they come," Sirius said as James immediately whipped his head around to have a clear view of the girls' dormitories.

    "Wow…" James whispered, awestruck.

Sirius nudged him, smiling. "Hey!" he said to the girls.

The three girls smiled as the six of them exited the Common Room and went down to the Great Hall for breakfast.

After breakfast, they assembled in the Entrance Hall and went to Hogsmeade. James put his arm around Lily's shoulder, like he often did. 'Just brotherly love, he doesn't love me like that.' Lily thought to herself as she trembled at his touch.

When they got to Hogsmeade, they saw Jamie Lortana. (James' ex!) She stormed up to James and slapped him across the face. "You dumped me for her!" She pointed at Lily, who was looking furious. "This-ugly little mudblood!?!?"

James jumped on Jamie and grabbed her wand out of her hand and threw it aside. He took his own in his hand and pointed it at her face. "Furnunculus!"

Large, quarter sized boils popped over her face and hands. James finally let her up and she ran screaming down the cobblestone path yelling and clutching her face.

Sirius, Remus, Emma, Arabella and Lily were all looking at him, dumbstruck as he dusted off his robes. "What?" he asked.

"I cannot believe you just did that," Remus said slowly.

Lily however was speechless, she went up and hugged James around the waist and he was very surprised. He looked over Lily's shoulder and saw Remus and Sirius giving him thumbs up signs and acting like idiots.

When they finally separated, the girls wanted to go Christmas shopping and (of course) the three guys wanted to go Zonko's and they agreed to meet up at the Three Broomsticks in a few hours. So, they went their separate ways. On the way to Zonko's James saw this little jewelers place that he had never noticed before. "Hey, I'll be there in a second." He said to Remus and Sirius.

They looked back to see James entering a tiny jewelers shop. They followed him and found him talking to a sales clerk that was showing him a bracelet that had a stag charm on it. "That will be ten galleons, including the engraving," the old wizard said as he handed James the bracelet and took the ten galleons.

"Prongs! What are you doing? You won't be able to buy anything from Zonko's for ages! Why did you buy that stupid thing anyway?" Sirius asked, looking at the bracelet with a look of disgust.

"For Lily," he said, pocketing the jewel.

The other two gave out an exasperated sigh and headed to Zonko's.

James got really cold, being that he forgot his cloak in the dorm, he told them that he was going to the Three Broomsticks for some butterbeer and come back later. "Okay," they said, probably not paying much attention since they had just found Filibuster Fireworks for half price and were stocking up.

When he entered the Three Broomsticks, he went up to the counter and saw Madam Rosmerta, "Hello!" he said waving.

Madam Rosmerta smiled and finished filling up a glass of butterbeer for another customer and then came over to talk to James. "So, how's life treating you James?" she asked, leaning on the counter and handing him a glass of butterbeer.

He took it gratefully and started drinking it. "You know, you're going to have to pay me for all of these butterbeers someday, right?" she asked laughing.

James had a tab at the Three Broomsticks that was probably higher than all of the other customers combined. He laughed, "Yeah, right, like that's going to happen!"

Madam Rosmerta laughed and then asked, "So, who's your girlfriend this week?"

    "No one," James told her.

Madam Rosmerta pretended to faint then asked, "So, are you going to ask anyone?"

"Actually, yes," he grinned and reached into his pocket and took out the silver charm bracelet and handed it to Madam Rosmerta and said, "I'm going to give this to her."

"Wow James, you must really like her!" Madam Rosmerta exclaimed, studying the little stag. "Who is she?"

"Lily Evans," he said without missing a beat.

"She's the one with the red hair and green eyes? Isn't she?" Madam Rosmerta asked.

    "Amazing green eyes," he corrected.

"Yeah, you're in here a lot with her, aren't you?" Madam Rosmerta asked, taking something off of her finger.

    "Yep!"

"Well then, here," she handed him a gold ring with an emerald in the middle. "Give this to Lily."

James was awe. He fingered the gold band and looked at the emerald, it matched Lily's eyes perfectly, like it was made for her. "No, I can't," he shoved it back at Madam Rosmerta.

"No, my ex boyfriend when I was about your age gave it to me, he said it matched my eyes perfectly but, I think he meant his other girlfriend since you can probably see that my eyes are brown," Madam Rosmerta laughed and shoved the jewel back at James.

    "Seriously?" James asked in awe.

    "Yep," Madam Rosmerta replied.

"When I propose," he muttered under his breath so that no one could hear him.

He looked up at Madam Rosmerta and smiled, "Thank you, its perfect." Then, he dug into his pocket and put forty-seven galleons onto the counter. "We're even."

"Jamesie!" Lily called, waving at him.

"Awww…that's so sweet! She had a pet name for you!" Madam Rosmerta teased as James hit her playfully.

"Lils!" he said, pocketing the bracelet and ring.

They sat in a nearby booth and Madam Rosmerta winked at James. James breathed and said, "Lily?"

"Yeah?" she asked, looking up into his eyes, then putting her head on his shoulder.

"D-Do yo-you wa-ant to bemygirlfriend?" he said the last part extremely fast.

Lily had known James for five years and she knew what he had said. "Yes!" she exclaimed hugging him and knocking down his butterbeer.

Then, after the parted, James planted a kiss on her forehead and dug through his pocket and took out the stag bracelet. "Oh James!" she gasped, almost crying.

'Oh no, not the waterworks, I hate it when girls cry!' he thought as he put his arm around Lily as she held the bracelet and turned the stag over to find an engraving that said.

Lily and James

Forever

She put on the bracelet and they heard cheers coming from the entrance of the bar. They turned to see none other than Remus, Sirius, Emma and Arabella, yelling themselves hoarse.

~*~*~2 Years Later~*~*~

~*~*~Graduation~*~*~

"Now may I present the Head Boy, James Potter and the Head Girl, Lily Evans!" Dumbledore announced to the crowd who started applauding.

The two walked out onstage and gave their speeches. (A/N: I'm no good at writing speeches so, I'm not going to. LOL!)

At the reception, in the Great Hall, James took Lily's hand and knelt down. "Lily Rose Evans," he began.

The Great Hall suddenly became very quiet but neither Lily nor James noticed.

"Would you marry me?" James asked, hope filling his eyes. His stomach turned over and did somersaults but he didn't let go of Lily's hand.

"Yes!" she exclaimed. James sighed a sigh of relief as he pulled Lily into a hug and the Great Hall burst into applause.

James dug into his pocket and pulled out the emerald ring that Madam Rosmerta had given him and handed it over to Lily.

Lily gasped, "Oh James! Where did you get this?"

    "Madam Rosmerta," James blushed.

Lily looked confused. "In our fifth year, right before I asked you to be my girlfriend, I was talking to Madam Rosmerta and I told her I wanted to ask you out and she gave me this ring to give to you. And now, Lily Potter, it's yours."

~*~*~The Wedding~*~*~

"Do you, Lily Rose Evans, take James Michael Potter as your lawfully wedded husband as long as you both shall live?" Dumbledore asked.

James tensed up. 'What if she said no? No! Of course she wouldn't say no! I love her more than life itself and she loves me back.'

    "I do," Lily replied, grinning.

"Now, do you, James Michael Potter, take Lily Rose Evans as your lawfully wedded wife as long as you both shall live?" Dumbledore recited.

'Of course he's going to say yes! I can't live without him, and he loves me and I love him.' Lily thought.

"I wouldn't have it any other way," James replied, smiling.

"Then, by the power vested in me by the Ministry of Magic, I now pronounce you husband and wife!"

James leaned in for a kiss and then stopped before he could touch Lily's lips and blushed. Dumbledore smiled, "Yes, now you may kiss the bride."
