The Trials of Draco Malfoy: Get Over It
Harry Potter. I'm sick of hearing that name! Harry saves the day! Harry this, Harry that. No one cares about me and my friends at Slytherin. Gryffindor gets all the glory. I'm not all bad, honestly. My dad is just pressuring me so much. But now that he's in jail, I'm free to do as I choose. Starting with getting a girlfriend from Gryffindor.
Her name is Kailyn MaRazzle. My dad would kill me if he ever found out she was a mudblood but he would kill me anyway. Kay's kind, the reason she ended up in Gryffindor, and a reason why she's so good for me. But enough about her. I'm back at Hogwarts and oh so much closer to finishing.
"Draco Malfoy!" My best friends, Crabbe and Goyle yelled. I turned to see them, both their usual pudgy selves.
"Hey boys, what's up? Listen, I have an IQ higher than you so I'm ditching you to find your own friends, bye," I spoke quickly and tried to head out of the train cart, but Crabbe and Goyle's blubbery figures stopped scrawny me.
"Not so fast Draco, what's up with you? When we left, you were real angry with Potter and now you're spastic. What's up?" Goyle, dumb as a stick answered.
"Listen, I've had a change of heart since my dad ain't pressuring me anymore. I'm over pulling pranks. Good is better than evil," I answered Crabbe and Goyle looked stunned.
"I'd never thought I'd hear those words from Draco Malfoy," Ron Weasley chuckled, followed by Hermione Granger and Harry Potter (I'm shuddering.)
"Even his name sounds like Dragon Bad Boy," Hermione snickered.
"Remember how on day one of Hogwarts you said you didn't want me with the wrong sort? I see you finally understand the real wrong sort," Harry smiled. Was it just me or was Harry inviting me to be his friend? Holy cricket.
"Yeah, I guess so," I answered.
"All Hogwarts students should exit the train now," an announcer called. I exited the train with hero boy. Without him, my dad would still be putting pressure on me. Time for year six of Hogwarts.
~*~
The only problem was the fact that I was in Slytherin house. Snape would kill me if I told him I wanted to be in Gryffindor! The Sorting Hat wasn't even on my head when it had said Slytherin. I was destined to be here and I don't know why. I went to go see Snape the second I got there. But right outside his door, I heard voices inside.
"I know why I'm here McGonagle! I don't need you to remind me!"
"I'm just saying Severus that Slytherin house needs to be kept in proper order. Malfoy and his cronies are going to be up to no good this year."
"I'm not sure about that, with their parents in jail and all."
"Severus, keep your students from trouble. If they tell you a scheme, catch them while you can. Now excuse me, I must see Dumbledore about the Weasley twins. Good evening," and with that Minerva McGonagle left the room, banging the door behind her. I knocked softly.
"Yes, come in," Snape muttered. I walked in quietly.
"That was a wimpy knock, Malfoy. I'd expect better from you."
"Doesn't everyone."
"Where's the no-brains?"
"Probably stuffing their fat cakeholes," I responded cruelly.
"You in a row?"
"No. I just don't want to be friends anymore."
"I see. Do you have any allies left in Slytherin, Mr. Malfoy?"
"No. All my allies are in Gryffindor."
"Gryffindor!" Snape spat. "Who?"
"Kailyn MaRazzle, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Harry Potter," I half-whispered.
"Harry Potter! Draco are you going mad?"
"No. Change of heart."
"Then you're going to Dumbledore's office to see the Sorting Hat."
~*~
"Ah, Professor Snape, Mr. Malfoy. What is the reason for your visit?" Wise old Dumbledore spoke.
"Mr. Malfoy would like to try on the Sorting Hat again, see where it'll put him," Snape snapped. Dumbledore took the hat down with care and put it on my head.
"You again? Uh...change of something...your hair...your heart? Hmm...decisions.... Hmmm...Gryffindor or back in Slytherin...hmm...very interesting.... GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shouted. I smiled, but not the same devious grin I had smiled six years ago at my first sorting, this was the smile of the new and improved Draco Malfoy.
~*~
"Attention Hogwarts students, I have an important announcement. Never in history has a student changed houses. But for the first time in history, switching from Slytherin to Gryffindor is Draco Malfoy!" The Gryffindor table clapped (or at least Kay and Harry did.) Crabbe and Goyle looked stunned from losing the brains of their operation. I took my seat in between Harry and Kay.
"Congrats," Kay smiled. Ron and Hermione were just as shocked as Crabbe and Goyle. Luna Lovegood, a fifth year in Ravenclaw turned to me and smiled.
"Nice job Draco," Luna laughed.
"Now, there is a reminder to stay out of the Forbidden Forest, especially this year for our new inhabitant," Dumbledore smiled at Hagrid, for some secretive reason. "And I'd like to announce the return of our professors who were kicked out by Umbridge. And I'd also like to welcome our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Fleur Delacour." It took everyone a minute to comprehend, including myself.
"I thought Fleur was dating my brother at Gringotts!" Ron asked surprised.
"Me too," Hermione agreed. Since the two of them started dating over the summer, it seemed that Harry was a bit left out.
"Fleur looks awful happy up there," Harry whispered to me.
"That's the strange thing," Angelina, one of the Weasley twins' girlfriends added.
"Another new professor is Oliver Wood who will be teaching a new Quidditch class, taking over for Madame Hooch who is now running Durmstrang."
"And returning is Professor Remus Lupin who will be assisting Hagrid in care for magical creatures," Dumbledore finished. "Let the feast begin."
~*~
"Alright. This is the common room and that stairs is the guy's dormitories," Harry explained.
"Okay." I smiled to Kailyn who was staring dreamily at me. Harry walked up the stairs.
"So who's Harry dating now?" Kay asked.
"Cho Chang still, or at least he was last year. Maybe he dumped her for that Luna girl."
"Who cares about Harry when Draco's here," Kay smiled. "Meet me here at ten," she hugged me, then left.
"Ten o'clock," I sighed when Kailyn had left.
"Draco, are you coming?" Harry yelled. I dashed off smiling.
~*~
I awoke quickly at 9:30. So my charm had worked! I was early so I crept slowly to the stairs. Halfway down the stairs, I heard voices.
"Harry, god, what's wrong with you?" A girl's voice yelled.
"Absolutely nothing," Harry replied. "Cho, I knew you're still upset over Cedric but..."
"Upset over Cedric! NO! I'm upset over you! You no good dirty rotten..."
"What have I done? It's only the first day of sixth year!"
"What haven't you done," Cho responded coldly.
"So we're over?"
"We've been over from the start," Cho answered, leaving the common room. Harry remained there, sitting on the couch. I decided to join him.
"Harry, are you okay?"
"I don't want to talk about it."
"You sure?"
"Yes."
"Alright. I'm meeting Kay here in about ten minutes. I was wondering..."
"Yes, I'll go," Harry stood up and walked coolly back to the boys' dormitories.
~*~
Harry was acting weird. No doubt about it. Ever since his meeting with Cho. But hey, when was I friends with Harry Potter? My old self was kicking in. I missed being Snape's favorite (his new favorite is Crabbe! The knucklehead!) Maybe I should have stayed in Slytherin. I wouldn't be as bad off as my dad would think me to be. My dad!
I raced down the stairs into the great hall, which was already filled with people waiting for breakfast. My eyes searched for one girl.
"Luna!" I yelled, as I finally spotted her. She turned and smiled.
"Good morning Draco. You look flustered," Luna giggled.
"I am. Can I see your latest copy of the Quibbler?"
"Sure."
My eyes danced around the page. Then I found my death sentence:
Lucius Malfoy Released from Azkaban
Death eater Lucius Malfoy has been released from jail for Cornelious Fudge has denied that he was part of Voldemort's scheme. I honestly think it was bribery, for Mr. Crabbe and Mr. Goyle are still there. Narcissa, a family relative says, "Lucius was always the bad one in the family. He needs to learn from his mistakes." No other information has been given.
"Holy cricket!" I gasped. My dad was back.
~*~
It wasn't until Potions when I was called to Dumbledore's office. My dad sat there, his face purple, his hair shorter by a foot.
"Draco, Lucius, I'll let the two of you speak alone," Dumbledore left his own office.
"Draco, I can't believe you switched houses!"
"I can't believe you ended up in jail!" I yelled back.
"You know I've always been a death eater."
"Yeah, but you could have stayed out of the entire event with Bellatrix and Sirius!"
"Voldemort asked me to!"
"Well you could have turned him down!"
"Do you want me dead boy?"
"If it's better than the way you are now!"
"Draco, for God's sake! You're my son. You should be in Slytherin like all the pure-blood Malfoys before!"
"Sirius Black was pure-blood and Bellatrix still killed him. And him and Bellatrix were related!"
"And we're related to both of them, big deal!"
"What! You knew?"
"Of course I knew. I knew it was Peter Pettigrew that killed all those people from the start!"
"You let him go to Azkaban for that many years for something he didn't do!"
"Yes!"
"You are evil and you deserve to be in prison. You deserve to be dead!" I walked out of the room quickly. Dumbledore greeted me on the other side of the door to from the elevator.
"Not so well?"
"Not at all. He should still be in jail."
"I have the feeling Fudge had something to do with this. Crabbe and Goyle are still in jail. It's strange they only let Lucius out. Do you know if he's an animagus?"
"For all I know, he could be."
~*~
Back in the dormitories, Harry sat on his bed, reading a book on Quidditch. He was now Captain of the Gryffindor team, appointing me seeker.
"Draco! Thank god you're here! I need your help! I want you to befriend Cho and find out why she hates me so much," Harry smiled. "Is that too hard?"
"No, easy as pie," I smiled. He gave me a high-five. Now where to find Cho...
In the common room, Hermione, Kay, Ginny Weasley, and another girl I didn't know were studying.
"Does anyone know where I can find Cho?" I asked.
"The last time I saw her, she was in the library crying in the back section," Ginny responded.
"Yeah, she's been depressed a lot lately," the girl I didn't know muttered. "I'm Tinka Reynolds, by the way. And you are?"
"Draco Malfoy," I answered with a grin. She looked like Cho Chang, just with shorter hair and was shorter in height.
"I'm Cho's cousin. During the summer, I stayed at her house. Her parents tried to cheer her up, but even the daily shopping sprees at Diagon Alley couldn't help her."
"Alright. Thanks. Bye Tinka, Ginny, and Hermione," I smiled. Kay looked up.
"What about me?" she asked.
"Bye baby, " I smiled, walking out of the room. The last thing I heard before I left earshot was "You're dating him?"
~*~
I casually strolled into the library. Looking around, I found Cho in a back corner. Her eyes were red and irritated, her hair looking as if it hadn't been combed in a week. Walking up to her, I asked, "Cho, are you alright?"
"Leave me alone Draco," she sniffed. "I don't need your sympathy."
"You're not getting my sympathy. I wanted to talk to you about Harry Potter," she cried harder.
"Harry Potter is evil," she cried.
"Why do you think that?"
"He killed Cedric!"
"No, he didn't, Voldemort did!" I yelled. A loud wave of 'shh" rolled through the crowd.
"Let's take a walk so you can yell all you want." I took her arm and dragged her out the door.
"I know Harry keeps saying Voldemort killed him, but I don't believe him. Harry's always been jealous of Cedric. I truthfully think he killed him. Harry's always had so much rage."
"He's angry because no one believes him. I would be too if that were the scenario. His parents are dead and he lives with a mean family. Plus he used to get bullied by me," I told her.
"Fine, whatever. I still believe what I want."
"So are you going to meet Harry tonight by Hagrid's hut, or in the Gryffindor common room?"
"Uh, Draco, I don't want to see Harry."
"But he wants to see you."
"Fine, whatever. I'll meet him in the Common Room tonight, eight o' clock." She then smiled. "Thank you Draco." Then she walked off; right as Crabbe, Goyle, and my ex-girlfriend Pansy Parkinson walked by.
"Hey Draco," Pansy, the fat cow, smiled, batting her eyes.
"What do you creeps want?" I asked.
"Creeps. Big word." Goyle muttered.
"I'm so scared," Crabbe said in a high-pitched voice.
"Shut your trap, all of you. For God's sake just leave me alone!" I shouted.
"Well Draco. We have a surprise for you tonight. Come to the lake at eight." Then they walked off, leaving me in suspicions.
~*~
"How'd it go?" Harry asked me as I walked in.
"You've got a date at eight," I rhymed. Harry jumped up and smiled.
"Yes!" Harry yelled. Hermione and Ron walked into the common room, hand in hand. They walked right past Harry and I without even saying hello.
"What's with the cold shoulder they're giving you?" I asked.
"I dunno." Then Ginny and Tinka walked in, Kay behind them.
"How could you?" She stared at me coldly.
"What the heck?" I murmured. Kay turned back to me.
"Ginny said she saw you and Cho together," Kay yelled.
"Yeah, I was talking to her for Harry," I answered. Harry nodded.
"Ginny's my best friend."
"I'm your boyfriend!"
"Draco."
"Kay, listen. I love you and I wouldn't cheat on you!"
"Draco, I'm sorry," Kay walked off. I stood next to Harry.
"Now I understand how you feel, Harry," I said.
~*~
At dinner that day, Luna came up to me.
"Draco. Come to the hall when you're done. It's urgent. And bring Harry, Ron, and Hermione," Luna whispered, her wide eyes staring.
"Alright," I answered, shoving a piece of chicken into my mouth and following Luna Lovegood out. Harry, Ron, and Hermione followed.
"Cho's missing," Luna said. The four of us exchanged glances.
"What?" Harry asked.
"Cho hasn't been seen sine she was with you, Draco. Do you know where she went?"
"No," I answered. "But I think I know who has her."
~*~
"Get your hands off me!" Cho yelled. Crabbe snickered.
"Yeah right," Crabbe said.
"This should show that Draco fella," Pansy laughed viciously.
"What are you going to do to me?" Cho screamed.
"Don't tell her," Lucius snapped. Cho was thrown to the ground, her blindfold falling off.
"You! How could you?" Cho shrieked, staring out at Crabbe, Goyle, Pansy, and Lucius.
"Quiet girl," Lucius barked.
"Somebody help me!" Cho whispered.
~*~
In a sprint, I raced outside to the lake. Hermione, Harry, Ron, and Luna followed, panting. On the hill above, four figures stood silhouetted in the moonlight. One was taller than the others. And then a figure came rolling down the hill.
"Holy cricket!" Harry yelled. "It's Cho!" Her screams rang out.
"Wingardium leviosa!" Someone yelled. I turned to see Kay behind me. She levitated Cho to us. Ginny and Tinka stood behind her. Cho stood in tears, clutching her arm.
"Are you okay?" Harry asked, hugging her tightly.
"Yeah, but my arm kills," Cho sobbed.
"We'll have to get her to Madame Pomfrey," Hermione muttered. By that time Harry, Ron, Tinka, Ginny, and I were halfway up the hill. Hermione and Kay stayed with Cho. At the hill I stared at three faces I wasn't surprised at, and the one that terrified me. It was Crabbe, Goyle, Pansy, and my father.
"Dad!" I yelled. My father stared at me with cold eyes. That started the fight.
"Expelliarmus!" Tinka's voice yelled as Pansy Parkinson fell. Everyone was struggling.
"Avada Kedavra!" Lucius yelled. Everyone turned to Lucius. Then Pansy fell again.
"You killed her," Crabbe yelled.
Lucius smirked. "I was aiming for Potter."
"Not anymore, Lucius!" Cornelius Fudge yelled. Behind him stood Dumbledore and a squad of aurors. I watched them take my father away. Two aurors carried Pansy's body away. Cho walked herself to Madame Pomfrey's office. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Tinka, Crabbe, and Goyle went back to their dormitories.
"Hi Kay," I smiled. She looked at me.
"Hey Draco," she grinned.
"My dad killed Pansy," I muttered.
"I know. He almost killed Harry. He could have killed you too if I hadn't pushed you down."
"That was you?"
"Yeah."
"Thanks." I smiled. "So are we still together?"
"Yeah, that'd be nice." Kay kissed me under the stars. With our arms around each other, Kay and I walked back in to Hogwarts. Maybe sixth year would be better than all the rest.
