The Story of Fred and George Weasley

Chapter 2

Fred and George ate two spoonfuls of their porridge and stood up in unison. "Well, better be off then," said George.

"Without even eating a proper breakfast?" Mrs. Weasley wore a scowl. "Here have a bit of toast on your way out." She handed the boys one piece of toast each as they hurried to the fireplace. George stood in front of the fireplace with the bowl of floo powder in his hand. There was a flash of light and Fred was on the floor with Harry next to him, both covered in soot. A second flash erupted with the appearance of Hermione standing firmly on her feet.

"Honestly, you still haven't gotten the hang of traveling by floo," she hissed as the boys got to their feet, bushing soot off of them.

Fred was nearly doubled over in laughter at the two struggling to get to their feet. "Sorry George, didn't mean to land on you," said Harry.

"No worries Harry. At least you pummeled me before Mum could. And by the way I think I may need another piece of toast while you're at it Mum, mines covered in soot." Mrs. Weasley pointed her wand at the pile of toast on the table and one flew right into George's hand. "Well bye then," said George with a wave. He stepped into the grate and said, "Three Broomsticks." He disappeared in a flash of green flames, Fred did the same right after him.

Madame Rosmerta gave a great start when George Weasley came flying through her fireplace at seven in the morning and his brother shortly after him. "Fred and George, aren't you two used to traveling by floo, at your age you shouldn't be falling when you arrive." Madame Rosmerta was busy picking up the bottles of mead they'd knocked over upon arrival.

"We're very good at traveling by floo powder, we only fall for fun," said Fred with a smile.

Madame Rosmerta grimaced. "Well then, have some fun picking up the rest of these bottles will you," and she stalked off back behind the bar. "I shudder to think about the trouble you two are going to bring me over the years. Opening a shop right next to my pub, all those tricksters walking about will cause me a great havoc. Mind you, the kids from Hogwarts will be rather pleased but not me. And Argus Filch will be up ready to have your heads if those kids bring all of that stuff back to Hogwarts."

George smirked, "We've had that stuff up at Hogwarts for years and ruddy old Filch hasn't found any yet. Then again we never made anything like we're going to reveal today at the Grand Opening. Stayed up all last night putting the finishing touches on it, it's going to be a real spectacle."

Madame Rosmerta looked skeptically at the boys, "My Lord, It won't explode will it? I'll have to seal everything to the walls with my wand again."

Fred and George laughed. "It's a surprise. But you might want to glue everything up for good measure," said George.
