The aftermath of the attack on number four, Privet Drive. Harry realises what he did to break the protection spell and races back to Little Whinging in a panic, having seen the news report about the attack. He has an unexpected ally, but will he hinder Harry more than help him? Instinct tells him not to just go blundering into Mrs Figg's when he sees unfamiliar wizards there, and thus he sets in motion a complicated series of events....

Harry familiarises himself with his new hiding place, learning some surprising things about an old acquaintance. Dumbledore has a meeting in his office and announces to Snape, Lupin and Molly that Harry is safe (if he stays where he is). He also tells them that he intends to publicise some very important information in Sybill Trelawney's prophecy. But is it a good idea? And will Harry have the sense to stay put?

A haunted toilet appears in Harry's life again, but this time he's the one doing the haunting. He learns more about his former teacher through pretending to be her father's ghost and also learns that her dad had something in common with Sirius. At St Mungo's, Ron is nearly recovered from Malfoy's attack but now feels like his mother and Hermione are ganging up on him. Will he and Hermione ever stop going from one row to another? And Moody demonstrates to Ginny and Remus why having a magic eye is even more convenient than Extendable Ears when you really want to know what's going on behind closed doors....

Tilda's family arrive to celebrate her birthday early, resulting in much madness as she makes sure they don't find Harry, who has to sleep in Tilda's room so that her brother can kip on the couch. Tilda is starting to have some thoughts about Harry that she knows are utterly inappropriate for a woman her age, but before she can think much about this a letter comes for him, special delivery....

Harry must tell Tilda the truth when his OWL results arrive and she reads the letter before he does. As he tells her about phoenixes and basilisks and dragons, about his life at Hogwarts and the prophecy that has shaped his life, something in him cracks and he makes a decision for his future.

Harry sneaks back to Privet Drive in his Invisibility Cloak to retrieve his broom and other magical items--just when Snape, Bill and his Aunt Petunia decide to show up. Hermione is less than thrilled with her OWLs and Ginny realises that Harry should be receiving his exam results as well, but this could be quite dangerous for him while he's still in hiding....

Harry can't bring himself to confront Tilda with the truth about her father. Then he realises WHY he doesn't want to destroy her late father's image, and slow-dancing with her in the living room doesn't make it easy to hide his feelings from her...

Harry has lost some time and wonders whether Voldemort possessed him. He discovers a hidden talent that has served him before but he's not certain that he likes Tilda's reaction to it. Meanwhile, Dumbledore discovers that Voldemort knows where Harry is. The time has come to muster the powers of the Order of the Phoenix to protect Harry and bring him back to London...

While Harry and Tilda are still in Brighton Dumbledore, the Order, Voldemort and the Death Eaters are all converging on Little Whinging. Harry wanted to enjoy himself on his sixteenth birthday; if a magical battle is his idea of a good time he may get his wish.

Percy and Umbridge square off and Percy recalls how he came to work for Fudge--and Dumbledore. Tilda and Harry leave Brighton for Surrey, where the Order is waiting to escort him safely to London. Voldemort, however, doesn't plan to let that happen....

Fudge comes to Percy's office, but rather than believing his story about Umbridge he has Percy sent to St Mungo's. And Voldemort hasn't just brought Death Eaters to Little Whinging, he's brought the thing Harry fears most: all of the Dementors of Azkaban. How will Harry concentrate on conjuring a Patronus with Voldemort's laughter ringing through his head? Meanwhile, at St Mungo's, Percy is living his own nightmare: he's in the same ward as Gilderoy Lockhart and the last thing he wants to do is help him with his fan mail or discuss joined-up writing. Let the battle begin.

Harry returns to Grimmauld Place to find some changes in Ron and Hermione's friendship. He feels oddly jealous when Ginny mentions that Luna fancies Ron (he's having trouble separating her from Tilda in his mind). Harry feels that he will burst if he doesn't tell someone about Tilda and finds that Ginny has become exactly the sort of good friend in whom he can confide the events of the previous fortnight....

Nearly four years after battling Voldemort in Little Whinging and almost two years after finishing his seventh year Harry is a married man and about to become a father. However, he isn't coping with the wizarding tradition of men being shut out while his wife is giving birth. Just who is his wife and how did they become a couple? As deputy headmaster, Snape is obliged to visit new Muggle-born students and some new half-blood students during the summer--anyone who lacks the means to respond to the Hogwarts letter. His visit to Latere Farm, however, introduces him to a very familiar-looking boy, bringing back bad memories of Snape's own school days. So how will he respond to the mother's plea to look out for her son at Hogwarts?

Severus takes young Harrison and his mother shopping in Diagon Alley, trying to refrain from dwelling on memories of James Potter and not always succeeding. After Ollivander correctly guesses the identity of the boy's father his mother asks Severus to look out for her son at Hogwarts, never dreaming that she is asking him to be the protector of a boy who is the spitting image of his old nemesis....

Ginny confronts Harry about whether he lied to her about Tilda; Harry confronts Snape about whether he impersonated Harry to be with Tilda; and Teddy has the Worst First Day of Term Ever, courtesy of his dad, The Boy Who Lived.

Harry spies on his son during detention and ends up getting him another detention, this time with Snape. The next morning he is determined to make a fresh start with his son but is immediately confronted with a Daily Prophet headline that will make this a challenge. What Harry doesn't know is that an old schoolmate is interested in the headline for a rather sinister reason...

Harry tries to talk to Teddy but the boy's accidental magic causes a bit of mayhem in the DADA office. In the meantime, the word about Harry's illegitimate son is spreading through the wizarding world. Anxious to find out the truth, Harry goes to see Tilda, who asks to come to Hogwarts so that she can apologise to Ginny and to Harry's daughters for turning their lives upside down. But these things never go as planned... Featuring breaking glass, a flying sword, an out-of-control Crup, a flashback to Harry's seventh year, Fred and George reminiscing about their glory days, and the arrival of the Prophet's most controversial reporter. Family reunion, indeed.

Tilda has a problem seeing Hogwarts as it really is due to being a Muggle, but an unexpected encounter with Snape helps her--although she doesn't appreciate his trying to interfere in the relationship she has with her son, especially since he is not a parent. Or so she thinks. Ginny bonds with Teddy but the result is that she develops a longing to have a son herself. And in Wiltshire yet another mother receives an offer that she may or may not refuse...

The Christmas season brings many surprises: Narcissa has something Blaise wants and Blaise offers to get Narcissa what she wants; Severus isn't certain what, or who, he wants, although his son seems to have a much better idea; Molly gets an unexpected gift from an unexpected source; and Teddy and Nate's younger siblings try to convince them to carry out a daring plan that involves getting into the Restricted Section of the library using a certain old magical map...

Narcissa tells Blaise that she wants to get Draco out of prison even though they don't have the spell they want yet; Teddy, Nate and Donna perform the exorcism but run into a little trouble right afterward; Harry wishes the Carlisle brothers would just go away, only to discover that his own son and nephew constitute an even bigger disciplinary headache; and Teddy has reasons of his own for not wanting to be around the Carlisles--especially now that they want to be his friends.

After getting over the fact that they weren't expelled, Teddy and Nate realize that their plan worked! Draco is suspicious of Blaise's motives and feels like he's back in prison (apart from the fact that a very familiar-looking butler is waiting on him). And Tilda learns that a Hogwarts teacher can unexpectedly find her classroom turned upside down--quite literally. Plus: a missing child, a marriage proposal, Harry makes Tilda and Ginny want to slap him, and one gratuitous use of the Invisibility Cloak.

Percy's return results in unexpected reactions from various people: Nate feels that he is missing out on a "good" holiday with Severus because he is expected to visit his father, Penelope cannot seem to convince Percy to pick up where they left off and Harry is perplexed by something Luna says about Percy and the way Ginny is behaving around her brother. Plus, has someone followed Harry Potter's son to the Isle of Wight?

Harry's old nemeses keep popping up: when Tilda's honor is impugned by the first one, Julian performs accidental magic in a very public place; the second one appears while Nate is at the bookshop with "Percy," who is behaving strangely; and the third presents herself at Snape's wedding, making Ginny feel like she wants to disappear. But Harry has no idea that the worst is sitting in a house in Wiltshire, planning to steal Harry's son's magic...and only the "butler" can stop it. Maybe. I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together...

Percy manages to discreetly sow dissension in the ranks. Harry finally goes to Parvati in an attempt to regain the memory he lost when he was sixteen--only discover that he may need to do something that is abhorrent to him to avoid dire consequences. The only other problem, other than the fact that he doesn't WANT to do it, is that he may not actually be able to. But first, it's time for a big family gathering at The Burrow, which does not go as planned...

Neville discovers the Draco has escaped from Azkaban as the other parents of the kidnapped children attempt to formulate a rescue plan. Teddy, however, doesn't think Harry would have waited for someone else to save him and starts to take matters into his own hands...

Neville tells everyone something they already know. Meanwhile, Draco knows that they know where to go to get the kidnapped children but they do not know that he knows that they know. Draco finds that he doesn't know Pansy as well as he thought and she doesn't know the real reason he suspects her; Percy knows that she thinks she knows but he knows that she doesn't really know. Teddy wonders whether Nate has ever really known his father and all of the children want to know more about the secret they didn't previously know was in the drawing room where they are being held, in a house whose owners they think they know. You know?

It seems that Crabbe, Goyle and the boys have no chance of overcoming Zabini; Percy confesses to Pansy and Draco that he's known who he really is for some time and is no longer deluded that he is a Muggle called Weatherby; Percy also learns that Penelope has come to try to rescue the boys, but they both resign themselves to possibly dying for their sons instead.

After Teddy, Nate and Julian leave the Malfoy home there is a joyous reunion on the lawn, but the advent of Zabini, in Shacklebolt's custody, brings some revelations about what was really going on that are utterly unexpected by everyone, especially Narcissa and Draco Malfoy, who also learns why his mother was trying to keep him apart from Pansy for so many years. When the children try to tell the story of what happened to them another unexpected thing happens, and Harry is desparate to make certain that everyone will be all right. Finally, Harry tries to reassure Teddy by telling him about how he defeated Voldemort and why the truth isn't in any of the history books.

But after life returns to normal, on the eve of Harry's thirty-second birthday, Moody's ghost abruptly starts behaving strangely, followed by Harry suddenly receiving a cryptic phone call...
