CHAPTER 1

Learning to Breathe

At number four Privet drive, things were as worse as ever. Aunt Petunia was bustling about because Dudley was supposedly inviting a 'young lady' over, and she wanted to make everything perfect, just like his birthday. Everyone was blaming Harry, as usual, for everything, so they just told him to go to his room, which he didn't mind at all. It was the only place he could relax.

While he was in his room, he was falling asleep, but just as he was closing his eyes an owl started scratching quietly at his window. Harry sighed heavily, and heaved himself to open the window. The bird immediately flew to Hedwig's cage, and stole a treat. Harry hurried over to him, so he won't make much of a fuss. He skillfully untied the parchment letter, off of the owl's leg, and opened it.

Dear Harry,

I have some bad news for you. Since You-Know-Who has risen last year, there had been so many raids. You were supposed to stay the rest of the summer, but the Burrow was raided. Dad is looking into it, and trying to fix everything, but I'm afraid Ginny and I don't have anywhere to stay. You know-Percy is off and married Penelope, and has his own house, which mum and dad are staying. You know Fred and George have their business. I know this would be difficult, but we need you to ask the Muggles if we can stay there, only for a week or so, until the house is repaired fully, and all our possessions are back. Hermione said we couldn't stay there because she's going with her parents on vacation to Tahiti or something. The Leaky Cauldron is full as well. Please Harry. After our house is fixed, you could stay the rest of the summer. I swear we wouldn't be much bother. Right now we're at the Ministry and we used one of their owls. Send him back with the reply please. His name is Float. Not to sound desperate, or cheesy, but you're my only hope.

Sincerely,

Ron

Harry mentally smacked himself in the head. He knew that the "Muggles" as Ron put it, would never let any witches and wizards in their household, let alone any of his friends. He would try though, even though he knew the answer. He didn't want Ginny and Ron to go homeless or something. He threw a treat to Float, and hurried downstairs to talk to Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon.

"Uncle Vernon?" Harry said quietly.

"What?" Vernon grumbled.

Harry swallowed, and allowed himself to talk, "These people-er-my friends. They're homeless for the time being, and I was wondering if we can take them in for...a week or so?"

"No."

"Uncle Vernon, I'm their last hope. And once everything is settled at their house, I could stay with them, for the rest of the summer, like always."

"Exactly how long would they be staying?" Vernon grumbled.

"A week or two. I'm positive they won't bug you about food of anything else. They would be out of your way."

Aunt Petunia finally spoke up, "What exactly are these ones names?"

"Ron and Ginny Weasley. They're siblings."

"A girl?!" Aunt Petunia screamed.

Harry thought, oh no! A girl, with boys in the house!

"I would love to have another female around here! Goodness! Even if she's one of your people, I just can't stand being the only woman in the house any longer! I'm all for it!"

"Well then," Vernon mumbled, "If Petunia says yes, then I suppose I agree. But we will be expecting extra cleaning and cooking, mind you."

"Certainly."

Harry excused himself to his room to write to Ron. He quickly wrote a letter and sent it immediately. Not even twenty minutes later, Harry was frightened by Ron and Ginny knocking on his window. He opened the window, and he was surprised. They climbed into the house from a little wooden board, with a Goblin driving it with some sort of map. Ron waved the Goblin off, and it disappeared

"What was that all about?" Harry asked curiously.

"Oh," Ginny said, "It's a secret from the Ministry. We can't tell you."

Harry nodded.

"I haven't seen you in ages, Gin."

"Not really. It just seems ages." They both smiled

Ginny looked different somehow. Maybe it was makeup. She was wearing makeup. Her hair was a bit longer, and she had less freckles. She looked, in fact, lovely.

"How have you been Ron? Talked to Hermione?"

Ron flushed at the name.

"Okay, what happened?" Harry smiled.

"Er-nothing...nothing." But the glint in his eyes betrayed him, and Ginny started giggling hysterically.

"Hermione asked Ron out."

"WHAT?!" Harry's eyebrows flew up, practically hiding in his bushy hair.

Ron turned scarlet red.

"Now," Ginny stated, "She is Ron's girlfriend."

Ron now turned beet red.

"Well, I suppose it's not that shocking anymore. It was so obvious. By the way, Gin, my aunt wants to meet you, since you're a girl. Let's go introduce you all."

Harry, Ginny, and Ron all went downstairs to find a girl at the table with Dudley, Petunia, and Vernon. Vernon eyed them, so they went back upstairs.

"I suppose he didn't want to meet you now, then." Harry rolled his eyes, and sat on his bed. Everyone else followed

"Where is the bathroom, Harry?" Ron spoke up, finally.

"Uh, down the hall, to the left."

Ron raced out the door, leaving Ginny and Harry alone.

"So, are you in a relationship or anything?"

"Um, well, I am kind of..."

"With who?"

"Um...you wouldn't believe me." Ginny blushed.

"Of course I would."

"You'll see at Hogwarts, Harry."

Harry shrugged, and Ron came back. He sat down beside Harry, and sighed heavy.

"So, this is it."

"Yep. This is it."

Harry had to admit, that Ginny was looking good this year. It was as though he was learning to breathe, since he could barely around her now. She was so beautiful. He knew that she once had somewhat of a crush on her, but does she now? She said he was sort of in a relationship with someone, but whom?
