Chapter Six: The Miss of a Kiss

~*~

"Where do you think they could be?" Lily asked, while they checked yet another EMPTY classroom.

Remus and James shrugged but Sirius said, "They're probably snogging somewhere." Lily, James, and Remus all turned around and attempted to smack Sirius.

"Hey," he yelled, as he put his hands over his head to protect himself. "You guys are way too over-protective." Just then they heard talking coming from the next room.

"That's the Marauders Hang Out! I thought only you could open that place, James?" Remus asked.

James fidgeted slightly. He hadn't told the others how it was only him that could open the room, just that he could. Harry would obviously be able to because of what James was and it would be in his blood.

"Let's go check it out," he said. They walked over and peered inside and saw Kat and Harry talking.

"You mean to tell me, that you just found this place?" Kat was saying, looking around the beautiful room.

"Yup," Harry said, smirking at her awed look. "At the beginning of the year. It wasn't even on the Marauders Map."

"How did you find it?" she asked in awe.

"Well, I was up in the Astronomy Tower -" he began before Kat interrupted.

"With a girlfriend?" she asked trying to sound casual, the same way Remus had. Harry's cheeks went pink.

"No!" he said. And then he started to smirk. "Why? Are you jealous?"

"No!" she said. "Why would I be jealous?"

He shrugged, "It was worth a shot. Anyway," he continued. "I was coming back from the Astronomy Tower when I sort of just stumbled in here by accident. I told Ron and Hermione about it and when they tried to open the Portrait they couldn't. Weird, huh?"

"Yeah," Kat said slowly. "Wait! The portrait that guards this room is of Godric Gryffindor, right?" Harry nodded slowly. "And there are four secret places that each Hogwarts founder built, right?" he nodded again. "And only there true heir can open them, right?" nod. "Well, maybe you're Gryffindor's heir! And this is his room."

"I think you've finally lost it," he said.

"No, she hasn't," James whispered, not able to help it. The others looked at him.

"You mean he is Gryffindor's heir? But that would make you Gryffindor's heir," Sirius whispered uncertainly. James nodded and they started listening again.

"I have not lost it," she said indignantly. "And what proof do you have that what I'm saying isn't true, hmmm?"

Harry paled dramatically and said, "I-I c-can't t-t-tell you," Kat eyed him with concern.

"Oh, come on Harry," she said, smiling. "It can't be that bad. Just tell me!"

Harry sighed and said, "You promise you won't judge me?"

"Judge you?" she asked disbelievingly. "Harry James Potter you know I don't judge people!"

"Okay, okay." He took a deep breath. "I'maParselmouth," he mumbled this so fast that no one but Kat and Remus heard him. (A/N: Werewolves, remember? Good hearing.)

"What did he say? I couldn't hear him," Lily asked Remus.

"He's a Parselmouth," Remus said in awe. James, Sirius, and Lily all looked shocked.

"Y-your a what? I'm sorry. I must have heard you wrong," Kat said, laughing nervously. "I thought you said Parselmouth."

"I did." He said regretfully. "When Voldemort tried to kill me and the curse backfired, he accidentally transferred some of his powers to me."

"But your not related to him are you?" she asked, and you could hear the slight disgust in her voice. He shook his head. "Well, then there's no proof that you can't be Gryffindor's heir."

"Okay," he said. "Have it your way." They were standing right in front of each other and their lips were getting closer.

"I will," she whispered. Their lips were almost touching. They were a centimeter apart. Kat's eyes drifted shut. Just then Harry seemed to come back to his senses and took a step back, bringing Kat back to reality.

"We should...uh...get going," he said awkwardly. "We want to make sure Peter gets the Veritaserum before you and Remus have to go to the Shrieking Shack," he was staring at the floor and shuffling his feet awkwardly.

"Yeah," she said. "I'll catch up with you, okay? I got to do something first."

"Okay," he said, walking out of the room. Kat leaned against the wall and watched his retreating back with a dreamy expression.

When Harry was out of earshot she said, "I suppose Marauders don't know how to mind their own business?" The Marauders stepped out of the shadows, looking bashful.

"How did you know it was us?" Lily asked.

Kat smiled at her, "I could sense you."

"Oh yeah," said James. "We forgot."

"I told you they were snogging," said Sirius, a wide smirk on his face. Lily smacked him. "Ow!"

"We weren't snogging," Kat said.

"Oh? Then why do you have that dreamy expression on your face, Young Lady?" Remus asked, trying to sound stern.

Kat's face went pink, "I was...uh...t-thinking."

"Yeah right," Remus said disbelievingly.

"Come on, we have to get to Dumbledore's office," Kat said, changing the subject. "The only problem is, I don't know where it is."

"Follow us," James said. "We've been there so many times we could get there with our eyes closed."

"Are you mad at me? What am I saying of course you are," Remus said to Kat carefully avoiding her eyes.

"No, I'm not mad at you," she replied, smiling at his shocked face.

"W-what? But I said all those horrible things and - and - " he was struggling to find the right words.

"Don't worry about it," she said, waving a hand impatiently. "I know you didn't mean it. Most people don't think about having kids at the age of fifteen," she paused and her face got a pained expression. "And anyway, I'm sort of used to it. My parents used to say that kind of stuff."

"What were your parents like?" asked Sirius curiously.

"They were - " Kat broke off trying to find the right words. She started over again, "My mother was sixteen when I was born so she was never a very good mother. She was always thinking about school or her next boyfriend. She never had time for me. When she graduated she was engaged to this really awful guy who hated kids, especially me and he was old enough to be my grandfather. They got married and he moved into our house and the rest is history," there was a shocked silence at the end.

"What about your real father?" James asked, as he led them down another corridor.

"They met at a pool party. It was a one night stand," she replied with a strong bitterness in her voice. There was another shocked silence as they turned a corner and came face to face with Malfoy.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't the new little mudblood," he said, smirking at her. "Why were you talking to yourself, mudblood? Do you have little imaginary friends?" he now had her pinned against the wall and Sirius, James, and Lily were trying there best to hold Remus back, because one of Malfoy's hands had made it's way to Kat's waist, maybe a bit lower. "You know," Malfoy continued. "You're a very pretty mudblood."

"Am I?" Kat replied seductively, as his other hand caressed her cheek and he nodded. "Your not so bad either, you know? I thought all Slytherin's were foul looking and evil, but I guess I was wrong," she leaned in as if she were going to kiss him and at the last moment kneed him in the Forbidden Zone. He gasped and stumbled back in pain and the Marauders burst out laughing.

"You bitch!" he gasped.

"Yeah, well, Malfoy, that's your problem. Oh and just a little reminder: If you want to still have your balls by the end of seventh year, you had better learn how to appreciate other peoples personal space," she replied coolly. With that said she walked off quickly with the Marauders following.

"Where did you learn that?" asked Sirius, laughing.

"Oh that?" said Kat, referring to what she just did. "It's just a little trick I picked up from Sandy. 'Seduce your enemy first, and then go in for the kill.'"

"Sandy?" asked James. "Sandy O'Brien?"

"Was that her maiden name?" asked Kat.

"Maiden name?" asked Remus, sounding panicked. "You mean she's married?"

"Yeah," she replied slowly, giving Remus a sideways glance. "Why?"

"Sandy is Remus' girlfriend," Sirius said. "He's completely head-over-heels for her."

"The guy she's married to must be very lucky," said Remus, looking at the floor gloomily.

"Oh, I wouldn't say that," Kat replied, glancing slyly at him. "But besides the other facts, he's very lucky, indeed."

"What does she go by now?" asked Lily.

"What do you think?" she asked, smiling a mysterious smile.

"You mean she married me?" asked Remus in amazement. Kat nodded.

"Way to go, Moony!" said Sirius, thumping him on the back. They turned another corner and came to a halt at a stone gargoyle.

"Now all we have to do is figure out the password. It's usually a candy," James said to Kat.

"Hmmm... let's see. Chocolate Frogs?" Kat asked the Gargoyle. It remained still.

"Sugar Quills?" Lily asked. Nothing.

"Cockroach Clusters?" Sirius asked. Still nothing.

"Exploding Bon Bon's?" asked James. Once again nothing happened.

"Blood Pop's?" Remus asked. The gargoyle didn't move but Sirius, James, and Lily looked at him. "What? There good!"

"You know, he does have a point," Kat said. "They are pretty good."

James shook his head, "Let's see... what else is there? Hmmm...Ice mice?" still nothing.

"Oh, come on, already! Just open up, will you?" Sirius near yelled. It still did not move and Sirius growled in frustration. Lily's eyes suddenly lit up.

"Oh well," she said, making the others look at her. "I guess this Gargoyle isn't smart enough to understand what we're saying," the others suddenly caught on to what she was trying to do and started playing along.

"Yeah," said Kat in false disappointment. "It's a pity too," she continued. "I read that all Gargoyles were really smart. I must have read it wrong."

"Yeah," agreed Sirius. "It would take a real genius of a Gargoyle to open that door." They started walking off slowly, hoping that there plan was working. And just as luck would have it after a few seconds the Gargoyle stepped aside revealing a set of stairs leading to two large oak doors at the top (A/N: Thank-You Undercover Kid! It's the movie where I got this idea from :p). They ran inside muttering a quick 'thanks' to the Gargoyle.

When they reached the top of the stairs they saw Remus, Sirius (in human form), and Harry waiting outside the doors.

"Hi," Kat said. "What's going on?"

Sirius turned from where he was trying to listen through the door to answer, "They're giving Pettigrew the Veritaserum and questioning him at the moment. Then we get to go in there and chew him out one last time while they go for the Dementor. If he's found guilty - and he better be, too - they'll give him the Dementor's Kiss." (A/N: I find the Dementor's Kiss rather inhuman justice, but given who Pettigrew is I'll just have to live with it.)

"Oh, he'll be found guilty. Trust me on that one," said Remus gravely.

"How long has it been?" James asked.

"Half an hour," replied Remus sounding a bit inpatient.

"But it seems like forever," Sirius exclaimed. "I swear if he's let off the hook, I'll Avada Kedavra him myself!"

Remus scowled at him, "You tried that already, and it didn't turn out very well, did it? All you ended up with were twelve dead muggles, a seemingly dead Peter Pettigrew, and a life term in Azkaban. So, if I were you I wouldn't go trying anything."

"Spoil sport," Sirius muttered, frowning in mock disappointment.

Just then the door opened and Dumbledore, Fudge, and Snape (who looked just as ugly and sour as ever) walked out.

"Well, Mr. Black," said Fudge, with a hint of disappointment in his voice, "It seems you were telling the truth, you weren't the Potter's secret-keeper. We are going to go call for the Dementor now so you are free to speak to Pettigrew if you wish to do so." With that said Dumbledore and Snape (with a slight sneer crossing his lips) followed after Mr. Fudge.

"Slimy git," Kat muttered looking after Snape.

"Katrina! Watch your language," Sirius and Remus said at the same time. It sounded as if they had to tell her this very often.

"Whoa," said Moony, finally cutting into the conversation. "Sirius Black telling someone to watch their language? This is new."

Sirius scowled at him then said, "Okay, let's go have a little chat with the Rat, because I'm having an exceptionally good day and once I get in their I'm going to need someone to hold me back from ripping his traitorous little throat out."

Everyone laughed. They turned around and entered the room and what they saw shocked them.
