It was night at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The students were sleeping, except for the rare prefect patrolling the halls. There wasn't a single teacher asleep yet though, it being only 11 o'clock at night. However, in the seventh year boy's dormitory of Gryffindor House, one student was left lying awake.

"Fred?"

"What?"

"Are you awake?"

"George, what do you think? Aren't I talking to you?"

"Well, yes."

"There you have it then. Now, what do you want this late at night?"

"I was just thinking-"

"Don't make a habit of it."

"Really, Fred. This is serious!"

"Who knew the Weasley twins were allowed to be serious? I was under the opinion that we didn't know how to go five minutes without cracking a joke."

"Fred, what would life be like if we didn't have each other?"

An astounding silence filled the dorm, the only sound being the faint snoring coming from the direction of Lee Jordan's bed. Neither of them were asleep, and they both knew it. Fred Weasley began to get worried about his twin brother George.

"Fred, I know what you're thinking. I'm not going to kill myself and I don't believe anybody's going to kill you." Before Fred could answer, Lee sat up.

"Will the two of you PLEASE be quiet!!!? I want to SLEEP, damnit! Go downstairs to the common room if you're going to talk!"

"But what about McGonagall?"

"She's patrolling the third floor tonight, George. Now leave me in peace," Lee said impatiently.

Fred and George got up from their beds. They put on their Weasley sweaters, and left the room. They walked down the winding staircase to the Gryffindor common room. George took his customary place at the chessboard by the window, and Fred sat down on the chair facing the fire.

"What do you mean, if we didn't have each other?" Fred asked suddenly.

"If we weren't GredandForge. If we were like our other brothers, like Ron and Percy," George responded.

"What about Bill and Charlie?"

"They're so close, it's like they're twins themselves."

"Aha!" Fred exclaimed. "So that's what this is all about! You wonder what our lives would be like if we weren't twins."

"Exactly."

"Well, for one thing, you wouldn't be the pair of 'human Bludgers' the Quidditch team holds so highly," said a female voice from the staircase.

Angelina Johnson walked out from her spot behind the wall into the common room, gazing at George solemnly.

"Angel!" Fred exclaimed. He walked over to her, gave her a kiss, and escorted her to the chair in front of the fire.

"You know, I've always envied you two. It must be so great to have a twin! To have a best friend that's always beside you, who always knows what you're thinking because you and he are one and the same."

"That was a beautiful sentiment, Angel, though I'm perfectly satisfied with one Angelina Johnson. After all, if there were two Angels, how could I get one for myself and keep the other away from George?" Fred asked flirtatiously.

Angelina hit Fred playfully, but one thing led to another and before long, they were snogging passionately. That is, until they got hit with a pillow.

"Get a room!" George exclaimed, bombarding the couple with pillows.

"You're just jealous that Katie isn't as good as my Angel," Fred teased.

"Why, Mr. Weasley, I do believe I'm offended," said another voice from the staircase. Katie Bell emerged from Angelina's prior eavesdropping spot. "Well, well, well. Our favorite couple and MY boyfriend are all...throwing pillows...at each other. Why, George, I didn't think you were one for ménage á trois!" Katie said mischievously. George turned towards Fred, a gleam in his eye.

"Fred," he said, "I know you're not supposed to hit girls. But if that girl is your lovely girlfriend who wouldn't be offended, can you hit her?"

"I guess so," Fred replied, trying to sound like he had no idea what George was talking about, and failing miserably.

Instantly, Katie was hit by a pillow. The four continued to throw pillows back and forth at each other for a half hour or so, finally collapsing on the couches, exhausted.

"So, what are you all doing up anyway? I believe I asked that a while ago but something must have happened. Maybe I was hit by a pillow or something which resulted in a half-hour pillow fight?" she asked.

"No, I doubt it," replied Fred and George at the same time. Angelina reached for a pillow, and Fred ran around to hide behind the chair.

"George, save me! It's the attack of the evil girlfriends!" he screeched. Angelina and George laughed; Katie glared at him as if to say "get on with it!" He came back around to the other side of his chair and sat down again. "You see, Katie, I was lying on my bed trying to fall asleep, and my brother asked me a question. We talked for a bit until Lee kicked us out. We came down here, and Angel followed us. We tried to talk until George hit me and Angeli with a pillow-"

"Only because the two of you started snogging! Then I told the two of them to get a room and kept hitting them with pillows. Fred said that I was jealous and that's where you came in," George finished. Katie laughed.

"Well, I was wondering why the pillows were so far away from the couches and chairs. What were you talking about anyway?"

Well, my wonderful brother-" Katie snorted and Angelina giggled. "As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, George asked me what life would be like for us if we weren't twins. I believe the original words were 'Fred, what would life be like if we didn't have each other?'" Fred remarked, staring at George.

"Why would you even wonder that? Unless-" George cut Katie off.

"I'm not suicidal and I don't want to die. Let's establish that once and for all!"

"Okay, then. But you'll always be twins. You may not always be side by side, but you'll still have that unbreakable twin-bond that all twins have," she reminded them.

"Lee and Alicia!" Angelina exclaimed suddenly.

"Yea, what about them?" asked Fred.

"They're snogging behind the Transfiguration bookcase and eavesdropping on us," she said, walking towards the bookcase with all the Transfiguration books.

"Wrong, Angelina," said Alicia's voice from the other side of the room, "We're behind the Herbology bookcase, and we're not snogging."

"Oh yes we were. Stop denying it, Mrs. High-and-Mighty Head Girl." Lee grinned as he and Alicia walked over to them.

"Gasp!" said George, grinning. "I can see the headlines now. 'Only three days into the new term, the new Head Girl was caught snogging with the Quidditch commentator. It was the middle of the night in the Gryffindor common room and all was quiet...'"

"But all wasn't quiet, George dear. You were down here," Alicia reminded him, laughing.

"Besides, George, what would Fred say if he heard you lecturing the Head Girl about following rules?" Lee asked, turning to Fred.

"Oh, he'd probably say something like, 'Lecturing the Head Girl? Tsk, tsk, George, I think Percy's been a bad influence on you this summer,'" Fred grinned.

"In which case George would reply, 'You asked why I was wondering about twinship. I guess that's why,'" George responded, sadly. Lee and Alicia nodded, remarking that they already knew what George was talking about. They had been eavesdropping since the Great Pillow Fight.

"Well, I know one thing's for sure," said Lee, a grin on his face.

"What's that?" asked Angelina. Lee's grin got brighter.

"While friends are great, best friends are better. And I think we have one of the greatest friendships right here between the six of us, and nothing will ever change that."

"Wow, Lee," said George, astounded. "That was... profound. Who would have guessed that Jordan knew how to be serious?"

And with that, another pillow was picked up, and the Great Pillow Fight resumed, a binding friendship getting stronger.
