Change of Hearts

Chapter 12

It was the end of their relationship. They'd had one last screaming match at breakfast in front of the entire school, with a few choice words that should probably not have been said. Harry refused to speak to Draco after that, despite Draco's many failed attempts. Hell, Harry wouldn't even look at him.

He'd cried to Hermione the first second he'd been able.

"What's wrong, Harry," she asked after he'd come back from Dumbledore's office that night.

He told her everything, bursting into tears with the first sentence: Draco betrayed me.

Besides, it was easier to believe that he'd been behind it all along. All of the facts pointed to it, after all. One, Draco did not object to his father's praise. Two Draco insisted on going to Hogsmeade. Three, things had been different since Draco had gone home for Christmas.

And hey, it wouldn't be the first time a Death Eater had told him the truth.

Meanwhile, Draco wouldn't talk to anyone. The story of Hogsmeade had leaked out and everyone believed what Harry did: that he was responsible for Pansy's death and that Harry should have never trusted, never loved Draco Malfoy. They went back to their Malfoys are evil, Malfoys are dangerous, you cant trust them, they're all the same.

How could he prove his innocence though? He knew the odds were against him, even he couldn't hide the fact that he pestered Harry into agreeing into going to Hogsmeade.

It seemed only one person believed him.

After telling the headmaster the story six times, Harry and Draco saying the same thing with the exception of Draco's innocence, the man formed his opinion and kept it to himself, leaving Draco to hope for the best, yet expect the worst. So far, neither had happened.

But he had to have Harry. Needed him back. He loved him too much for his own damn good. He needed a plan....

Harry walked into the Great Hall and saw the colors red and gold decorating it.

Funny, he thought joining Hermione and Ron at the Gryffindor table. When Cedric died, the Hall was decorated in black.

After the food was eaten (Harry had barely touched his plate) Dumbledore stood to address the school.

"Another year, gone, and with it, the life of a student.

"Many of you knew Pansy Parkinson, I myself had the pleasure of meeting her several times, as she was a Slytherin Prefect.

"Regretfully Mrs. Parkinson was murdered late Friday night while saving the life of Harry Potter. Why she did this, I personally do not know. But I believe at least one person here does..."

Harry allowed himself to look over to the Slytherin table and let his gaze land on his ex. All he wanted was to hold him again, to kiss him one last time, but no. No, he couldn't. Not now, not ever. Draco Malfoy was now apart of his already horrid past. That love was dead. And no matter how much Harry wanted to resurrect it, he wouldn't.

"...Now, onto the House Cup. As you look around, you will notice the colors of the evening are red and gold. Gryffindor colors.

"Gryffindor wins the House Cup for the sixth year in a row with five-hundred and twenty-seven points.

"Slytherin places second with four-hundred and ninety-three total points. Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tie for third with four-hundred and fifty-nine each. Congratulations, all of you! Good luck next year.

"Also, in closing as I'm sure you are all anxious to see your families again, enjoy your summer, and come back to a few surprises next year.
