Loony Revelations

"What about you, eh? Neville?"

Five boys sat gathered round a mound of sweets in the sixth year Gryffindor dormitory. They were currently playing the muggle game Truth or Dare.

"Truth or Dare, Neville?" demanded Dean.

"Um...Truth?" Neville replied, blinking nervously.

"Okay then! Now... Truth for Neville Longbottom... Just think of all the possibilities, guys! What should we ask him, then?" Dean said, rubbing his hands gleefully.

Ron laughed and shrugged his shoulders. "Dunno, mate! Any ideas, Seamus? Harry?"

Harry grinned and shook his head. "Nope."

"I got one!" announced Seamus.

"Great! What is it then?" Dean said, impatiently.

A bead of sweat trickled down the side of Neville's face.

"Keep your hair on, Dean!" Seamus rolled his eyes at the others.

"Come on!"

"Okay, okay. Well, Neville... Who is your secret crush?"

Dean groaned. "Is that the best you can come up with? That's pathetic!"

Seamus answered by lobbing a pillow at Dean's head.

"Hey!" roared Dean, throwing one back. A pillow war broke out between four of the five boys. They were so busy whacking each other, they didn't realise Neville attempting to sneak out...

"Longbottom! You can't get away with it that easy!" shouted Seamus as Neville reached the door. He tried to bolt out, but was stopped by Dean, who dragged him back into the middle of the room.

"Come on, Neville! Don't make me get Ginny on you!" Dean threatened.

Neville sighed and sat down. "You're not getting anything out of me!"

Dean raised an eyebrow and flopped down next to Neville. The others joined them.

"Well, looks like we're going to have to guess!" laughed Harry.

"Looks that way!" agreed Ron. Dean nodded his head in agreement.

"Is it Hermione Granger?" questioned Seamus. Ron's ears flushed red.

Neville shook his head and Ron breathed out a sigh of relief.

"It better not be my Ginny!" said Dean, grinning. Ron's whole face burned a dangerous shade of red. Harry's eye twitched furiously.

"No!"

Ron turned back to his original colour and Harry rubbed his eyes. "Who then?" asked Ron.

Neville paled. "No one! I don't fancy anyone, honestly!"

"Oh, come off it, Neville!"

"Yeah, we've known you for almost six years! We know when you're lying!"

Neville wiped his brow.

"Fine! I'll tell you... Just don't go shouting your mouth off! Any of you!" he finally said, eyeing Ron in particular.

"What are you looking at me for?"

Dean, Seamus and Harry fell about laughing.

"Okay, okay! Point taken! I'll keep my big mouth shut, happy?" Ron grumbled.

Neville managed a smile and clapped Ron on the back. "I appreciate it, Ron."

"Are you going to tell us who she is then, Neville?" asked Harry.

"Or he?" added Dean, snickering.

"Oh, very funny! Not!"

Dean rolled his eyes. "Sorry, mate! Just tell us, yeah?"

"Yeah, come on Neville!" added Seamus.

"Luna!" Neville blurted out.

"Excuse me?"

"Huh?"

"Luna?"

"Loony? Loony Lovegood?"

It was then that Neville snapped. He pounced on Dean, inflicting blow after blow upon him. It took the combined effort of Seamus, Harry and Ron to pull him off.

"Ouch! That hurt, you plank!"

Dean was supporting a bloody nose and a swollen lip. Neville glared at him and turned on his heel. Marching down the staircase with his nose in the air, he set off to find Luna...

"Neville!"

Neville groaned and glanced over his shoulder. "What do you want? I'm a little busy right now..."

"Yeah, yeah. Just hold on a second," Ron complained, puffing.

"Look, Neville. I'm sorry about what happened up there... I can't believe you punched Dean!" said Seamus grinning.

"Yeah, that was kind of cool, Neville!" agreed Harry.

"Look, guys, it's really nice of you to say all that but I'm looking for Luna..."

"Really? Wow," Ron said, impressed. It wasn't like Neville to be so brave.

"Can we come?" pleaded Harry.

"We'll be on our best behaviour!" said Seamus.

"Whatever," sighed Neville wearily. "Just don't say anything!"

"Scout's honour!" exclaimed Ron, saluting.

Harry gave Ron and incredulous look and shaking his head said: "Anything you say, Neville!"

No-one noticed that Seamus hadn't said a thing.

Neville walked at a brisk pace, meaning that Seamus and Harry had to jog to keep up. Ron laughed at them and thanked the universe that he had such long legs!

They rounded a corner and there was Luna, sitting on the grass, legs crossed, reading The Quibbler. Upside down. Naturally.

"Hey, Luna!" mumbled Neville softly.

Without looking up Luna replied with a quiet "Hi!"

Neville shifted from one foot to the other nervously. He opened his mouth to say some thing but only managed a sad little squeak. Luna glanced up, gave him a dazzling smile, then returned to her reading. Neville gulped.

Ron and Harry laughed softly as they watched Neville squirm. For Seamus, however, this was just too much.

"Luna, Neville Longbottom is in love with you!"

Neville's mouth dropped open as he stuttered, trying to explain. Ron let out a snort of laughter and was soon rolling around on the floor, clutching his sides. Harry smirked, but felt bad for Neville. So he whacked Seamus round the head.

"Hey!" shouted Seamus, grabbing Harry by the neck.

Ron finally stopped laughing and took in the scene in front of his eyes. Shrugging, he walked off, hands in his pockets, in the direction of the kitchens.

Neville meanwhile was standing rooted to the spot, in front of Luna, who during this had never even lifted her gaze off her magazine.

Harry and Seamus had just finished their little fist fight and where now dusting themselves off.

"Luna Lovegood! Did you hear what I said just then?" Seamus said, waving a hand in front of her face.

"Pardon?" Luna said, dreamily, finally realising that they were still there.

"Neville. Is. In. Love. With. You."

Harry and Seamus shook with silent laughter at the look on Luna's face as she realised what Seamus was trying to tell her. Neville had gone very pale and was swaying slightly.

"Oh. That's nice," stated Luna.

Three mouths dropped open. One turned up into a soppy grin.

Luna smiled up at Neville. Neville smiled down at Luna. She stood up, wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him tenderly.

Then she broke away and drifted off, still clutching her magazine. Neville looked after her, and for a second seemed to have frozen. Then he shook his head and followed after her, a puppy dog expression on his face.

Harry, and Seamus stared after them, shocked. And in the near distance, laughter could be heard coming from Gryffindor Tower. Dean Thomas had witnessed the whole thing and couldn't wait to spread the news.

Eat your heart out, Ronald Weasley, he thought gleefully.
