Chapter 5
Jakkin was in a dark room. There was no way out. Then be heard maniacal laughter, and an evil high pitched voice taunting him. In the center of the large room, he saw a shining orb that shone brightly. Jakkin thought of it as of top importance. He wanted it bad. He really needed it. He cautiously headed towards it. The laughter and taunting increased in pitch. He was a yard away from the orb now. He reached for it--
"Jakkin! JAKKIN!! Wake UP!!" Jakkin suddenly snapped out of his dream, and looked up. He was in the hospital wing, and in the bed next to him, Dean Thomas was snoring loudly. He looked up to see Harry staring down at him, accompanied by Ron and Hermione.
Jakkin scrunched up his face confused, "What's going on? What time is it? How'd I get here?" The questions came out in a steady flow.
"Hey cool it you big bloke," Ron said, somewhat amused, "For starters, you had a fight with Malfoy, who, since last year still thinks he is on the Inquisitor squad or something, and still has the power to take away points. Next, you were murmuring in your sleep, and reached you hand out, as if to grab me. And last, YOU MISSED THE QUIDDITCH MATCH LAST SUNDAY!! You promised you'd make it, but noooo, you had to go and get yourself cursed, by the accursed Malfoy! You should've seen us pound Hufflepuff!"
Jakkin stared at the redhead for a second. "Ooooookay," He muttered, "By the way, what time is it?"
Hermione shot Ron a disgusted look for his yelling, and answered, "Oh it is Wednesday, and about two-thirty in the afternoon. And we wanted you to know that we solved that riddle, we picked up that piece of parchment you dropped when Malfoy knocked you out, and sort of... I mean, I solved it," She grinned, and added, "Oh, and don't worry Malfoy is serving detention with one of Umbridge's old quills from last year." She smiled even broader.
"Ya," added Harry, "We wanted to let you know that we won't go after this mysterious second clue without you. Madam Pomfrey, you know how fussy she gets, well, she wants you to rest about two hours after you woke up."
"Oh," groaned Jakkin as he sat up, "So this is how I get welcomed to the Harry Potter gang? Wake up in the hospital wing, while you guys went through all the trouble solving that riddle without the help of little ol' me? What should I think?" Nonetheless, Jakkin was grinning like an idiot, "I think I will try to sneak out of this bloody place when Madam Pomfrey turns her back. By the way, how did Dean Thomas there turn out? Guessing he took those spells that got pass me."
As if on cue, Dean started to come to, and his eyes fluttered, trying to make up weather to stay closed, or wake up. "All right there guys?" He asked, turning to the group by Jakkin's bed. Without waiting for an answer, he was snoring again.
"Well, looks like he's okay huh? I mean a few days with only two simple spells in the face? Who wouldn't be okay? I guess he is just here so he doesn't have to do lessons. No wait, I forgot, he had his memory erased." Ron said in distaste. "Anyways, see you later, tomorrow perhaps, c'mon guys, I'm famished, that homework can really get to you. See you later Jakkin!" The others said their goodbyes, and left for the Great Hall.
That night, Jakkin was in that room again. There was no way out. Then he heard maniacal laughter, and an evil high pitched voice taunting him. In the center of the large room, an orb shone brightly. Jakkin thought of it as of importance. He cautiously headed towards it. The laughter and taunting increased in pitch. He was a yard from the orb now. He reached for it--
The next day, Jakkin was dozing in Professor Binns' lecture on the Goblin Revolts of '47. He was sitting by Harry, who was doodling on a piece of parchment, and Ron, who was between Harry and Hermione, who had his face down on his parchment that was meant to take notes, but was now serving as a pillow. Hermione rolled her eyes at the three boys, and took up her quill again, and started back on her own notes, knowing that they would want a look at them for homework, not really worried about Jakkin, who was known for good grades, for someone that dozes of in most every class. No one has figured out his secret for almost perfect grades yet. Just about the only class he pays attention in is Defense Against the Dark Arts--just like Harry. He was like Harry's double or something. Hermione went back to notes, not paying as much attention to Professor Binns as usual, thinking about the Jakkin and Harry connection.
History of Magic class finally let out, with 13 inches of an essay as homework, and Jakkin, Harry, Hermione, and Ron headed to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. The new professor was none other than the potions master, Severus Snape. He had finally managed to get the position that he has always wanted... without losing the position of potions master. Hermione told the other three that she suspected that he had a time device, something like the hourglass that Hermione used to take the extra classes three years ago when they helped Sirius Black, the Prisoner of Azkaban. At least everybody did better than in potions, due to the D.A (Dumbledore's Army) efforts, led by Harry last year.
They entered the classroom about five minutes early, and were chatting with there with their fellow classmates, when the door slammed, and Snape stalked in. He started with the usual, "There will be no foolish wand waving, or excess language in this class..." When he was finished, he tapped the blackboard, and said, "Today we will be learning the Entarpatinesco jinx, and practicing its counter curse. Words appeared on the blackboard when he tapped it with his wand, giving precise directions to performing the jinx. "You may find how basic this jinx is, and also how much damage it can do if conducted properly... unless of coarse, there are some of you who think of yourselves as better than everyone else for reasons that you may not tell."
Jakkin could've sworn that his eyes swept on every member that was in the D.A present in the room. He cast a long, cruel look at Jakkin, passing his eyes from Harry to him. In his low, threatening voice, he continued, "You will pair up, and practice this jinx for half an hour. One of you does the jinx, and what shall we say, the other, the counter jinx." His eyes suddenly flew to Seamus Finnigan, who was sitting behind Jakkin, and was whispering to the person sitting next to him, "Mr. Finnigan, if you would so kindly tell the whole class what you were saying to your friend? No? Then 5 points from Gryffindor." Snickers and low
