----------------The Fat Muggle, Ten Years Later. chapter sixteen, "Brains against Brawn"-----------------

Hermione had been sitting in her office for two hours, feeling absolutely terrified.

Every single one of her friends, her true friends, may not come back alive from fighting some horrible ghost from their past.

During all her years as Minister of Magic, she had always been near the only love she'd ever felt, believing he hated her for something an even older ghost did to them, and it had made her build a wall of coldness and all things that was her proffession.

But she had secretly loved every step she saw him take, every breath she heard him draw, and now one of those true friends told asked her what the hell she'd been doing and why she just didn't swallow that stupid pride of hers and come clean.

She did, and her wall broke down all in one big, loud crash!

And she'd never felt better since the day he'd asked her on a date in Hogsmeade.

But now he may die, without letting them have the chance to make up all the years they had lost.

Because of some old ghost.

Hermione was truly scared for her sanity on this midday in August, and the few times she'd wondered if she would ever end up a nutty old witch that lived alone with her insanity in some old cave somewhere, she always thought it would happen when she was old and weak.

Not when she was twentyseven years old, and surely not because an old ghost had killed her only love and all of her friends.

So there she sat, in the colourless light streaming through the window of her messy office, and feared.

Remus broke down the door with a strength enhancing spell and Neville and Harry quickly ran up the narrow passage.

They hadn't gotten far when Harry was hit in the stomach with a ray of yellow light that sent him all the way back outside, back in the snow.

He wasn't knocked out and he, strangely enough, noticed the sun breaking through the clouds even thought the snow was still coming down pretty heavy in big, round flakes and the wind had almost come to a complete stop.

"Try to sneak up on me, are you?!?!" Malfoy's voice rang in their ears as he levitated Remus and Neville outside and slammed them both against an oak tree.

Remus lip cracked and the blood shot out over the white snow.

Neville was quite sure he'd broken a rib when he landed dangerously close to a large rock that looked like it would have finished off anything thrown at it.

Harry quickly got on his feet and hurled four spells at Malfoy at random and for some reason his head was playing 'The show must go on' by Queen, but to a much wilder beat.

He jumped over a fallen treelog and dodged a spray of firey sparks that shot from Malfoy's wand.

Malfoy was screaming like a madman laughing at the rain, and Neville noticed the wind started picking up in speed the higher Malfoy's scream sounded.

"Is he doing this? Did Malfoy change the weather? Has he really gotten that powerful?" Neville thought.

Suddenly, Malfoy's scream shifted in character and turned into one of pain.

He fell to his knees, and the wind stopped blowing, and behind him stood Ron in his Werewolf shape and Dudley with his wand, smoking at the tip.

"So you think a simple curse can stop me?" Malfoy said and hit Dudley and Ron superfast, breaking both of their noses.

He turned and eyed the rest of his opponents.

Then he started laughing again, making the wind pick up speed, from two opposite directions, causing a small tornado to form.

Remus couldn't believe what he was seeing and before he knew it, Malfoy had sent the tornado towards him, hitting him hard as if it had been made out of steel!

Remus flew away high in the air and was thrown into the woods!

Harry rushed up to Malfoy and punched him hard in the face, followed by an elbow to the exact same spot, but Malfoy just laughed on and grabbed Harry by the neck, and lifted him untill Malfoy's arm was fully stretched.

"So you came back, Potter? You should have continued running," Malfoy said, eyes blazing in a multitude of colours.

"Oh yeah? Why?" Harry choked and tried to free himself from Malfoy's hard grip.

"Because now you will be the first one to die!!" Malfoy screamed and raised his wand, ready to destroy Harry.

"AVADA KEDAVERA!!!" Neville shouted at the top of his lungs and sent the deadly curse at Malfoy.

It hit him square between the eyes and Malvoy fell to the ground, releasing Harry, and lay still in the snow.

The wind stopped and Neville walked up next to Harry, looking at Malfoy's body with hatred.

"It's over," Neville said and helped Harry up.

"Finally! Let's find Remus and get Malfoy's body to the Ministry," Harry said.

"I don't think so!!" Malfoy flew high up in the air and landed on top of the dungeon ruin!

"What the fuck!?!" they all said in chorus.

Malfoy's nose was bleeding, but other than that he seemed completely unscathed!

"Were you so dumb as to think Wormtail wouldn't give me a counterspell for death!!" Malfoy screeched.

"Why, it is rule number one in the book of 'How to create a God'! Didn't you know that?" Malfoy mocked them.

"What do we do now?" Harry asked as they all ran inside the ruin for cover.

"I don't know! If the killing curse doesn't work, then what will?!?" Ron said frantically.

"We have to destroy him! But if we can't destroy his body, we will have to destroy his mind!" Neville said.

"How?" Harry said.

"By travelling into his mind, telepathically, and finding the one point, the one memory, in which his sanity lies, and remove it, we can turn him into a mindless shell," Neville said.

"But he's already insane! How can you do this?" Ron said.

"Insanity is only another form of conscience! He still has the centerpoint of his being, his soul if you will, and by taking it, we will win!" Dudley said.

They heard the scratching of fingernails, burrowing into stone on the outside of the wall.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are," Malfoy said, not knowing where they had hidden.

"How can you take his centerpoint?" Harry asked.

"We can either borrow it, and harbor it in one of our minds, but that could turn us insane and we wouldn't know who we were, let alone control our telepathy, so the only way we can do this is to destroy it by reshaping the centerpoint into something that is the direct opposite of how it looks," Neville explained.

"Fuck this talking! Get to work, boys!" Ron said.

Neville and Dudley closed their eyes and immediately found Malfoy's mind....and entered it!

On the outside, Malfoy was still searching for them, oblivious to what they were about to do.

Neville's astral shape landed in a memory of Malfoy as a small child, and his mother was telling off a servant in what looked like a kitchen.

Narcissa Malfoy slapped the female servant and Neville felt how Draco's feelings lept in joy as she did so.

He felt how happy the young Draco felt with every slap from his mother.

Neville left the memory and jumped into the next one; Draco was around sixteen and it seemed as if he was experiencing his first sexual encounter!

He was naked and so was the girl in his bed, but she was bleeding from scratch marks on her back and she had a black eye.

It was clear that Draco had hit her!

He moved close to her and she looked scared.

"Get on your hands and knees!!" Draco shouted and the girl did as she was told.

Draco got behind her and was very violent with her and he screamed out in pain.

Neville felt Draco's feelings of total bliss and satisfaction as he hurt this innocent girl.

"I think I know what his goal in life is, now. Can you hear me, Dudley?" Neville shouted into Draco's mind.

"Yes, I hear you. The memory's Iv'e seen are all about violence! And he loves it," Dudley said back.

"I know. I think that is the one thing that he was taught to like and if we find the first memory were he liked the violence, I think that might be the centerpoint! Let's go to work!" Neville answered and began going through memory after memory, one worse than the other.

Neville saw Draco's first Christmas where his favourite present was the house elf he could do what he wanted to; roast him over the fireplace and feed him to the other elves!

Dudley saw the first time Draco had been reprimanded by his father.

Draco couldn't be more than eight and had stolen something in a store in Hogsmeade and gotten caught.

"You never steal so that people can catch you! Do you want to bring shame over you family?!" Lucius yelled and punched Draco hard in the face, but Draco liked it; it was violence.

Neville stumbled over a memory that Draco must have oppressed, because it was very fuzzy and Neville couldn't hear anything, but what happened was plain to see.

Draco was raped by Lucius!

He was young, Neville could make that out, but not how young.

Neville felt how Draco's feelings were uneven and in disarray!

"Dudley! I think I've found it! Come over here," Neville said.

Dudley arrived shortly and was equally disgusted by the fuzzy sight.

"Draco must have oppressed this memory," Neville said.

"No, he hasn't oppressed it! Iv'e seen several ones that looked just like it. He was just too young to rmember all the fine details," Dudley said.

"But I saw one where he was around five years old and that image was perfect!"Neville said.

"Then in this one he must be alot younger than that," Dudley said.

They both felt like killing Lucius Malfoy for what he'd done to this child.

But the really disturbing thing about this memory was the feeling Draco had felt; pleasure!

"Let's destroy this memory now, shall we?" Dudley said.

"Yes," Neville said lowly and they both began re-arranging the image, dressing Lucius and Draco with their mental projections and changing their positions so that it looked like Lucius was just holding Draco on his knee rather than..........

After they had finished they felt how the majority of feelings in Malfoy's mind shifted from lust and joy and all the insanity, to deep sorrow and confusion.

"Let's get out of here!" Neville said and they slammed back into their bodys, meeting Harry and Ron's eyes.

"Did you do it?" Ron said.

"We found a memory which we think was the centerpoint. We didn't destroy it, but we changed it enough so it is a completely new memory that will shake his entire being," Neville said.

"What? How?" Harry asked and noticed that they didn't hear Draco anymore.

"That memory was the beginning of Draco's insanity and the reason for his mental decay! We changed it into something completely different, thereby removing the reason for insanity!" Dudley said.

Harry frowned.

"So...He's not mad anymore?" he asked.

"He is! But he's confused and dazed, and he won't want to fight anymore," Dudley said.

"Come on. Let's go arrest him!" Neville said and they all got on their feet and left the dungeon ruin with mixed feelings.

Was Draco going to kill them? Or was he going to be gentle as a lamb?

"Ron! Find Remus," Harry said, but had barely finished his sentance when Remus staggered out of the bushes, holding his ribs in pain.

Draco was sitting on a ledge about twelve feet up on the ruin and was crying.

"Why is he crying?" Harry asked Neville.

"He's crying for all the times he was abused in his life and never cried. The memory that made that abuse ok, is gone and now he sees it differently. They way it is supposed to be seen," Neville said and levitated Draco down to the ground.

Draco was so overwhelmed with pain, he didn't even recognise who was around him.

"He'll need years of therapy to get over this allm I guess," Harry said and felt how the fear he'd felt for this person, this evil ghost from his past, evaporated and was replaced with pity.

"Ok, let's get out of here!" Ron said and grabbed Draco hard and Apparated, followed by Remus and Harry and finally Dudley and Neville.
