L' Amour

By: Abby Kellogg

"Si on représentait l'amour par un grain de sable, je te donnerai le Sahara."

"If love was represented by a grain of sand, I would give you the Sahara."

The afternoon was very warm, unusually so for a fourteenth of February. The two lovers were strolling slowly hand in hand through the forest behind their home. Their feet left scuffles on the dry, sun-dappled forest floor. The woman looked at their entwined hands. The engagement and wedding rings were prominent on her hand. She would never forget that day...

There was love in his eyes as he looked at her across the church. For the first time in her life she was sure she was doing the right thing. The ceremony passed in a blur, and she said her vows in a happy daze. It seemed that in no time at all she was being kissed by her true love and she was kissing him back. She walked to the porch of the church as if in a dream.

She felt safe in his hold. She looked sideways at her love. He hadn't changed much in the five years of their marriage. Maybe there were a few more wrinkles... It hardly mattered... She loved him with all her heart, which was all that mattered. His hand tightened around hers slightly. She looked up. They had reached a place of ancient memories in their aimless wandering. The ancient bench was there, as if held up by magic. The bench where he had proposed to her. She sighed. He let go of her hand for a few seconds and his arm slid around her shoulders. He led her to the bench. They sat down.

"It doesn't seem like that long ago that we were here and I was proposing, does it?"

"No... But yet it has been six years... So much has changed..."

"I know... I hope that it always stays the same, or at least we stay as happy as we are now..."

She sighed and nestled closer to him breathing in his scent.

"Darling, we really must go back. The children will wonder what I've been doing with you."

"Leave you to ruin a perfectly romantic moment... But I suppose you are right..."

They got up and made their way back to their huge sprawling mansion. The sun was setting in background of the mansion's grounds. The man turned towards his wife and kissed her. She grinned as he released her.

"Hermione, you have no clue how much I love you..."

"I love you too, H-"

She was interrupted by a scream.

"MUM! Leticia is looking at me!"

Hermione sighed. She ran towards to the house rolling her eyes. Her husband watched her run off, laughing. He shook his head and followed her in with a statelier pace. He could hear some crying coming from the nursery. He climbed the long marble staircase. He opened the door to the nursery and saw what was a perfectly hysterical pantomime. Hermione was looking from on to the other of the twins who were both looking like if the end of the world had come.

"All right, what happened exactly, Leticia?

"I was just looking at him, then he knocked my cubes over with his wand and then he cried out for you."

"Kevin?"

"She was trying to curse me, so I took my wand and made her cubes over."

"Leticia, were you really trying to curse Kevin?"

"No."

"Kevin, I never want you to do something like that with out a plausible reason. All right?"

"Yes, Mum."

"Good. Now, dears, come down to the dining room, it's dinner time."
