AN: Hey readers! This is my first ever fan fiction on Lily and James, and I hope you like it. And most of all, REVIEW!!! Thanks ;)
Chapter 1: A Snowy Suspension?
A large tawny owl flew in to the room. One of the occupants screamed, the other, looked more surprised than shocked. Lily got up to catch the owl, but it dropped a small envelope on top of her head. Petunia had rushed out of the room to get her parents, wailing all the way. "Mum! Dad! MUM.DAD!!" Mr. and Mrs. Evans came running from what they were doing.
"What hunny? What happened?" Mrs. Evans asked anxiously.
"Th - there's a - a big OWL in Lily's room!" Both Mr. and Mrs. Evans looked shocked. An owl in the middle of the day was very strange, since everyone knew that owls are nocturnal. They all rushed up to Lily's room, where she was found standing in the middle, holding her envelope. She hadn't realised that her family was there, watching her.
"They know - they know where I sleep?" Lily mumbled to herself. There was no sign of an owl, since Lily did have a large window, which was currently open. Mrs. Evans ran to hug Lily, as Mr. Evans went to check her window.
"What's-what's that in your hand?" Petunia asked shakily. Mrs. Evans looked at the letter. It was addressed to Lily; there was no doubt about that. It clearly stated -
Miss L. Evans
June St. 36
The Third Bedroom
Little Brattis
Surrey
Evidently, she was shocked, along with Petunia, who had come over to take a look.
"David. David - look at this." Mrs. Evans said in a hoarse voice, she handed Mr. Evans the envelope. Her hand was shaking hard. Mr. Evans looked at the address. He then tore open the parcel. Out fell three pieces of parchment. Two bigger than the other. He read the first line of the first paper. The whole room was dead quiet, waiting for Mr. Evans to say or do something.
"Jo, come with me. Girls, stay here." He left, still holding the contents of the envelope, with Mrs. Evans. Petunia was freaked out. She looked at Lily as Lily looked at her. Then Petunia walked out of the room.
A few weeks later, Lily could hardly believe what she had just done. She had walked straight through a solid barrier, or supposedly solid, and was standing in front of a scarlet train on a platform, that she thought didn't even exist. As the wind picked up, Lily's flaming red hair got in the way. She stumbled and tripped over her luggage. She heard some people laugh, and felt her face go red. "First day of school, Lily, and you manage to make a complete fool of yourself." She mumbled to herself.
Someone thrust a hand under her nose. She looked up, startled, her face still red with embarrassment. A boy of her age, with hair that stuck up in odd ways and places, brown eyes, and round-rimmed glasses, that sat up high on his nose - bridge; stood in front of her, with a cheeky grin on his face. She took his hand reluctantly, and he pulled her up. "Hullo." He said.
"Er, hi." Lily said nervously. Before Lily could say or do anything, the boy asked,
"Do you need help with your stuff? I'll help you, if you want."
"Yeah - sure. That'd be very nice of you." The boy beamed. They trudged to an empty carriage and dumped Lily's trunk in a corner. They both sat down with a thump. For a moment they sat, catching their breath.
"Wha - what's in there?" the boy asked huffily.
"Sch - school stuff." Lily replied, breathless. They both sat silently for a while. The boy at last spoke,
"Well, I'd better get going. My friends will be looking for me. Nice meeting you." As he left, Lily called from behind,
"Bye!"
Lily changed into her robes and settled into her favourite Muggle book, The Wind in the Willows. It was getting dark, and the lights were turned on. Someone knocked on her door. She looked up with a start. Someone knocked again. "Coming." called Lily, as she jumped up to the door. In front of her, stood a plump woman with a good-natured face. Her blonde hair was trying to break free, from her hair tie. She smiled at Lily. "Hello dear. Would you like anything from the trolley?"
"Um, yeah sure. What can I buy?" Lily asked timidly.
"Well there are Bertie Botts Every Flavoured Beans, and we also have pumpkin pasties. And we have Chocolate Frogs, oh and we also sell pumpkin juice. But they're only the most popular things we also have other sweets. So what would you like?" Lily took a deep breath, trying to take it all in without getting a headache. At the end, Lily got some Chocolate Frogs, Pumpkin Pasties, with some Bertie Botts Every Flavoured Beans. She figured they must taste good, if they were the most popular things there. So she paid the woman the money (almost forgot to pay in wizard money) and closed the door. She dug into her pasty, realising for the first time on the train, how hungry she really was.
After a while, there was a knock yet again. With half a pasty still in her mouth, she opened the door. There stood a girl, who must've been at least a year older than she was, with flaming red hair, just like Lily's own. She also had a fair few freckles. She was dragging a trunk just like Lily's. "Um, hi! Do you think I could sit with you? It's just that my friends are all being too noisy, and I can't stand it. So do you think it's possible..." she was cut off by Lily, answering
"Sure, comfe onf inf." She spat pasty every where. "Sorry." She moved aside to let the girl in. The girl saw Lily's food on one side and so sat on the opposite side.
"So, what's your name? I'm Molly." She held out her hand and Lily shook it.
"I'm Lily." The two of them talked for ages. Lily offered Molly some pumpkin pasty. But Molly refused saying that she will eat at the Start of Term Feast. Lily explained how Petunia was such a slug, and Molly told her how she was the youngest of three brothers and a sister. Lily was eager to learn about her new school, so they talked for a very long time.
Five minutes before they were due to arrive; a voice was magically drifting into every carriage. "We will be arriving at Hogwarts in a few minutes. Please leave your belongings here, as they will be taken to your dormitories separately. Thank you." Lily felt her stomach tighten. As the Hogwarts Express finally came to a halt, Lily was very nervous. There was a lot of rush to get out. Lily and Molly had to be careful, not to be trodden on by the older years. There was man, holding up a lantern, calling out to the first years.
"All ze first yers, here pleaze!" Molly shouted out to Lily,
"I'll see you inside then!" as she allowed herself to be directed by the force of the other grades towards Hogwarts.
The first years were obviously, nervous. Lily heard a familiar voice "Oi, Sirius. I hear that there's a giant squid living in the lake." The other boy, who was obviously Sirius, answered,
"I wonder if I manage to catch it, whether mum will let me keep it or not." The two kept talking about nonsense. The group came to a halt, as everyone stopped to admire there new home; Hogwarts. They 'ooooohed' and 'aaaahhed'. Then, forced by the man, they moved along the narrow path. A short while later, they stopped in front of a lake. The man told everyone to get into a boat,
"An' no more zan four!" Lily followed three boys into a boat. One of whom, Lily recognised. As Lily stepped in to the boat, it swayed dangerously. Lily sat down quickly. The idea of falling into a lake that held a giant squid was too much for her. And also, she wasn't much fond of water.
Barely any sounds were made as the boats sailed magically towards the castle, as if they were sailing on glass. The school's windows were lit brightly. On one side of the castle, lay a dense forest, with a little wooden hut in front of it. On the other side, was what looked like a large stadium. Its seats rose up high, so the spectators could see clearly. Six hoops rose thirty feet into the air, three on each side. And beyond that, Lily could see some lights, though she couldn't figure out what was there.
The boats bumped gently against the pebbly ground, as they stopped in front of large steps and large, heavy, oak doors. Lily was glad to get out of the boat; she had begun to get seasick. They stood staring at the doors. On of the doors creaked open and a mature woman in her fifties came out. She looked stern, with square glasses, and her hair tied tightly in a bun. She stood there in silence for a moment, peering at everyone, which made Lily feel uncomfortable. "Welcome to Hogwarts. I am Professor McGonagall. Before we go in, I would like to give you a brief of what's about to happen. You will firstly, be sorted in to a house. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Each house has its on amazing history. For the school terms, which you will stay here for, you have the chance to earn your house points. However, any rule breaking will result in your house losing points. At the end of each year, a cup is awarded to the house with the most points. Now please follow me." Shuffling of feet could be heard as the first years climbed the stairs and went through doors and secret wall openings. Fire torches beautifully lighted the hallway. It made the surroundings around them more mysterious and made them more inquisitive. Professor McGonagall led them to a small room. "Wait here. I will come and get you when they are ready." And she turned on her heels and walked swiftly out the door.
After a few minutes of silence, (well almost. They could hear some murmuring, but nobody could make any sense of it because they couldn't hear it properly), they heard applause. Professor McGonagall re-entered the room. She beckoned them to follow her. The first years were led to two doors. As the doors opened, nearly everyone gasped. What lay beyond the doors was too beautiful to describe.
Floating candles lit the beautiful hall. The ceiling was a clear starry night, with not a cloud in the sky. Four long tables were situated at the back, and a long table, obviously set for the staff. Professor McGonagall led them in front of the school, with their backs to the teachers. In the middle was a grubby looking hat. It looked so ancient, that if anyone were to touch it, it would collapse into dust. Professor McGonagall stood next to the hat, holding a long scroll. "Now as I call your name, you will come down and sit here, and place the hat on your head. Okay. Adsent - Erika." A blonde girl walked shakily up to the hat, and placed it on. It slid past her ears covering her eyes, as it was too big for her. She sat there for a moment, when the hat finally shouted out, "RAVENCLAW!" The table second furthest from the doors, (the large ones, where everyone comes in from) applauded loudly, as Erika went to join the table. When the hall was silent once more, the professor continued.
"Acheron - Milcent" A good - natured girl, walked up to the hat. It had barely touched her, when it shouted out.
"HUFFLEPUFF!" This time the table, which was second closest to the door, erupted in cheers. She went and sat quietly, evidently, really shy.
"Black - Sirius." Lily recognised him as the 'squid catcher'. She knew it was a stupid name, but she couldn't help herself. The boy had smooth black hair, which was very bouncy. He went and sat impatiently, drumming his fingers on the inside of the stool. Finally, the hat shouted out
"GRYFFINDOR!" Sirius beamed, as he took off the hat, and went to sit down on the furthest tables from the doors, which was now cheering loudly. "Conrad - Dean."
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
"Dasney - Emerald"
"SLYTHERIN!"
"Evans - Lily." Lily walked nervously up to the hat. She shakily put the hat on her head, which slid past her ears, covering her eyes, like it had done to everyone else. "Hmm. Evans. Very ambitious and determined." Said a little voice insider her head. "Oh, and lots of bravery and courage. Well that settles it then. There's only one place for you and that's, GRYFFINDOR!" Lily took off the hat. She spotted Molly, who had saved a seat for her. Lily grinned broadly, as she shook all the hands of other the Gryffindors. "Hermes - Gregory."
"RAVENCLAW!"
"Issen - Mage."
" HUFFLEPUFF!"
"Kron - May."
"RAVENCLAW!"
"Malfoy - Lucius."
"SLYTHERIN!"
"Pettigrew - Peter." A short, plump boy walked stiffly up to the hat. His sparkling blue eyes, looking around nervously. He placed the hat on, rather harshly, and sat down, covered with goose bumps. Finally, the hat shouted out.
"GRYFFINDOR!" Peter walked to the applauding table situated himself next to Sirius, who now had his fingers crossed.
"Potter - James." The boy, who had helped Lily back at the station, went and placed the hat on, and smiled mischievously as he was being sorted. He didn't even look worried. When the hat shouted out
"GRYFFINDOR!" James sort - of 'glided' towards the Gryffindor table, and sat a seat away from Lily, on the other side, next to Sirius.
"Skarmory - Narcissa." A girl that looked like she had something of tremendous stench under her nose, walked up to the hat. Once again, it had barely touched her, when it shouted out.
"SLYTHERIN!"
"Skeeter - Rita."
"RAVENCLAW!"
"Snape - Severus." James growled at the mention of his name. A boy with greasy hair was walking up to the hat. He placed it firmly on his head. For a moment or so, the hall was quiet. Then suddenly, the Slytherin table erupted in cheers as the boy walked swiftly to the table and sat down on a seat near the ghost. "Thorn - Rose." A few people sniggered as a tall, slender girl, with short, straight black hair, placed on the hat. It took a while, but the hat finally shouted out.
"GRYFFINDOR!" Rose came and sat between Lily and James, as this was the only seat available. She was avoiding every ones' eyes, by staring down at her empty plate. Professor McGonagall rolled up the scroll, and took the four - legged stool and the Sorting Hat away. An old man, with fairly long with grey to white hair stood up. He was wearing half - moon glasses. He had a strange twinkle in his eyes as he spoke.
"Welcome to another exciting year at Hogwarts. I welcome the first years with open arms." He opened his arms widely, nearly knocking Professor McGonagall in the face. "Oh, sorry there Minerva. Yes continuing on, I hope you enjoy your meal. That is all. DIG IN!" As the words left his mouth, the platters in front of everyone filled magically by them selves. They were filled with great and delicious food, of all sorts. Lily started on steak and potatoes, with gravy. She filled her goblet with pumpkin juice and started eating. "Hey Lily! Congratulations! It's a good thing your in Gryffindor, because it's the best house in my opinion. I hope you were okay across the lake?" Molly asked on Lily's right. Lily nodded, as her mouth was too full to talk with. She gulped down some pumpkin juice. She glanced over to her left where Rose was sitting. The girl looked quite shy. She was sitting there quietly, nibbling on her food, not talking to anyone.
"Hello. I'm Lily. What's your name?" Evidently, she had startled the girl, because she looked up, with white face.
"Um...uh. Hello." She replied nervously. "My name is - is Rose." And with that, she turned back on her food. But Lily wasn't discouraged; after all, she did need a friend in a new place like Hogwarts. She couldn't hang around with Molly's friends all the time. Also, Rose didn't seem to know any one either, so it made it really clear what Lily had to do. So she tried again. "So do you come from a wizarding family?" Lily was surprised at herself at how confident she sounded.
"Um . Well sort of. You see my mother is a witch, and my dad is a Muggle. How - how about you?" Lily felt extremely pleased with herself, partially for making a new friend, and partially for making a person feel better. They both talked until the desserts vanished, and the platters, plates and goblets were left sparkling gold like before. The old man stood up once again. Lily learned what his name was from Rose. Albus Dumbledore. "Well I hope you enjoyed the feast. Now off to bed with you. First years follow your prefect to your common rooms. Goodnight!" and he sat back down once again as the hall began to clear.
Lily and Rose met up with the rest of the first years, who were huddled around something. Rose being the taller one, stood up one her toes, to see above the peoples' heads. She gasped and broke into hysterics of laughter. When she had finally calmed down, Lily asked her what the matter was. But before Rose could reply, a dwarf, with a pointy nose and scruffy brown hair came up to them. His light hazel eyes twinkling with anger. Lily's face went red as she tried to keep her face straight. She saw a glistening badge on his chest with the letter 'P' on it. She realised that he was a Prefect.
"You find something amusing about my height?" asked the prefect in an unusually high - pitched voice. "I'll have you know that my father is a giant in the dwarf land. So he is known as the King of Dwarves. Now, no more loitering!" Rose stood up shakily. Her once, straight black hair, now in an incredible mess. She held on to Lily's shoulder, for the fear of falling over with laughter was too great. They (the first years) stopped at a portrait of a fat lady in a pink silk dress.
"Ooh. First years! Oh goodie!" The first years stared at her. Lily realised her mouth was open, so she quickly shut it. She had never seen moving and talking portraits. "Oh. Ahem. Welcome." She said in a dignified voice. "Password?"
"The password for this month is 'mugglewump.' Everybody got it?" came the prefect's shrilly voice. Everyone nodded. They stepped through a large hole in the wall, which the picture had revealed when the password was announced. They stepped in to the common room. There were blazing fire, squashy and comfortable armchairs, some rocking chairs, and tables on the sides to study. "Girls, your dormitories are that way." He pointed to the left as he spoke. "Boys, your dormitories are this way." He pointed, this time, to the right. Now off to bed!" The girls climbed the stairs up the tower to their dormitories. They opened a door labeled 'first years'. Inside was a large room, with five beds, that had red, velvet hangings. Their luggage was already there, beside their beds. The girls changed into their pyjamas. As Lily drifted off into a deep sleep, she could still hear soft snoring from Rose.
Lily woke up the next day felling quite refreshed. The sun shone through the windows, despite the clouds. She got dressed and realised that she was the only one there. She rushed downstairs, jumping two steps at a time. No one was in the common room. As she nearly fell out of the portrait hole, she pulled on her robes. "OH NO! I'M SOOOO LATE!" she wailed all the way to the Great Hall, hoping that nobody would notice her come in.
Rose was eating quietly, not talking to anyone, since Lily was the only person she knew properly. "Hey, can you please pass the butter?" She looked up. A boy with a grin was asking her something, though she didn't understand through all the toast, in his mouth.
"What?" The boy swallowed and repeated.
"Can - you - please - pass - the - butter?"
"Oh - sorry. Here you go." She handed him the butter.
"How come you don't talk much?" The boy asked, spreading butter on his toast. "By the way, I'm Sirius. What's your name?"
"Rose." she replied.
"So are your parents both our kind?"
"Huh? Oh, well my mum's a witch, but my dad's a Muggle. And you?"
"Well I'm a pure blood." Just at that moment, Lily came running in.
"Sor - sorry!" huffed Lily. She was clutching her side. "Slept in." She sat down with a thump next to Rose. Two boys were grinning at her stupidly. "What?!" Lily asked
"You - you." One of the boys began but he didn't get to finish, because he started to laugh so hard, he nearly fell off his chair. However the boy next to him did fall off. His glasses dangling off one ear.
"What?!" Lily asked again. She was getting angry. Rose found the strength to tell her at last. She fought terribly to keep her face straight and her voice steady.
"Um. Lily - you - your robes." But she too couldn't control herself and started banging her hand on the table. Some other peoples' attentions were being diverted towards them. Lily had finally realised what the matter was because she had ripped off her robes. In a rush to get to the hall in time, she had put her robes on inside - out, not to mention backwards. As everyone settled down once more, Lily sat down with a red face. "Well it wasn't that funny. It could've happened to anyone." She mumbled to herself. The boy who had fallen off, got up shakily as he, Rose and the other boy wiped their tears.
After a while, when it didn't seem so funny, Rose introduced Lily to Sirius. "Lily, this is Sirius." She nodded towards a boy with puppy - like hair.
"Hello!" he said cheekily. Lily smiled weakly.
"And this is James. James, Rose and Lily." He nodded towards the girls. Rose smiled as she shook hands with him across the table. They were sitting at the back, so he walked around to shake Lily's hand. She squeezed it rather hard. He winced and let go. But Lily was still holding on. She remembered how he was the only one to fall off his chair. He finally managed to get out of her grip. He sat back next to Sirius, soothing his hand. Professor McGonagall handed everyone their timetables
"Double potions with Slytherin." groaned James.
"Why? What's so bad about the Slytherins? I know they don't look nice, but I'm sure they are just like the rest of us." Rose choked on her toast, as James and Sirius looked dumbstruck.
"What's wrong with them?!" shouted Sirius. "Are you nuts?!"
"They are our rivals." Rose said calmly.
"So?" Lily asked.
"So? SO?! Oh man, I think she needs to go to the Hospital Wing." Rose continued, ignoring Sirius' comment.
"They have turned out most of the dark wizards. You - Know - Who was one. In Slytherin I mean."
"Who's 'You - Know - Who?" asked Lily, who was getting more confused by the minute. James looked just about to burst. Sirius had his mouth open, not realising he still had toast half eaten in his mouth.
"Relax you two. Lily's a Muggle born."
"Oh. Well people call him You - Know - Who, because they are all afraid of him. He is the most powerful wizard of all time." James explained. Sirius was now walloping down food, like there was no tomorrow.
"So, what's his real name then?" asked Lily, curious to find out more. Rose turned pale. James however, had a look of pure hatred in his face.
"I personally find no reason to be afraid of his name." He leaned closer, to Lily across the table. "It's Voldemort." He hissed inside her ear.
"Voldemort?" Lily said out loud. Some people who had heard her gasped. "Sorry." Lily apologised.
"You see, people are afraid of his name. Can you imagine how they would be when they actually meet him? No one has survived who stood up to him." He sat back down on his chair. "I heard that the only person that Voldemort is afraid of is Dumbledore. I've also heard Dad say to Mum many times, that he was a BRILLIANT student. But once he left school, he turned rotten to the core. He is so evil; he only cares about himself. He has followers, so many of them, that nowadays, you don't know whom to trust. Especially strangers because, you never know, they might be spies." Lily gulped and looked around nervously. Anyone here could be a spy, thought Lily. Just then, a short boy came and sat next to James. He looked very pale.
After breakfast, the first year Gryffindor and Slytherin first years made their way to the dungeons. Lily noticed that a tall, greasy-haired boy was walking around like he owned the place. "Well, Professor Asphagus might be interesting. Do you know she's half Muggle, Severus?" asked a boy next to him.
"Really, well that's interesting Lucius. And how do you know this? And why exactly do you think I care?" asked Severus mockingly.
"Well Severus, I just though that..." The boy broke off. They had reached the dungeons. It was colder down here than the rest of the school. Lily drew her robes closer to her, as did many of the other students. As they approached the door, a young woman, who looked like she was in her twenties, opened it. She was tall, sleek, and very pretty. She had curly brown hair, with electric blue eyes. "Come on in." She said cheerfully. When everyone had settled down, she began. "I am Professor Asphagus. I would like to let you know that you will only be having me for the first term. This is because I have found a job elsewhere. So for the time I am here, I hope you enjoy this class. Now open up your books to page 124."
And so began the Potions lesson. For the whole two periods, they wrote from their books, from the board. Everyone, but Lucius, seemed irritated at the immense workload. Lucius had finished early, so that he could daydream. By the end of the lesson, everyone was in a bad mood (except Lucius, of course). A Slytherin girl said, "Gee. I wish he would stop drooling over her. I mean, what does she have that I haven't got?" At that moment, Sirius, who had heard what she had said, replied before her friends could. "Well, let's see. Good looks, brains." He ticked them off his fingers as he went. "Beautiful eyes." James had joined in as well. All the Gryffindors, except Lily were laughing.
"Stop it!" hissed Severus.
"Aaahh Severus. I was wondering when you would show you're big ugly, not to mention greasy, mug. So, how have you been old buddy? Is this your girlfriend? I know you don't have taste, but her." At this, all the Gryffindors howled with laughter. Lily was furious. The girl had run off crying. Lily was so mad that she came up to James and slapped him hard across the face. Silence fell. Lily stormed of to lunch.
Lily didn't talk to James from that day (if you don't count all the insults they threw at each other). And neither did James. She always gave him a hatred look, which he returned. However, no matter how much she hated James, she still found Sirius a good friend. Lily always interrupted when James tried to talk or she ignored him. Along with James, she also disliked Peter. A small, fair-haired, with sparkling blue eyes. He was very timid, and hopeless at studies. And to compare with Lily's disapproval of him, he hated her back.
As days went by, Lily got used to all the moving portraits, the pearly - white ghosts, and most of all, her classes. Much to Lily's surprise, a term had already gone by, and Christmas was a few days away.
Most of the first years were sitting by the fire in the common room. Rose was playing with Exploding Snap cards. They were trying to build a house of cards. Every now and then, a 'snap' would end the game. Then they would start all over again. Currently, they were on their fifth game, when a sudden 'snap' announced the end of it. "That's it. I've had it with this. That was really close." Rose said in a huff. Sirius was grinning like he always did.
"Well we might as well go outside. Where's James?" asked Sirius, looking around. Just then, James crawled out of the portrait hole. He was red and sweaty, but nonetheless, he looked pleased with himself. He ran up to the boy's dormitory but was back in a flash. He was holding cup cakes and all sorts of other delicacies in his hands, and there were some stuffed in his pockets as well. "Whoa! Were did you get those?" asked Sirius, helping himself to a cup cake.
"The kitchen." Replied James, looking quite smug.
"You - you stole them?" came Lily's voice from the armchair.
"No. The house elves gave them to me. They'll give you anything!" Sirius didn't care much, mainly because his face was too stuffed, but also because he knew that James would never steal anything. They had been friends since as long as they could remember. "Oh relax Lily. Won't you have one?" asked Rose, as she helped herself to a cream puff. "No thanks." said Lily sternly. And she marched off outside to look for something to do.
Lily was ankle-high in snow, as she walked around muttering to herself about house elves and thieves. She was too busy thinking about the sweets, that she didn't know where she was walking. Until she walked right into Snape that is. "Ow. Hey why don't you look where you're going carrot - head? Can't you see?" Just then, James, Sirius and Rose were jogging (or at least trying to) up to Lily and Snape. "Aahh, the geek patrol. And their leader, James." Snape hissed.
"Are you here to save your little friend, Potter?" came Lucius' voice.
"Oh, sorry. I thought you were out on a date with Asphagus. Or did she dump you?" retorted Sirius. Lucius turned a pale tinge colour.
"That is none of your business!" shouted Narcissa. Lily looked at her with sympathy, but it was replaced with hatred soon after.
"So, Lucius. You go out with Asphagus and this dung beetle!" James shouted.
"At least he doesn't have a mudblood for a girlfriend!" At this, James and Sirius leapt on to Snape and Malfoy. Lily was struggling to keep hold of Rose, but failed bitterly as she broke from Lily's grip, and ran straight for Narcissa.
Later that evening, everyone was bruised, bleeding (or in James' case, broken). They stood in front of McGonagall's table. She was looking through her square - rimmed glasses, as if she were a vulture, deciding whom to eat first. She was very pale, and irritated. Professor Serpentine, head of Slytherin house, came thundering into the room. He always looked dangerous with his crooked nose, but now he looked beyond dangerous. "HOW DARE YOU! I THOUGHT THAT YOU HAD MORE SENSE THEN THIS SEVERUS!"
Lily had a bleeding nose, because of Narcissa's misjudged punch, which she was aiming for Rose, landed on her. Sirius had a black eye, Severus a cut lip, and Lucius just had a big headache (Rose had pulled his hair several times). As for James, in all the confusion, everyone had landed on him. He was nursing his arm as Professor McGonagall spoke to them. "You all know very well, that fighting is against school rules!" bellowed Professor McGonagall.
"But Professor." began Rose.
"Quiet, Miss Thorn. You have all broken a very serious school rule. Slytherin and Gryffindor will each lose fifty points. And if anything like this happens again, you will be taken straight to the Headmaster. Understood?" Everyone nodded. "Mr. Potter you should go to the Infirmary to get that arm fixed. As for the rest of you, go to your common rooms at once." They all left silently. James headed for the Hospital Wing while the others went back to their common rooms.
AN: A very small chapter, I know. But I'm working on it. Every thing belongs to J.K. Rowling, except for the characters you don't recognise. E.G: Rose Thorn© oh, and please review!
