10) Melinda Riddle

Harry stared at her in disbelief. Voldemort had a daughter? Was it possible? "How old are you?" he asked.

"Sixteen. I'm a Sixth year at Hogwarts."

"You go to Hogwarts?"

"Yes, I'm a Ravenclaw. I work summers here. I'm on the Quidditch team as of last year. I'm the Keeper."

"No! That's Jocelyn Mayes!"

"Right. When I first started attending Hogwarts, I decided it best not to let anyone know who I was. My father killed my mother. I'm an orphan."

"No offense, but how are you not a Slytherin? I mean your dad was evil... I was almost in Slytherin because of my scar."

"My mother was a Hufflepuff. Things evened out through me. They met in school as Prefects. At the time, my father didn't care what house my mother was in; he only loved her beauty. Then they married and had me. And then, Dad turned truly evil. He came home one night when I was just a baby and killed my mother with left over rage."

"How do you remember that?"

"He embedded it in my mind. He let me sit there in my crib, crying and left forever."

"What was the left over rage from?"

"From killing your parents."

"So you should be just as famous as me! You weren't killed either!"

"No! I remember he didn't see me. He forgot he ever had me. I am not a survivor of his rage. I'm merely a leftover."

"Dumbledore knows who you are. Or one of the staff at least."

"No. I snuck on board the train. Dumbledore found me asleep on it. He asked me who I was. I knew exactly who he was because my father kept a picture of him. I found it a few years after the... incident. I told him my name was Jocelyn Mayes and that I was an orphan witch looking for Hogwarts to learn my trade. I found it."

"He never looked at you suspiciously?"

"Nope! I was always Jocelyn Mayes and will remain. Listen Potter, you keep your mouth shut!" Her voice turned cold and snakish.

"Wait, what happened to that drawl?"

She looked sheepish. "I'm shy around strangers."

"Do you speak parseltongue? Did you inherit it?"

"Yeah. Father bought me a pet snake when I was first born. I spoke my first words in parseltongue. I loved that snake. Ah, Nagini. Father took her with him when he ran out on us."

"You'll be glad to know she's still alive."

"Nice. Hey, you want to meet up tomorrow at Hogsmeade?"

"Sure! We have to ask McGonagall first..."

"Ask me what?" McGonagall cut in from behind.

"Er, Jocelyn wants me to go to Hogsmeade with her. May I go?"

"Jocelyn Mayes? Oh my, I didn't recognize you! Not with that little accent! Potter, I'm afraid you can't go for good reasons. And Miss Mayes, I think it unwise that you go, not with Him about." McGonagall walked away. Harry followed her.

"I'm not afraid of my own father," she muttered.

11) Preparing for Class

Harry sat at the desk, stressing over what else to put on his supplies list. So far it read:

Parchment

Wand

Writing utensils

Snape sat beside him, trying to write his list too. He had a lot more supplies listed though. He looked over at Harry's paper and snorted with laughter.

"No books, Potter?" He asked.

"Well, what book? I'm in the dark right now."

"Defense Against the Seen and Unseen by Matilda Wrigit-- new author, very good book. And may I also suggest Against Large and Small by Hillary Brom-- another aspiring author."

Harry added those to his list. "Anything else?"

"You think about it. I'm done." He got up and left.

"Severus!" Harry called. He returned. "Ron sent me an owl. He wants to know if I can go to Diagon Alley with him. May I?"

"Is an adult wizard or witch going to be there?"

"Yeah."

"Then yes." And he left again.

Harry looked at his list and added two more things so that it now read:

Parchment

Wand

Writing utensils

Defense Against the Seen and Unseen by Matilda Wrigit

Against Large and Small by Hillary Brom.

Harry read over his list and then turned it in to McGonagall, who stuck all the copies together into a booklet and began to send them out to all the students.

"So all your students will be learning the exact same thing?"

"No. I asked more details on the books and it turns out, they are over one thousand pages thick each, and divided into sections. Seven sections. So I figured first years, second... yeah. The sections go from easy spells to hard spells."

"Very good Potter! When are you going to go to Diagon?"

"Whenever Ron sends his owl."

"Very good. Harry, Dumbledore, Snape, and I want to watch you with the unforgivables. Now."

She led him down the corridor to Dumbledore's office and laid out beetles. Harry went through each unforgivable. When he was done, he produced his patronus as a final order, "DEMENTOR!" was shrieked.

"Very good, Potter. You may go. You're ready to become a professor," Dumbledore said.
