The Other Side of the Fence

Intro.: The Arrival

The plane arrived from New York at 1:00 in the afternoon in the UK. A girl, about 16, stepped out of the terminal, looking around for her grandmother. The girl was tall (about 5'8") and of average weight. Her hair was a dark brown, with purple and blue highlights in it. It was of medium length, and was in several tiny braids. Her bright blue eyes finally rested on her grandma, who was beaming at her.

"Rikka, I wanted to see your green highlights!" She exclaimed.

"I changed my mind." Rikka smiled playfully. The two made their way to get Rikka's luggage. Rikka was unaware of the stares at her, dressed in black capris, a revealing gray tank top, which went along with her Goth-like make-up, and multiple piercings: five in each ear, her bellybutton and her nose (but that one wasn't used anymore).

"So how are things, dear?" Mrs. Clark asked as Rikka grabbed her trunk and two suitcases.

"Fine. Mel and Summer threw me a goodbye party. They're mad at me; now they have to find another Chaser." Rikka felt tears welling up in her eyes thinking about her friends and home. She agreed however that she would finish her schooling at Hogwarts as a transfer student, and it was too late to change her mind.

"Hogwarts is a wonderful school, dear, and all sorts of things are happening there now! It's not the same as when I went there." Mrs.Clark reasoned. Rikka was a muggle-born, and at any rate was grateful to live with her grandma, who grew up with a life Rikka wished she had. "Well, we should go to Diagon Alley first. You need your things of course and we don't have much time. I suppose we should stop at home though." Then, grabbing Rikka's hand the two Apparated to Grandma's house....

.... In Knockturn Ally.

"Ugh, the people here can be so horrible!" Mrs. Clark said quietly as they walked by a very drunk man. "I wonder sometimes why I live here."

Rikka nodded without paying attention to what she said. She was looking at the newest broom model, the Firebolt 100. It was perfect in every way possible, but Rikka would have to sell her soul to have the right amount of money. Rikka noticed they were almost there.

"Ah, here we are!" Mrs. Clark waved her wand and the door opened. The house was old and fairly shabby. Rikka dropped her luggage and collapsed on the couch. She was very tired and had a headache. The trip was a bad one since airplanes made her sick.

"Your room is upstairs on the left, dear. Later we'll go to Diagon Alley to get your things."

But Rikka was already half asleep, staring at the pictures on the walls. She was looking at one of a young couple at a beach, smiling and waving. The woman was her grandma know doubt, and the man her grandfather. However, Rikka never met him. In fact, he was a mystery since no one mentioned him ever. 'Oh well, time for some sleep...'
