Chapter Five

"So you want to explain things in full, you guys?" Hermione asked, settling down on one of the rocks. "About who we are and why we're doing this, fighting evil?"
"We don't exactly know everything, Hermione," Anna explained as she pulled out a handkerchief and opened it up, revealing some home made brownies. As she picked one up, she caught Hermione's incredulous look. "What? I'm hungry, I didn't get anything to eat at lunch."

"Well, what were you doing during lunch, anyway?" Hermione asked patiently, giving the smaller girl a look. Hermione's five foot three inches often felt small next to Harry's five feet seven inches and Ron's six feet, but Anna was much shorter than Hermione, probably about four feet eleven inches.

"Trying to find my Charms books that Paravati and Lavender hid," Anna replied, offering her a brownie. Hermione shook her head, sighing. "Anyway, back on track. Luna, if you will."

"Anna, you are completely hopeless at times," Luna grumbled, propping up on another rock. "Well, Hermione, like Anna said, we don't have all the details yet. All we know is that a long time ago, when we lived on the Moon, you, Anna, and the other Sailor Scouts, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus, protected the Moon from evil. But Negaverse invaded our universe and attacked the Moon."

"The Sailor Scouts escaped and were sent a thousand years into the future and were reborn with no memory of their former existence," Artemis added. "Luna and I were sent to be your guardians and to reunite the Sailor Scouts. We have to defeat the Negaverse for good, if we ever want lasting peace."

"But the real mission," Anna said, rolling her eyes and speaking in a tone like she'd heard this too many times, "is to find the Princess of the Moon so we can protect her from the Negaverse."

Hermione let out a deep sigh and looked at all three of them. "You guys realise that you all just told me stuff that I already knew?" she wondered and all three of them blinked. "You told me that already. But why me? I mean, could it have worked on anybody else?"

"No," Anna said sharply, sitting up straight. "You want to know how we knew? When that monster attacked you, it couldn't drain any energy from you because it can't drain energy from Sailor Scouts. Plus the sign of Mercury appeared on your forehead. Like I was born with spirit of Sailor Moon within me, you were born with the spirit of Sailor Mercury within you."

"And what about these other Sailors?" Hermione asked, looking around at the guardians. "When will they appear? Only when monsters attack them?"

"Sometimes," Luna replied, choosing her words carefully. "But we will be able to sense the Sailor within them from time to time. Anna sensed that she knew you before she knew that you were a Sailor and even asked if it was possible if you were."

"Yeah, but I also thought I knew Harry and Ron too, Luna," Anna muttered and Hermione looked around at her in surprise. "Don't worry about it, okay? One out of three isn't bad. I must've just been thrown off with the crowd."

"Maybe," Hermione muttered, distracted. "Or maybe not." She thought about that first day, when Anna joined their table. She and Harry had looked at each other, only for a moment, but both of them knew each other.

"I feel like I know her from somewhere," Harry had said. "There's definitely something familiar about her."

Was it possible? Did Harry have something to do with the Sailor Scouts? Or was it just coincidence that they felt like they knew each other? Hermione wished that she knew the answer to any of those questions.

"Did you hear? There's some new store in Hogsmeade selling love charms, Harry," Ron said as they sat in the common room, struggling over homework.

Harry glanced at Ron, his eyebrows raised. "Love charms?" he echoed. "Sounds like some gimmick to me. Those things never work, at least in the Muggle world."

"Yeah, well, these sounded really cool," Ron said, his eyes flashing with anticipation. "Apparently they're supposed to make all your love dreams come true with just one of them. Plus they're having a two for one special as a grand opening."

"What's this about love charms, Ronald?" Hermione asked, appearing at their side along with Anna Dawson and her two cats.

Strange, Harry thought, but those cats are never far from her. It's almost like they're destined to watch over her or something. And didn't she say she went out to be alone? How did she end up with Hermione?

"New store in town," Ron explained again to Hermione. "They're selling love charms and they're supposed to really work."

"That's what you said the last time that someone was selling love charms, Ronald," Hermione pointed out and Anna chuckled, taking a seat beside Harry, watching the two teenagers bicker.

"Are those two always at each other's throats?" she muttered to him. Harry grinned and nodded. "Oh. Well. Good to know." She absently scratched the black cat behind the ears while the white one purred for attention.

Harry grinned and stroked the white one. "That's Artemis," Anna told him, nodding to the white one. "This is Luna."

"Right," Harry said, scratching Artemis. "Hi, Luna. Hi, Artemis. Nice to meet you."

"So what's this love gimmick thing that Ron's going on about?" Anna asked him, turning away from the argument. "It sounds awfully suspicious to me. Is it going to moving into that old dumpy place across from the Hog's Head?"

"Yeah," Ron said, overhearing her. "But I think calling that place a dump is a bit tactless, Dawson."

Anna's mouth dropped open in disbelief. "Me?" she exclaimed. "Tactless? Come off it, Ron. I just moved here and I know that the place has been a potions supply twice, a magical clock shop, a Dark Arts supply, a bookshop, a--"

"All right, all right!" Ron said, waving at her to stop. "I get the picture! Stop already! Jeez, you're sounding like Hermione!"

Both girls glanced at each other and then Anna shook her head. "All I'm saying is that I would've thought that people would've gotten the idea into their heads that it was jinxed, that's all," she said. "I mean, people did get the idea into their heads that the Defence job was jinxed, right?"

"She's got a point," Harry replied with a shrug at Ron, who was looking outraged. "But it's hardly something to be suspicious about, Anna. It's just a love charm shop."

"And," Ron said happily. "It's opening tomorrow, just in time for a Hogsmeade visit."

Anna didn't say anything for a minute; she was looking down at Luna. And Harry could've sworn that he saw the cat nod at her. But it couldn't be, cats didn't nod to anyone . . . did they?
