Chapter Three

"I'm telling you, that girl is pretty strange, Harry," Hermione said as they walked to Potions the next morning. "She was in the bathroom until way past midnight and I could hear her talking to two other people. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but they were having a really serious conversation."

Harry considered what Hermione had told him and then shrugged. "Well, I don't know, maybe she's got some problems and was talking them out with people?"

"Come off it, Harry," Hermione said, scoffing. "How could anyone get into the girls' dormitory without anyone noticing? There were only those two cats of hers that went in there with her. Which those two are pretty strange as well."

"Oh, really, Hermione?" Ron asked, arching his eyebrows. "What's so strange about a couple of cats? They can't be any more weirder than Crookshanks."

"Guys, don't start," Harry said hastily before they started in another argument. "What's so strange about them, Hermione?"

Hermione was glaring at Ron and continued to do so for a full minute before she looked at Harry and answered his question. "Well, they both seem really . . . perspective for cats. Plus they both have the crescent moon on their foreheads and that's not exactly normal."

Harry sighed as he saw Anna round the corner in front of them, heading for Potions. "Well, there she is," he said in an undertone to Hermione. "You want to confront her about it?"

Hermione pursed her lips together and shook her head. "No, I actually think that we should tell Professor Dumbledore about it," she informed him. "It seems highly suspicious."

"Dumbledore's got enough to worry about without dealing with some weird new foreign student, 'Mione," Ron replied, shaking his head. "If she wants to deal with creepy stuff, let that be her affair."

"Honestly, Ron, don't you think it's possible that she could be working for Voldemort?" Hermione hissed at him.

Anna's head turned and glanced at them once, her sky-blue eyes narrowing at them before looking in the direction she was going again. But she looked slightly hurt as she did so.

"I think she heard you, Hermione," Harry told her, his eyes on the blonde teen. "And I think that's highly unlikely as well."

"Oh?" Hermione said, brown eyes surprised. "What makes you so sure about that, Harry? Some people can surprise you, you know."

Remembering Peter Pettigrew's betrayal to his parents, which had ultimately led to their deaths, Harry nodded miserably. "Yeah, I know, Hermione," he said bitterly. "But it really just seems too improbable in this particular case."

But before any of them could say another word, a bloodcurdling scream echoed through the corridor, coming from the dungeons.

Anna stopped short when she heard the scream, frozen in mid-step. Behind her, she saw the three Gryffindors looked worried.

"Ron, go get Professor McGonagall!" Harry yelled before running forward, Hermione at his heels. They ran past Anna, who looked between them and Ron's departing form.

Before she even stopped to think, she opened an empty classroom, one hand reaching for the golden brooch that she wore attached to her robes. Raising her hand towards the sky, Anna shouted, "Moon Prism Power!"

At once, rainbow lights engulfed Anna and her Hogwarts robes vanished and she twirled in the lights automatically. A skin tight sailor suit appeared on her body, as did elbow length gloves on her arms, knee high red boots, a red collar fastened around her neck, and red hair pieces appeared on her hair buns as a golden tiara appeared on her neck.

The rainbow lights vanished and Anna opened her eyes to find herself back in the empty classroom, completely transformed into the superhero, crime-fighting heroine, Sailor Moon.

"All right, Luna," she muttered, racing out the door and down the corridor. "Here we go again!"

Harry was astonished to find the entire potions class turned upside down. Literally. Desks were thrown everywhere, students were lying everywhere, unconscious, and there was a hideous monster draining some kind of weird white light out of them.

"What's going on?" Hermione whispered, her eyes focused upon them. "What is that weird creature doing? Oh, I don't like this. This has got to be some kind of dream."

The thing was, Harry was hoping that it was. Because it looked like some stunners had already hit the monster and they hadn't even effected it. But Harry had to do something.

Raising his wand and pointing it at the monster, Harry whispered to Hermione, "Stunners, on three, okay?" She pulled out her wand and nodded. "One . . . two . . . three!"

"Stupefy!" both of their voices shouted in the dungeons. Both spells hit the monster, but they could have thrown a rock at it, for all the good it did.

"Well, well, well," the monster cackled. "Looks like some more energy for my master. He'll be most pleased with me."

"Hold it!" a new female voice shouted.

Harry and Hermione turned towards the person who had spoken, but all they saw was someone standing in the shadows until the young woman came into view. She was wearing some kind of sailor outfit, complete with red boots and collar.

"Who are you?!" the monster hissed and Harry wondered the same thing. Who was this girl? Or more importantly, what was she? Could she help?

The girl raised her arm in a superhero poise, which Harry thought was pretty impressive. "I am Sailor Moon," she replied. "The Champion of Justice. And I say on behalf of the moon, I will right wrongs and triumph over evil. And that means you." She pointed her finger directly at the monster.

"Sailor Moon?" the monster repeated, its eyes narrowing. "I've heard of you. You're that idiot of a girl who's always messing with the Dark Lord's plans! Prepare to be punished for defying our Dark Order!"

Harry could've sworn he heard the girl--Sailor Moon--gulp. "Uh-oh," she muttered as the students began to rise, their eyes blank.

"They're being controlled by the monster!" Hermione shrieked at Sailor Moon, who looked at them.

"I know!" she said impatiently. "They'll be fine. I just have to find a way to get rid of that maniac."

"Haven't you done this before?!" Hermione shouted just as the students began to attack her and she was forced to ignore them and try to fight them. The sailor, Harry realised, was trying to reach for her tiara.

But before he could do anything else, the monster launched an attack at them and Harry was caught off guard. With the sinking feeling that he was somehow supposed to help Sailor Moon, Harry was thrown against the wall and into unconsciousness.

* * *

"Sailor Moon?" Anna glanced around and saw Luna at her heels as she was trying to fight off the possessed students. "What on earth are you trying to do?"

"Oh, hi, Luna," Anna said, automatically reaching for her tiara. "When did you get here?"

The guardian gave her a look and shook her head impatiently. "You are driving me to my wits' end, Anna," she informed her. "And you need to do something about those students before the teachers come."

"I'm trying," Anna pointed out just as she saw the monster attacked both Harry and Hermione. Harry, caught off guard, was thrown against the wall and slumped against it.

Hermione was faring better. She dived out of the way but the monster managed to grab her. But despite its efforts, it wasn't able to drain any energy from Hermione.

Anna shoved one of the students away, which knocked over several in turn and turned towards the monster and captive girl in confusion. Why wasn't anything happening? That was more than a little odd . . .

"Luna, what's going on?" she asked, but the cat was staring at Hermione in astonishment. "What's happening? Why isn't anything happening to her? That's not like any of the other monsters that we've fought in the past." Maybe Hermione was with the Negaverse, she thought.

But just as the thought crossed Anna's mind, a heart with antennas perched on a small cross appeared on Hermione's forehead, her bangs blowing up to reveal it.

"Mercury!" Luna breathed in astonishment. The guardian cat looked around at Anna in amazement. "It looks like you were right after all, Sailor Moon. Hermione's not with the Negaverse; she's one of us! She's Sailor Mercury."

"Great," Anna muttered just as the students attacked her again. "Get her transformed already so she can give me a hand with this, will you?"
"Oh, honestly, Anna," Luna muttered but ran over to the fallen girl, jumping in the air so that a pen with a blue handle with the symbol of Mercury on it appeared. Luna caught the pen and hurried over to Hermione.

"You're history, Mudblood," the monster hissed at Hermione, who was panicking. "Say goodbye to your pals."

"Hermione!" Luna shouted, thrusting the pen at the girl, who caught it. "Take this! Shout 'Mercury Power'."

"How did you learn how to talk?" Hermione asked her in utter amazement, staring at the cat. It was no wonder that cat had seemed so unusual to her . . . and that must have been whom Anna had been talking to the previous night, she realised.

"No time to explain, just do it!" the cat ordered.

Glancing towards the monster, Hermione thought it might be a good idea to do what Luna told her to. Thrusting the pen into the air, Hermione shouted, "Mercury Power!"

Anna looked around at them as Hermione was engulfed in blue lights and ribbons surrounded her body, transforming her Hogwarts outfit into the sailor scout uniform.

It was almost identical to Anna's, except her colours were blue and indigo and her choker, earrings, and boots were a solid blue. Hermione was staring down at herself in amazement, examining it carefully.

The monster scowled at them. "It doesn't matter," it replied. "One Sailor or two, you're both done for."

"Mercury Bubbles," Hermione shouted, suddenly knowing what to do on instinct, cupping her hands. "Blast!"

The room was filled with fog and the students attacking Anna fainted again. Anna managed to shove them off her and hurried over to her new companion in this Sailor Scout business.

"Hermione, you okay?" she asked the other girl, who was staring at her carefully, as if realising something.

"Anna, is that you?" she asked and Anna nodded, looking towards the monster. "Are you okay?"

"Don't worry, I'm fine, but that big ugly thing, however, is not," Anna replied, grabbing her tiara, which automatically turned into a discus. Taking careful aim, she threw it as hard as she could at the monster. "Moon Tiara Magic!"

"Noooo!" the monster howled, trying to dodge, but the discus hit it on target and the monster turned into dust.

"Moondusted!" Anna said triumphantly and looked around towards Harry, who was still remaining unconscious. Hermione followed her gaze and alarm rose in her eyes. "Don't worry, he'll be okay," she assured her.

"Sailor Mercury, you were wonderful," Luna told Hermione. "Welcome to the Sailor Scouts."

"We'd better get out of here while we still can," Anna pointed out as students started to wake up. Hermione realised her meaning at once and both girls detransformed.
