Creeps Me Out

(Based on song by Ima Robot, "Creeps Me Out")

***

14 people in the club

Ima robot; what, no love?

Backstage she came rolling up

She said, "Do anything and I love ya."

***

Draco was getting ready for his first gig. He was a little bit nervous and very new to the whole band thing. His band members had explained it to him in detail, but he still felt a little sick.

He stuck his head out from backstage and peered at the non-existent crowd. Fourteen people. At least then I won't make a complete fool of myself in front of everyone. Only fourteen people.

"Ok, Draco, calm down," he said aloud to himself.

"Stage fright?"

Draco turned quickly to see a familiar grinning face, and lots of red hair. He couldn't quite place the face with a name, but Merlin, she was beautiful!

"Ginny?" he said, not quite sure he had the correct name.

"You remembered me," she drawled. She had grown up so much since the last time he had seen her four years ago. "You know I've loved you for a while now, Draco Malfoy." She winked and sauntered back to her seat in the audience. Draco was stunned.

***

Well, there must be a mistake

Girl, you're way too hot

You could make a million dollars with the face you got

Don't you know my last number was a flop?

She said, "Do anything and I love ya."

***

There must be a mistake, thought Draco. Ginny Weasley, loving Draco Malfoy was laughable. She was gorgeous; she could have anyone she wanted.

Draco thought about his last relationship. It had completely fallen apart, as family-selected relationships tend to. Narcissa and Lucius had hand-picked Pansy Parkinson from a line of pureblood families, specifically for Draco. She was extremely opposed to this relationship but didn't start voicing her opinion until she had graduated Hogwarts and had another beau secured.

After the concert, which, Draco had to admit, was thoroughly exhilarating,

Ginny was waiting for him. They talked about everything that had happened in the last four years, including Pansy, which didn't seem to phase Ginny one bit.

***

Well, I don't do love letters

I'm no good with flowers

If I forget your birthday

Will you still love me?

***

The next morning, Draco left early. When he arrived at his flat, there was an owl waiting for him on the windowsill. He eyed the owl wearily and took the letter. It was from Ginny.

Draco quickly scrawled back and response. He hoped she didn't expect anything special. He was horrible with mushy stuff like love letters and such. He didn't understand women who wanted long-term relationships. He also didn't understand why any man would succumb to that sort of behavior. Why on earth would any sensible man spend more than he needed to on a bunch of plants? What's so special about roses? Or daisies? Draco was terrible when it came to flowers, he barely could recognize the difference between a rose and a daisy, which, apparently, was not too difficult for most men.

He recalled the time when he had forgotten Pansy's seventeenth birthday. She may not have really liked Draco at all, but she had to keep up her image. It was kind of Draco to say that she was upset- he remembered a bit more clearly that she had thrown a tantrum- along with a glass vase filled with flowers. Those damn flowers again. He hoped never to have to face that situation again. If he did get involved with Ginny, he decided, he would have to be careful to mark her birthday ominously in color-changing ink on his calendar. He couldn't forget a Christmas gift either, he thought nervously, as he looked at the date on the calendar. December 4th. Not too far away.

***

Well, what are the odds of

One true love?

You say "high"

But I have my doubts

***

New Years Eve found Draco and Ginny out to dinner at a fancy restaurant in an upper-class wizarding neighborhood in London. Draco had kept his promise not to forget a Christmas gift- he spent a lot of time searching for an acceptable gift before deciding on some luminous scented candles. Girls liked things that smelled good, right?

Chinese food restaurants, even high-class wizarding ones, always gave out fortune cookies after dinner. Ginny giggled.

"What are the odds of One True Love?" she asked Draco, showing him the little sparkling piece of paper.

"Not so great?" replied Draco, unsure of himself or her reaction. She raised her eyebrows.

"I think the odds are high! Wouldn't you like to find someone to spend the rest of your life with?" she inquired, eyebrows still raised.

Draco looked worried. "I'm not so sure."

***

What are the odds of

Me letting you down?

Please don't cry; it's just your love

It creeps me out

***

"I'm not the kind of person that's ever been truly committed," Draco admitted. Ginny looked hurt.

"Are you breaking up with me?" Her voice wavered.

"No- don't cry! Please don't cry; I'm just... your love kind of creeps me out, that's all." Draco looked at her gently as she tried not to cry.

She looked at him with a sad half-smile. "I still love you."

***

Now she can't stop from loving me

Making me food, touching me

I told her, "I ain't got money on me."

She said, "Do anything and I love ya."

***

Ginny continued to see Draco, despite his apprehension of long-term commitments. She still loved him and she couldn't escape that.

Draco opened the door to reveal Ginny, dressed like a not-so-abominable snowwoman. He let her in and watched as she carefully unbundled her white cloak, scarf, hat, and mittens which had hidden most of her skin from the bitter winter cold.

"I thought I'd make you dinner tonight, and then we could just stay in and get out of the cold instead of going out," she offered with a playful grin. Draco couldn't help but grin back at the thoughts of all the possible things they could do to stay warm later on.

***

Three hours later, after a thoroughly satisfying home-cooked meal by Ginny, who had been taught by the best- Molly- Draco and Ginny had curled up on the couch and were watching a movie on the magically projected screen.

Ginny carefully detached herself from Draco's arms and looked him in the eyes.

"I thought maybe we could move in together," she stated, "I mean, we've been together for a while now."

"Your flat or mine? I mean, I'm not exactly rich... you know Father cut me off after... well, you know how easily disappointed he is."

"I don't care, Draco... I love you..." breathed Ginny softly.

***

Yeah, I know your mom makes fun of me

And you caught your best friend under me

I guess this means you're done with me

She said, "Do anything and I love ya."

***

Three months later, life was not so blissful for the somewhat awkward couple.

"I don't see how I can even think about going to the Burrow for Easter!" shouted Draco, "Your mum and brothers will just make fun of me the whole time we're there!"

"You're not being rational! Last time we went the Burrow, it was shortly after you had cheated on me- with Hermione, no less! What did you think would happen if you slept with my best friend? My family would throw you a party?"

Their voices carried across the room and ricocheted off the walls, creating a massive echo effect that made both of them sound eight times as fierce as they were.

Draco gaped at her. "You're insane, you know that? I would have thought you'd have broken up with me by now- but you still say you love me! Any other girl would have dumped my sorry arse long ago! But you- you're- you're creepy!"

This did not sit well with Ginny. She stormed out of the room and burst into tears. Draco threw his hands up in defeat and slammed the door after her.

***

Well, I go out all hours

You get strange phone calls

I'm so A.D.D. with you

But you still love me

***

"You have to go out again? Where are you going all the time? You're always out!" Ginny looked exasperated. Draco was staring moodily out the window, watching passing owls and tree branches swaying. It was late summer, and the leaves were just starting to look choked and fed up with all the heat.

"And these phone calls- I keep getting these strange phone calls- I don't know why you insisted on keeping a Muggle phone, but-" she stopped, noticing his inattention.

"Are you- are you even paying attention to me? Draco?" She looked positively livid now. Instead of blowing up, she just sat there, glaring at Draco, until he finally turned towards here and came crashing back into Earth.

"Huh?" He looked confused. Ginny sighed, stood, and kissed him chastely on the cheek.

"I still love you," she whispered in his ear.

***

She don't screw my friends

And she cleans up my house

All of this love, girl, is creeping me out

***

"She's never even cheated on me," explained Draco.

"Never?" questioned Goyle.

"Never! Greg- she's like a leech! She's attached herself to me! She cleans my house!" Draco looked exasperated and slightly crazed at this point.

"That's odd..." agreed Greg."I can never keep a girl for more than a couple weeks... but even I think a year is too long!

"She's really creeping me out..." whispered Draco.

***

You're creeping me out

You're creeping me out

Girl, you're creeping me out

Girl, you creep me out.

***

"Ginny..." Draco began, calmly, "I don't know how to say this, but... You're creeping me out. I wasn't made for this type of relationship- I don't want anything long-term! I told you that from the beginning!"

Ginny just stared.

"I'm sorry, Ginny, but I want out. I really am sorry," he finished lamely.

Ginny finally spoke. "Draco," she called softly, "I still love you."
