Flint
Part 1:
Chapter 1: Of Flint and Gems
Flint-by Christina Rossetti
An emerald is as green as grass;
A ruby as red as blood;
A sapphire shines as blue as heaven;
A flint lies in the mud.
A diamond is a brilliant stone,
To catch the worlds desire;
An opal holds a firy spark;
But a flint holds fire.
As Ginny Weasley, the flint of Hogwarts School, walked down from her dorm from after finishing her homework, her sad, brown eyes looked over to a group of friends sitting in a far corner, near the crackling fireplace. These friends, Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, and Hermione Granger, were in the 5th year at Hogwarts and had all ready faced many things they weren't supposed to. Voldemort was one of them.
Ginny had no friends and she envied her brother, Ron. He had so many friends. One of his friends was her long time crush, Harry Potter. She envied him even more for that. She couldn't forget the time a few months back, in about October when she owled him a letter asking him out. The letter's words still were trapped in her head, seeking freedom.
Dear Harry,
I don't know if you really know me, well you know me, but not that personally. I have liked you ever since I first laid eyes on you, your first year at Kings Cross Station. You probably don't like me at all one because, I am a year behind you and two because, I am a nobody, like a flint, a worthless piece of stone, only good for fire. Unlike you, a somebody, like a beautiful gem, full of fortune.
You probably are wondering why I am even wasting my time, asking you out, but I am going to do this anyway.
Write back soon,
Ginny Weasley
Two weeks later, she got a reply, not the best reply to get, but a reply still.
Ginny,
Uhhh, I really don't want to hurt you, but, I can't go out with you because I don't really like you. Maybe we are better off as close friends. Maybe in the future...
Yours Truly,
Harry J. Potter
Ginny was really upset after that. She became Harry's friend, but his idea of "close friends" wasn't what she thought it would be. She was often left out, but only because she was younger. No one noticed Ginny anymore, it seemed like, not even the teachers.
Two days from then, Professor Dumbledore owled her to come up to his office on her break. Little did she know that she was in for some heart-breaking news...
Chapter 2: Horrible News
As Ginny walked up the spiral staircase to Dumbledore's study, she started to wonder what Dumbledore could possibly want. She got up to the top of the staircase and heard voices, so she didn't open the door. Unwillingly, she listened in to the conversation going on behind the door.
"But, Professor!"
"I don't want to hear it, Harry, we all want both of your safety."
"I don't want this though, Professor!"
"But we do Harry, you have to understand that you and Miss Weasley are the most vulnerable now."
"Who is 'we' any way??"
"The whole wizarding community, Harry."
Ginny had had enough. She politely knocked on the door.
"And that would be Miss Weasley." Dumbledore smiled as he got up to open the door.
Ginny felt as though she was in sinking sand. The words that Dumbledore spoke were traveling very slowly from her ears to her head and she felt like she'd burst any second.
"Ginny, do you understand??" Dumbledore asked
"Yea, I do..." she said, seeming way more than far off.
"Okay, now, Harry, would you go back to Gryffindor tower and get your things ready? I need to speak to Ginny privately."
"Uhh, sure..." Harry shot a glance at Ginny as if to say, 'What is this about?'
Harry reluctantly left the room, shooting one last glance at Ginny as he left.
"Uh, Professor, what is this about?? Why did you make Harry leave?"
"Ginny, last night there was an attack..."
"And..." Ginny asked, hoping that the answer wasn't what she thought it would be.
"Ginny, last night, your house was the place of the attack."
"Oh......." Ginny didn't want to hear anymore.
"Ginny, your father was killed."
"Damn it...." Ginny whispered, barley audible.
"That is why you and Mr. Potter are not safe. Go on, get back to the tower and get your things ready. When you are done, come straight back here."
"Alright." Ginny sighed as she left.
Ginny knew that her life had changed from that moment.
Chapter 3: A Long Way From Home
That night was way more than a disaster to Ginny. As she walked up the spiral staircase for the second time that night, she started to feel like she was going to be gone a long time....with Harry.
As the weeks dripped by slowly, Ginny started to get used to her new 'home'. She shared a room with Harry, as the hut they were hidden in only had one room. Their friendship had grown, too, and Ginny was starting to wonder if she should ask Harry out again.
Her life was so horrible, and, about a month in to this whole 'hiding away until the danger has passed' thing, she got a letter from Dumbledore saying that Fred had committed suicide because of their father's death. Her anger and hate and pain couldn't be held in any longer. She cried and cried. She knew that crying was babyish, but, she did it any way.
Harry heard Ginny's cry and came into the bedroom. He stared at her for a while, wondering what the problem could be. He realized that he was gaping at her and gave himself a mental shake. He absently sat down on her bed, right next to her, but this was only out of sympathy.
Ginny lifted her head from its place on her knees. She looked up at Harry and handed him the letter.
Harry, puzzled, took the letter and read it. As he got to the second sentence he felt Ginny's pain. He now knew how she felt.
Harry took Ginny's hand and she, once again, looked at him. She burst out crying and leaped into Harry's open arms. Harry knew that this wasn't right, but, he allowed it because he knew that Ginny needed someone to be there for her right now.
Ginny soon stopped crying and saw that she was in Harry's arms. She stayed there for a moment, wondering how this happened, shrieked, and jumped away from him. Harry giggled.
"I'm not gonna bite you, Gin."
"Oh, I know that, but..."
"But what, Gin?"
"Harry, about just now, I am really sorry. I shouldn't have done that!"
Ginny started to cry again.
"Gin Gin, it's okay, don't worry, I know how you feel."
Ginny seemed relieved and started to smile. Ginny was getting an idea...
"Harry, uh..."
"What?"
"You are gonna tell me the same thing as the last time, but, will you go out with me?"
"Oh...Ginny, I..."
Ginny hung her head. She knew she'd get that.
"That's okay Harry, I understand, don't say anymore."
"Oh, okay then..."
Harry leaned over and kissed Ginny.
Ginny's eyes widened as she fell into the kiss.
"I thought you meant no.." Ginny said sheepishly.
"Oh, you want that to be the answer?"
"Heck, no!"
"Okay then, why are you complaining?"
"I dunno..."
"Okay then!"
Harry kissed Ginny again.
Part 2:
Chapter 1: Do You Really Love Me?
If I Told You...
If I told you I loved you, would you push me away? Or would you let me fall into your arms, where, forever, I would stay?
If I told you I needed you, would you feel the same? Could you let me need you everyday, forever and eternally?
If I told you I hated you, would you believe the words I say, Would you turn your back on me and leave me alone to pray?
If I told you I was crying, would you be right by my side, to put your arms around my shoulders until the feelings pass me by?
If I told you everything, could you still feel the same? Now that you know exactly who I am, would you still be mine to claim?
If I told you...
Well, Harry has gone out to help fight the battle... I hope he'll be okay...
He left three nights ago, so, he is probably getting medical attention or...
Oh, here comes Hedwig, maybe she has something for me!
Dear Ginny...
Look outside...
LOVE,
Harry
Well, that was short... I looked outside and, sure enough Harry was coming through the woods near the hut. I ran out towards him and discovered that he had a sling on his right arm.
"Harry! Are you okay??" I said.
"Yea, I only broke it."
Harry hugged me one-armed and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
