"I never loved him. He never loved me. But, now I love him, now that we're through..."
Her voice trailed off as she stared out the window, looking out of it but not really seeing it. It was a bright autumn day and their was an all-day Hogsmeade trip, but for some reason he had decided not to go. She sat back down on her four-poster bed and picked up her book.
Down in the common room, Neville Longbottom looked up from his half finished Herbology essay, as a heavenly voice floated down the girls' dormitory stairs.
"I never loved him. He never loved me. But, now I love him, now that we're through..."
"It sounded like the voice of an angle," Neville thought. The fire in the grate crackled merrily, and Neville smiled. It was a nice day, but he really needed to finish his homework.
He cocked his head to one side, the voice had stopped. Throwing caution to the wind, he decided to go and find out just who was singing.
Creak! Maddy's head snapped up from her book. She shook her head, thinking that it was just her imagination. Creak! She jumped up from her bed, there was that noise again! She heard the noise coming closer and closer.
Neville was the sound Maddy heard coming up the stairs. He flinched as the stairs creaked under his feet. He peered through each of the dormitory doors as he climbed the spiraling stairs. Finally he came to the fifth year's door, and he saw her.
Her name was Madison Rose Dominique. Her nickname was Maddy and she had been first introduced to the group through Hermione, who took Arithmancy with her. She had beautiful dark auburn-brown hair that curled just right, and dark mysterious brown eyes.
Quietly Neville knocked on the door. He saw Maddy jump, and pick up a heavy, lethal looking metal pipe.
"W-who's there?" she said in a shaky voice.
"Its j-just me, N-Neville," he said, his heart had somehow seemed to have jumped into his throat. The only time he had ever approached a girl was when he asked Hermione to the Yule Ball last year, and look how that had turned out.
He saw Maddy heave a huge sigh of relief and set the pipe down on the floor.
"Oh my gosh Neville, you scared me there for a second," she said, laughing a little, "I thought I was the only on in the Tower."
"C-can I c-come in?" said Neville, his stomach wriggling like worms.
"Yea, sure," said Maddy coming to open the door, just at the same time as Neville was stepping through it.
They met face to face, about an inch apart.
Harry, Ron and Hermione walked back into the Gryffindor Common Room, there cheeks rosy and flushed from the harsh autumn breeze. They looked around the Common Room, it was strangely empty.
"Neville? Neville? Are you there?" Harry called out. He didn't hear any voices but heard a scurrying, perhaps of feet, moving upstairs. But he didn't think anything of it.
"Where do you think-,"
"Neville is? I don't know," said Ron, finishing Harry's sentence.
"Well, I'm going to go and put my bag back up in the dormitory," said Hermione, and in a flash, she had disappeared up the stairs.
"Her a minute or two Harry and Ron just stood around in the Common Room until they heard hurried footsteps coming down the girls' stairs. Hermione returned to sight, looking very shocked, but oddly happy.
"What is it?" said Harry and Ron together, looking worried.
Hermione was so out of breath that they couldn't understand what she was trying to say, but odd words kept fluttering out of her mouth, words like, "Neville," "Maddy," and "kissing."
Harry looked even more shocked and Ron's eyes were bulging.
"C'mon!" said Hermione and she tore off back up the stairs, Harry and Ron following right behind her.
As they rounded the corner, they saw what had Hermione had saw.
"Oh my!" said Maddy, as she saw them coming up the stairs and ran into the dormitory, slamming the door shut. Neville looked back at Harry, Ron and Hermione, looking shocked, but oddly happy.
