Author's Note:
Tonks/Lupin my second favourite ship. (Ron and Hermione, you can't beat it) but Tonks and Lupin were meant to be. For all you Tonks/Lupin shippers.

Tonks sighed as she picked up the dishes she had knocked on the floor. What is it with me, she thought. I can't do anything right. How I ever became an Auror..."

She carefully placed the dishes down on the large wooden table, taking care not to knock anything over in the process, and sat down on one of he scrubbed wooden chairs. Get a grip, Tonks, she told herself. If you carry on life this, they'll be nothing left of the house. She knew she was driving Molly Weasley's nerves to breaking point.

There were muffled noises from upstairs. The others were stirring. For once, Tonks was the first one up, and she had stupidly attempted to make breakfast. Bad move. Tonks had learned that attempting to help in any way at all was a bad move. The twins at least, seemed to like her constant 'Making a Scene' as Sirius called it. She smiled. Sirius was used to her. He had always thought it was hilarious how Tonks could break so many things with so little effort. Sirius was her favourite cousin.

There were footsteps on the landing. Tonks looked up suddenly. It had become like a sixth sense. When you stay in a house with six Weasley children for long enough, you learn to be on your guard.

It was Remus Lupin. He smiled as he entered the kitchen.

"Morning, Nympha-"

"Remus!"

He smiled. "Sorry. Morning Tonks."

"That's better," she grinned. "I do wish you wouldn't call me Nymphadora."

"Well," he said, sitting down on the chair opposite her "It is your name."

Tonks said nothing. She just smiled. Lupin always trying to call her Nymphadora. It seemed an ongoing thing with him. He was never cruel, no. Tonks was certain that Remus Lupin couldn't be cruel it his life depended on it. He was friendly, and seemed to think that it was politer to call her by her first name.

Lupin was examining the breakfast bowls.

"Oh, I thought I'd better put them down before I broke them all," Tonks muttered quietly, he head back in her hands. "Molly would have I fit, I think I've broken nearly all of them. We'll be eating off the table by next week."

Lupin smiled again and surveyed Tonks for a moment.

"I know the feeling," he said softly. "Werewolves don't tend to be too picky about what or, indeed who they smash up while in wolf form.

Tonks looked up. She felt a sudden stab of guilt. Here she was feeling sorry for herself because she broke a few dishes occasionally, and the man in front of her, Remus Lupin, had had to live with being part animal all his life, and would have to for the rest of it. She had never before felt sorry for Remus; on the contrary, she admired him. Whenever there was trouble or danger, he seemed to be everyone's support. He wasn't exactly big on showing his feelings, it was more his matter of fact attitude to life and the way he handled difficult situations. Everyone seemed to turn to him. She knew for one, that Harry admired him. Not quite as much as perhaps he looked up to Sirius, but she knew he thought highly of him.

Some of her guilt most have shown on her face, as Lupin opened his mouth again.

"You shouldn't be too hard on yourself, Tonks," he said. "From what I've heard you aced Auror training."

"I didn't," she said "I almost failed on Stealth and Tracking."

"Tonks," said Lupin, a serious tone to his voice now. "Don't put yourself down. You're an intelligent young witch, you've got a great future ahead of you."

Tonks snorted without meaning too.

"Dumbledore thinks very highly of you."

Tonks blinked and let this fact register.

"He does?"

"Oh yes," Lupin said, surveying her closely again, trying to read her expression. "Why else would he have enlisted you into the Order? He thinks your worthy of such a responsibility. And Dumbledore of all people knows about your clumsiness, you having accidentally set fire to the desk in his office in your fifth year so I'm told."

Tonks smiled in spite of herself. "It took him three hours to put it out. I burned it to cinders. But he said I did him a favour, he was throwing it out anyway. But I bet he only said that to make me feel better-"

CRACK

Fred and George materialized instantly at either side of Tonks. Tonks jumped a foot in the air, knocking the breakfast dishes off the table. Lupin dived to catch them, and succeeded in grabbing three, but the remaining five that had survived Tonks until now shattered onto the floor.

"I'm sorry, Remus!" Tonks wailed, as Lupin placed the dishes he'd caught back on the table and began to pick up the pieces of the broken ones. Tonks dived to help him, but as she did so, she knocked the chair behind her backwards; it went careering across the room as if it were possessed and hit the dresser at the other end of the kitchen. The top draw of the dresser flew open and knives, forks and all kinds of other cutlery flew out of it and soared across the room right at Tonks, Fred and George. Fred grabbed George and pulled him to the floor as he ducked out of the way of the a flock of spoons.. Lupin grabbed Tonks by the shoulders and pulled her towards him out of the line of fire of an extremely large carving knife, which would have otherwise without a doubt, taken her head clean off.

Tonks opened her eyes, which she had shut tightly she she'd seen the carving knife come at her. She was shaking. Lupin was still holding her tightly to him, as if waiting for more cutlery to come zooming at them.

Fred and George had got to their feet, white-faced.

"I - I" Tonks began. She seemed unable to speak, and she couldn't remember ever being so scared. Nothing in Auror training taught a person how to survive a carving knife coming at them at an immense speed. She wished she could stop shaking so violently. Lupin seemed scared to let go of her in case she fell over. He sat her down on the seat next to him.

Fred and George were quickly getting over there shock.

"Fred," said George. "I've had an idea. New product, flying cutlery, it would be dead useful. People could sit at their tables and wait for their knives and forks to come to them!"

"Yeah, great!"

The two of them made there way towards the kitchen door having only just entered it to discus their new business ideas. Fred stopped to ask Tonks if she was ok, George looking concerned. She managed a nod, and Lupin mouthed "Fetch Molly" to Fred, and he nodded and left with George.

"Remus, I - I" Tonks began again.

"It's fine Tonks really," he said smiling warmly.

"I - It isn't," she stammered. "I - I'm dangerous, Remus."

Lupin placed an arm on her shoulder. "You are not."

"I am! I just nearly killed Fred and George, and you-"

"I think it was you who were most a risk, Tonks. And these accidents happen, no one's to blame."

"T - Thank you," she said softly.

"What for?"

"F-for saving m-my neck," then she added "For saving my life."

Lupin smiled. "I'd hardly call it saving your life, Nymphadora.

For once, Tonks didn't correct him.

"Thank you all the same Remus." She said, looking up at him, fighting back tears. "I could have killed all three of you..."

Lupin took her hand kindly. "It'll take more than flying cutlery to finish off a Weasley."

Tonks managed a weak smile.

There were more loud footsteps in the hall. Molly Weasley came hurrying into the kitchen. Her eyes darted from Lupin and Tonks, to the broken dishes still littering the floor, to spoons scattered around the kitchen, and to the carving knife, which had stuck into the kitchen wall.

"What on earth has being going on here?"

"I'm sorry Molly-" Tonks began, but Lupin cut across her.

"It's my fault Molly." Tonks stared at him, and Lupin gave her a look that told her not to interrupt. "Tonks was making breakfast for us all," he said "and I came down, and erm, well I had a little accident with the dresser. You'd be surprised how clumsy I can be." His eyes were twinkling. He glanced at Tonks, who was wearing a look half way between appreciation and guilt. Why should Lupin have to take the blame for her?

"And you see, I must have knocked it, or something," Lupin continued, "Because allot of cutlery came flying out of it across the room."

"I - I see." Molly said weakly.

"And it would have grievously injured the twins, if it wasn't for allot of quick thinking from Tonks." he finished. Tonks was trying to look as if this story wasn't new to her.

"Well... is everyone ok?" Mrs Weasley said, trying to sound as sharp as she could.

"Oh, yes everyone's just fine. Tonks is a little shell shocked, in fact I think it best if she goes up to bed for a little while, if you don't mind Molly?"

"Yes, yes of course, you go and have a lie down dear." Molly said bracingly to Tonks.

Lupin led her out of the kitchen and into the hall. She was still a little shaky on her feet.

"Why did you do that Remus?" Tonks said when they were in the hall and safely out of hearing range of Molly.

"Sorry," he said "Do what?"

Tonks smiled. "Nothing."

She allowed him to lead her up the rickety staircase.
