My Favorite Assignment

I don't know how many times I've waken up from dreams and not had her laying next to me. But this morning I finally felt complete. It was the best morning I have had since the night before we left for training. That night, I had had a nightmare and she came in to calm me down. In the process, she had fallen asleep next to me. Nothing else. Just simple sleep. Exactly like what happened last night. I opened my home to her and she accepted. She hadn't seen the old place in years, yet she still remembered where she slept the first time almost seven years ago. She heard me screaming, again and came to my rescue. Who could ask for anything more?

"Good morning love," I whisper. Slowly a smile creeps on to her face.

"Hmm...love. I like it. Are you feeling better now? Love?" She giggles as she ends the last sentiment.

"Just fine. They aren't as bad as they were while we were at school."

"Well, that's good. What's on the agenda for today?" Leave it to Hermione to need a plan.

"Well, I was thinking breakfast then going out and finding you a ring." She opens her eyes wide. I had a feeling she wasn't expecting me to get a ring this early.

"But...but...Harry."

"Keep your butt in your knickers please. Just stay here, I'll make breakfast."

"You don't have to," she yawns.
"I'll be back in ten minutes," I whisper. I scoot off the bed, pull the drapes closed and walk out to the kitchen.

It feels odd making breakfast for two instead of one. Okay, it feels weird making breakfast. Usually, I'm in such a rush that I don't bother making anything. I'm not going to tell her that though. She'd scold me for hours on end about how the day starts with a good breakfast.

The eggs and kippers are easily done in five minutes. I dish it out onto plates and put them on a tray. I levitate the tray of delicious scents up to my room. The sight before my eyes makes me smile. How I love to see her sleeping. It's so peaceful, I'm sure she could say the same for me. Well, before the never ceasing nightmares kick in to high gear.

"Breakfast is ready," I whisper.

"Mmm....smells good. Smells like eggs and kippers. Yummy!" Every once in a while, when she's not paying attention, she'll revert back to the little girl I grew up with.

After Harry and I ate breakfast, he ran in and took a shower. I still can't believe that he's going to buy me a ring. This fast, for crying out loud, we just decided on this last night!

"Harry, I still can't believe that you're going to buy a ring for me."

"Hermione, we're going to do this the right way. After we buy the ring, we'll go and visit Ginny. She's dying to talk to you. She'll be able to help you with the wedding."

"Harry, you really want to do this."

For about two minutes, we just stared at each other. I must admit, I made the first move, literally. I stepped towards him, he then rushed toward me, wrapped his arms around me and we kissed for the second time. This was more like the initial gun shot for an all out snog session.

Then I heard something that was all too familiar with the office area. Someone was trying to contact Harry via floo. Turns out, there's one thing, at least, that hasn't changed about our dear Ronald Weasley; he's never been so good on his timing.

"Oy! Harry! Where are you mate?" Ron yelled.

"Right here Ron, open your eyes will ya?" Harry sighed then proceeded to hit Ron upside his head.

"Ow! Oh, sorry, did I disturb you? What're you...Bullocks! Harry, I think you hit me pretty hard. I think I'm seeing things!" Leave it to Ron to be the observant one. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Ron, you twit, I'm really here."

"Luna! Luna, Hermione's back! Harry, owl Ginny and Mum and, oh hell, owl the whole world! Hermione's back!"

"Wow, you'd think I died," I muttered to Harry. "Have I mentioned that I love to see you smile?" His smile momentarily faded and when I frowned back at him, his smile returned ten fold.

Ron's screams had subsided. He was now staring at us, his two best friends, holding one another. Here he goes...

"Ron, before you get all weird on us, what did you need to talk to me about?"

"What? Oh yeah! Luna's results are back. Turns out we're having twins."

"That's great Ron! We'll have to have a celebration once everyone else knows. Oh, speaking of, when's the Quidditch match?"

"Maybe you need a check up. 'When's the Quidditch match?' who'd ever thought that the youngest seeker in a century would forget when a bloody Quidditch match was?"

Ron winced at the sound of his wife's voice scolding him at using such language around their child.

"Sorry love," he called back, "Anyway Harry, the game is on Friday at seven. Don't forget."

"I won't."

"It was nice to see you Hermione. We'd better see more of you. You have to come and visit with Luna sometime, she's hopelessly lonely when I'm at work."

"Will do Ron."

"Well, I gotta go, Luna's got another appointment. See ya!"

Harry looked from the spot that our best friend was at to me. I look up at him, realizing how much taller he has gotten in the past three years. With great softness he kisses me. I close my eyes and he kisses my closed eyelids. It is the best sensation in the world. Finally, our lips meet. We sit on the couch, snogging for about ten minutes.

"Now, what about that ring?"
