Chapter 11

"Hello ladies and gentleman," Josh announced to the Malfoy party. He was holding a guitar in his hand with Damien holding one behind him. Dess was sitting patiently twirling drumsticks in her hands. "Although this party is very nice, we think it needs a bit of music for the young," Josh said politely. "It just so happens that we can play," Josh added grinning. "So, let's meet the band. I'm Josh Gilbert. I play guitar and do vocals. That's Damien, he's bass and vocals. Dessie back there on drums. She sings beautifully but that will be later in the show," Josh promised. "Now let's rock!" Josh said motioning to Dess to start. She grinned. Damien stepped up and magicing the microphone so that it actually worked. He laughed slightly.

"I wrote this a couple of days ago," Damien said grinning. "Hope you like it. It's called First Date." At that Dess started to play. Damien sang:

"In my car I just can't wait

To pick you up on our very first date

Is it cool if I hold your hand?

Is it wrong if I think it's lame to dance?

Would you guess that I didn't know what to wear?

Let's make this last forever." Damien and Josh blended the last note. Cheers rang out from all the younger people in the rooms. Polite claps were all the adults gave.

"Next up, would be something I wrote," Josh said. "I wrote this about a girl I like. Everyone else but her knows and I've played this song in front of her a million times and she still doesn't get it," Josh said exasperated. "But, oh well, she's found love. It's called "The Girl All the Bad Guys Want." Then he started to play. The instruments played for about 10 seconds before Josh came in with vocals:

I'll I got's a moped." More laughter rang from the crowd and even the adults were laughing.

Josh still sang on:

"Now that I have sung and Damien too, our last performer is... well... better. I give you Desdemona Potter!" Josh announced. Dess stepped out from behind the drums shyly and walked to the front of the stage. She searched the crowd for someone then finally threw her drumsticks out. Hades beside Harry caught them easily and twirled them.

"This one is good, Harry," Hades said strolling up to the stage. Harry looked over to where Fred was standing with George. He was watching Dess with curious eyes.

"Hello," Dess said softly into the microphone. Harry could tell she was nervous by the way her hand shook. Hades reached the stage and was behind the drums. "This is a song I wrote a couple of years ago and it's one of my favorites. Josh will be helping me with vocals. It's called Bring Me to Life," at that Dess motioned for Draco to play. He nodded and his hands caressed the ivory keys for about 10 seconds before Dess' pure voice piped in:

"How can you see into my eyes?

Where I've become so numb?" Damien, Josh, and Hades now came in with drums and the guitars. No one was expecting it but it sounded great and the music blended perfectly. Dess went on:

Until you find it there and lead it back home." Harry stared in astonishment at his cousin. He had never heard such a pure voice. It was beautiful. From the reactions of everyone around him, they had noticed too. When she had strung out the first note, Harry watched her relax. She went on now with Josh singing too: (Everything that Josh is singing will be in parenthesis)

Bring me to life." Dess turned to Josh and sauntered over to him as he played the guitar. The scene was breath taking. They were both making it as if it was a movie. They were both pleading with their eyes and begging with their voices as they blended. They were made for this business. Dess went on:

Only you are the life among the dead." Harry watched as his cousin turned to Josh as she sang and he answered her:

As soon as the last note was played, cheers and applause rang through the ballroom, shocking Dess who was standing on the stage. She lowered her head as she blushed. "Thank you," she said softly giving the microphone back to Josh who grinned at her.

"That's all we have for you tonight," Josh said. "I'm glad you like and I hope well have the pleasure to do this again." Josh bowed along with Hades, Dess, Draco, and Damien. Applause once again rang through the room and Ginny closed the curtains.
