Chapter 1
Harry Potter was laying on his bed, at his summer home with the Dursley's. Harry had always dreaded going back to stay with them for the summer, but this year it was intolerable. Harry had recently had a very bad encounter with his most feared enemy---Voldemort. Although, Harry took it better than expected.
"Harry!"
Aunt Petunia's shrill voice made Harry come back to reality.
"Hurry up!"
"Coming," he shouted back annoyed.
Harry hurriedly pulled himself out of bed.
What do they want now?
Harry realized that his Uncle Vernon must be having company over, considering how much food Aunt Petunia had made.
"Now boy, we will not have a repeat of last time we had company." Harry could see that Uncle Vernon's hands were balled into fists. "You will make absolutely no noise---do you understand?
"Yes, sir"
"Good." Uncle Vernon relaxed his hands. "Now hurry up to your room, they will be here any minute."
Harry grudgingly walked swiftly back up the stairs. Harry had recently noticed how many letters he had been getting; it had to at least be five every week. "Who has written to me today, Hedwig?" Harry asked while flopping back down on his bed. "Only one today, who could it be?" Harry snatched the letter from Hedwig's beak, and patted her to show his gratitude. He quickly opened the letter and read it.
Dear Harry,
How are you? Does your scar hurt?
Have you heard from Snuffles lately? I hope you don't mind me writing so often to you, I just want to make sure you're OK. Have you talked to Ron lately? He told me that he had been writing you a lot also. Anyway, have you read any books lately? I just got finished with this wonderful one called Using Simple Spells in Everyday Life, you should read it! Please reply as soon as you can; everyone is really worried about you.
Love from
Hermione
Harry sighed; he didn't know why everyone was so protective of him. I can take care of myself fine! Harry thought in annoyance. Harry reluctantly wrote back.
Dear Hermione,
I'm fine---no, my scar doesn't hurt. Yes---snuffles has written a lot lately, as is everyone else, including Ron. You really don't have to worry; everything will be better as soon as I get out of here. I'm hoping Dumbledore will let me go to Ron's soon.
Harry
Harry put down the letter. Short and simple, he thought. "Here you go Hedwig---take this to Hermione." With a small hoot she had gone. Harry sighed; everyone treated him like he was still a baby.
Then Harry heard a car door slam---Uncle Vernon's guests. He noticed that it took them an abnormally long time to come to the door. He could hear the heavy stomps of Vernon and Dudley Dursley---Aunt Petunia was, of course, very silent. He knew that they were waiting in anticipation for them to come inside; it was quite a long time.
What is going on?
BANG!
The loud pounding on the door was followed by the hushed voice of Vernon Dursley. "They're here!" Harry listened intently to the voices coming from the downstairs---then, something made Harry's heart pound hard into his chest. The voice---he knew that voice!
This couldn't be happening! Harry sank low into his bed, this wasn't happening! Harry realized sitting there wouldn't help him any; he had to be sure. Harry quietly walked out of his room, to the staircase. He got himself positioned so he could see who was talking---luckily, they hadn't moved to the living room yet. Harry peered through the banister; he had been right. The voice had undoubtedly belonged to Lucius Malfoy.
