"Not all wizards are created equal." This quote's relevance is evident in the bloodline of the Black family. Our roots reach back to the Middle Ages, and our family heirlooms are numerous and often powerful. One needs only to look at the sprawling family tree to get an idea of the nobleness of the Black blood. We have constantly aided the Ministry of Magic, there is usually a Black in Hogwarts, and we have strong ties with other pureblood families. And with good reason, for we purebloods were the first to be wizards, the first to lead society, and we deserve better for that.

Of course, looking at the family tree, one also gets an idea of the people who turned their backs on their blood. Their names are not present, and they are noted only by their absence. It pains me to count the burns, to see how many fine young wizards chose to join the blood traitors, brats, and Mudbloods, but it does not pain me to do what I must do now. I must now burn off the name of my eldest son, Sirius Black.

It doesn't pain me to destroy the boy's ties to our family. He is a filthy bastard of a blood traitor, unworthy to wipe slime off of the house-elf. Before we sent him to Hogwarts, he was a good enough boy--surly at times, but he had healthy, pure-blooded friends. After his second year, to our horror, we found out that he'd become friendly with half-breeds, blood traitors, Mudbloods, even (Merlin forbid) werewolves. It can be understood how pained I was to see this transformation, and so, fulfilling my duty as a parent, I tried to bring him back to the world he was born in. Needless to say, I failed. Not more than two days ago, the ungrateful little whelp ran from home.

After I burn said whelp's name, I see his brother's name next to his. Regelus is a good lad, and a wonderful son. He fully understands and appreciates the meaning of wizard, and embraces his parents and background. He has made good, solid friends at school, namely Adrian Nott, Lucius Malfoy, and his cousin Bellatrix Black. Now, he is an only child, my only son. Sirius Black no longer exists in my life. He is living proof that not all wizards are created equal.

It is difficult for me to comprehend why some pure-blood wizards want so badly to eliminate Muggle-borns and Muggles, almost as if it were a kind of genocide. Aren't we people too? And aren't Muggle-borns capable of magic as well? I honestly don't see the difference in type of blood. Take my new friend Sirius Black for example. He's a member of a pure-blood family as old as any, and yet he would consistently fail Potions and Charms both if he didn't copy my notes all the time. Same thing with my boyfriend, James Potter. When he was trying to charm that map, he constantly needed help and advice on how to lock the blasted thing, and he's pure-blood too.

As wizards, we have great power, but we also have responsibility to that power. We are responsible for our fellow magical creatures, for Muggles, and for our fellow wizards. Some people say that "Not all wizards are created equal." I believe that to be true, but in a different way. For example, the lowlifes in Slytherin House who have nothing better to do than discriminate, destroy, and backstab are not created equal with Remus Lupin, who is one of the sweetest and kindest people I've ever known. The headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, was not created equal with the new rising Dark Lord.

It's a naïve outlook on life, but I believe that eventually, goodness, kindness, and tolerance will prevail. But that does not mean that in the meantime, I'm going to sit and do nothing about it. As of right now, anyone who calls me a Mudblood receives a slap across the face. Anyone who dares to insult my friends gets a little poke with a wand. The evildoers and the prejudiced in this world prove that no one is created equal.

*************************************************************************************************

This is difficult for me to say, because it makes me sound heartless, but I must do it for the sake of honesty. Why all the fuss over blood purity? I would give up ten, twenty, thirty years of my life to just be a normal wizard, with normal strength, human blood. They don't know how lucky they are, these other people who squabble over the littlest things in life. They don't understand how isolated I feel from them, as if I'm not really human, which I'm not. I wouldn't care if I were a "Mudblood", "half-blood", or "pure-blood", so long as it was human blood that ran through my veins.

Yes, so perhaps the Muggle-borns are isolated from many old, pure-blooded families, but I am isolated from all of humanity. It's difficult for me not to pity myself when others are debating over useless trivia such as this. At least they're not werewolves. At least they don't have to dread the full moon, and painfully transform into a monster with no mind, no heart, and no soul. Sometimes I just feel like strangling the people who complain that they're only half-blood, or that their family only goes back four generations. They don't know what true loneliness, true isolation is. They don't know how awful it feels to attack your best friend and not remember what you did.

I harbor no fantasies about werewolf rights and bigotry. Wizards are not going to change their views within my lifetime. The only wizard who has ever made provision for me was Albus Dumbledore. He understood that as long as you can do magic, nothing else matters. Blood doesn't matter, family doesn't matter, monster afflictions don't matter. That, in my opinion, makes Albus Dumbledore the greatest wizard in the world. Although not all wizards are created equal, he treats everything and everyone with kindness and respect.

A/N: The whole fuss over blood got me thinking...what does poor Remus think of all this crap? This is a by-product of my messed-up head, and I know I rambled on a bit in some of the stuff, but oh well.
