- Author's Note:
- This fic looks at the world of Hogwarts from a different angle. i just thought 'd write one like this. Not sure why really. If you like it pleeease review!!!
It was the last Quidditch match of the season. Ravenclaw were playing Slytherin and Slytherin were winning seventy to sixty. However Cho Chang managed to catch the snitch before Draco Malfoy meaning Ravenclaw won 200 to 70. It was a good game and afterwards there was to be a ball in the Great Hall to celebrate the two captains last games. Everyone had two hours till the ball was due to start, so while the students and player went to get changed and get ready, families were able to have free time to take one last look at the school, especially for Calvin's family.
Alicia followed her Mum and Dad as they walked through the not so familiar corridors. She didn't go to Hogwarts and never will. She was fifteen and a muggle. She lived a normal life with her wizard father and muggle mother in Southampton. She'd never had the chance to come to Hogwarts, she'd always either been too busy or had been left at home. He brother, Calvin, was the keeper and captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team; therefore she thought she should come.
Alicia was bored waiting for the ball to start so she pulled out her mobile phone, only to find she had no signal. Then again she couldn't call her friends. She'd told them she was going to her brother's graduation dinner at his private school in Scotland so she couldn't just phone them. Instead she left her parents and went outside. There were a few students walking around, chatting. Maybe they are just like me, she thought. She sat with he back against a tree and fiddled with the tassels on the belt of her jeans. Fortunately, for muggles anyway, dress robes were not to be worn. Smart, casual clothes would do. Alicia had settled for her flared jeans and a khaki camisole. She had pulled her dark hair into two plaits and had placed sunglasses on her head.
Alicia found herself gazing at the vast grounds of Hogwarts. Then out of the corner of her eye she saw that blond guy again. He'd obviously just come out of the changing rooms after playing quidditch. He was the Slytherin seeker. She watched him and the rest of the team walk up to Hogwarts. She remembered how amazing he looked on a broom. Alicia's gaze followed him until he passed from sight.
Alicia stayed outside, and then looked at her watch before deciding she'd better go and find her parents.
The Great Hall looked amazing. It was full of people, there were tables with food, a dance floor and a band playing, that Alicia didn't know. Her parents wondered off so she went and sat by herself. About ten minutes in her brother appeared and started talking to her. She hadn't seen him all year so it was nice. After a while his friends joined him, and Alicia realised he was quite popular. Fortunately for her they included her in the conversations, where they could. As they started to dance she joined them and it was fun. Most of the evening she stayed with her brother's friends, except when she was asked to dance by other guys of course.
At about 11 o'clock Alicia went to get a drink. She poured herself some pink punch and went outside for some fresh air. There was a little breeze and it was nice. She pulled out her phone again, but it still had no signal.
'Why doesn't my phone bloody work?'
'Hey, what's that?' Alicia spun around and came face to face with the blond guy.
'What's this?' she replied, pointing to the phone. If it was one thing she remembered it was that wizards don't have muggle technology. 'Oh it's nothing, don't worry.' She glanced at his smooth face and grey eyes. He has nice eyes, she thought. 'Anyway, shouldn't you be in there with that girl dancing all over you?' He laughed.
'You mean Pansy? You're kidding right? I don't actually like the girl. So what about you? Where's your date?'
'Don't have one.'
'Don't tell me a pretty girl like you hasn't got a date?'
'I know it may be hard to believe, but all the guys who asked me were jerks.' He laughed again.
'By the way I'm Draco Malfoy.' He extended his hand.
'I'm Alicia Palmer.' She took his hand, but instead of shaking it he brought it up and pressed his lips to her hand. She gave him a 'ha ha' kind of smile before he said,
'May I escort you to the ball?' She laughed and said,
'Yes you may.' He took her arm and led her back inside. As they entered the hall a slow song started and Alicia found herself being led onto the dance floor. His grip on her moved as his arms encircled her waist, instinctively her arms went around his neck. For the first time she got a good look at him. He was wearing dark green trousers and a black shirt. Stylish, she thought. His pale blond hair was slicked back and his features were clearly defined. He was gorgeous, but that didn't matter. From listening to her brother's stories Draco was an arrogant bastard, hating muggleborns. She imagined Draco's reaction to her being muggle and smiled.
'What're you smiling at?' he whispered. She drew her arms closer around his neck and whispered in his ear.
'The fact that half the girls here now hate me.' He smirked.
'Well, I do happen to have that affect on girls.' Even though the words 'slimy git' reverberated in her mind she couldn't hide the fact that he felt so nice in her arms. His warm arms were resting on her hips as they revolved on the spot.
When the song came to an end couples broke apart and applauded the band. Alicia released her grip on Draco slightly till she was facing him. He said to her.
'You look so different from everybody else and it makes you gorgeous.' He stroked her cheek and pressed his lips to hers. His lips were soft and before she knew it she was kissing him back, slowly and subtly. Her arms were still around his neck and she pulled him closer, deepening the kiss, his tongue battling hers for control.
When she pulled back from the kiss she felt his quick, hot breath on her cheek. She took her time to look into his eyes before walking away.
Alicia collapsed on her bed. School had finished and she had six weeks of no work. She planned to meet up with her friends, go to the beach, and spend two weeks in France. She'd never been abroad. Only to Ireland and Scotland, but they didn't really count. She was even excited about the ferry over, even though it was five hours.
She'd spent the last week packing. Her suitcase was stuffed and her backpack was bulging. Alicia stared at them from her bed and a smile crept across her face.
She now had one day before having to get up at five the next morning to drive up to the ferry port. She had tried many times to imagine it, but she just couldn't. She didn't know what to expect.
At 11 o'clock Alicia climbed into bed. She had just been talking to her friend on the Internet, but decided she should at least get some sleep.
It seemed ages before her Dad came in to get her up. It was just starting to get light as they climbed into the car to get to the port. The drive was about twenty minutes and they drove onto the ferry and climbed the stairs to find their seats. Alicia was tired so she slept most of the way, though at one point she went outside. The sea breeze was wonderful. She let it blow through her hair. It woke her up fully.
To Alicia it felt strange not being able to se land. The sea surrounded her. It was great. The weather stayed nice and the five hours passed in no time.
They arrived at midday and spent the day driving. This part was incredibly boring. It took a day and a half of driving to reach their destination. Alicia spent most of the time sleeping or talking to Calvin about Hogwarts. She managed to ask about certain people as well, though it was subtly done. She didn't think he'd seen her with Draco, which was good in her opinion.
They finally arrived at the campsite and Alicia and Calvin out up their tent. Her brother hadn't been camping in ages. They used to do it a lot when they were younger.
On the third day Alicia went down to the beach. She'd seen some caves in the cliff and wanted to explore. Her brother was lying on the sand sunbathing.
Alicia turned her back to the clear water and walked towards the cliffs. The cave was about two metres up so she carefully climbed up and pulled herself onto the ledge. However this was just a ledge. There wasn't anything exciting like a long tunnel. Feeling a bit disappointed she sat on the ledge and gazed out at the sea. The blue ocean was glorious, especially where the sun glistened off the surface. It wasn't like the sea at home, which was grey, full of people's crap and cold. Alicia lay down to sunbathe a bit, when she heard voices, two guys.
'We're staying here?'
'Yes. Shhh, keep quiet.'
'For how long?'
'I don't know, but get used to it.' Then a girls voice entered.
'Darling are you sure we'll be ok here?'
'Yes. He'll never suspect me to be here. Come on Narcissa. You know the situation.' She was silent. She obviously knew it. Alicia was curious. The voices were coming from above. Maybe there's another cave above this one I can actually get to, she thought. Standing on the far edge of the ledge Alicia could see the ledge a few feet up. No problem, she thought. Using her hands she pulled herself up only so far so she could see into the cave. This one was bigger. It looked empty, but Alicia guessed the people had gone inside. Just as she began to pull herself up onto the ledge she heard them coming. Swiftly she dropped down to land on her ledge. She stayed silent. Two of them were coming. She listened closely. One was the woman's and the other belonged to the older of the two guys.
'I'm just worried, you know?' said the woman.
'Just make sure you aren't seen, or that's only by muggles. We can't risk it. We'll have to drop the name Malfoy. It's too well known.' Did he say Malfoy? As in Draco Malfoy? Alicia strained her ears, eager to hear more. 'From now on I'm Dave Miles. You will be Sarah Miles, and Draco will be Scott Miles. Remember it.'
'I'm worried for Draco- I mean Scott.'
'He'll be fine. Leave him to me.' They both disappeared again. So he did mean Draco. Oh my God, Draco is in that cave. She was so deep in her thoughts and she didn't hear the lone footsteps above until a stone was kicked off the ledge and a voice murmured something. She didn't catch it. Alicia took a chance on it being Draco. Careful not to make too much noise she stretched her arms up to hook onto the ledge. Once she had a good enough grip she pulled herself up so only her head was visible. Draco was sat on the other side of the ledge, back against the stone, gazing out to sea. Once she was sure he was oblivious to her she hauled herself up. Draco started so much he almost fell off the side of the ledge. Alicia cracked up, though she tried not to make too much sound in case the others came back. He was looking at her in a way that said I'll-get-you. When Alicia had calmed down she said,
'Hey Draco. Oh my God, your face. Ahh, amusing. So anyway I didn't expect you to be here.' He continued to stare at her, but decided to let it go.
'Well, I didn't expect to see you again at all.' She looked at him. He folded his arms.
'What do you mean?'
'Well you left just after that dance. No goodbye or anything.' She smiled.
'Typical all round guy quality. Don't you get the hints? Look I didn't say goodbye because I planned to see you again. I say goodbye to those I won't see again.' He smiled and unfolded his arms.
'How do you know I'd be here?'
'Didn't. Fate must've brought us together.' They both laughed.
'So-' Draco started, but was interrupted by the other man.
'Draco who're you talking to?'
'Er... no one father.' Then to Alicia he whispered. 'Quick. Get off the ledge. He'll go ballistic if he sees you.' Alicia moved and dropped, but not before saying.
'There's another ledge down here. Shhh.' Then she disappeared. Just in time to. She heard what she guessed was Draco's father's footsteps followed by his voice.
'Who was here Draco?'
'No one father. I was... talking to myself.' There was a pause. Draco's father was obviously considering the excuse. He seemed satisfied because he continued.
'From now on Draco you will be known as Scott Miles. I am Dave and your mother Sarah. Do not forget it. I am going to look around the town. If you leave tell your mother. This is a serious situation.'
'I know father.'
'No fooling around.'
'Yes father. Um... father how will you gat down?'
'I will go up via the steps in the cliff face. I'll see you tonight.' Alicia heard various random noises next as Mr Malfoy, or Dave, climbed the stairs to top. Once she thought Dave was out of the way she said.
'Is it safe?'
'Wait a minute. I'll come down.' was the reply. Next she heard. 'Mum! I'm going for a walk along the beach.' There was a muffled 'Ok' before she saw Draco drop down beside her.
'Hello again,' she said.
'Hello.' They stood a moment before she said.
'Come down onto the beach. It's gorgeous.' She dropped down and he followed.
'So do you live here?' he asked. She laughed.
'Are you kidding? No I live in Southern England.' He merely nodded.
'This is a holiday then?' She nodded.
'Yeah, two weeks. It's gonna be great.'
After a while the two of them could be seen lying in the sun, a few feet from the water, still chatting. Then Draco said,
'It's so hot down here, I'm boiling.'
'I'm not surprised. You have a black T-shirt on. Take it off.' Alicia had discarded her top to show a green bikini top. Draco was now only wearing his beige shorts. He didn't look too bad actually. I suppose quidditch helps, she thought.
'I'm still hot you know,' he said. A smile crept on to her face.
'Lets go in the water then.' He stared sat her.
'What?' he said, while she pulled her shorts off to reveal a pair of green bikini shorts.
'Come on it'll be fun.' She stood up and held out a hand. He stared at her, then giving in and grabbing her hand. She pulled him up, tossed her glasses on her clothes and dragged him to the water. He stood at the edge, water up to his ankles.
'It's cold.'
'I know. Isn't it great.' Alicia, who was now up to her waist in water, splashed a huge load of water at him.
'Hey!' he said.
'What?' she replied. 'Just cooling you down.' He gave her a look and kicked a load of water back at her. He missed. She gave him a playful smile.
'Come on Draco. The water's great.' When he didn't come she walked up to him, intending to pull him in, but instead he pushed her back into the water. Unfortunately for him she grabbed him and pulled him over too. They fell into the water and Alicia came up laughing. When Draco's head emerged she said,
'I've had experience with my brother always doing that to me.' They both stood there, both soaking wet, both laughing.
'Ahh it's cold,' Draco said. He made to get out again. She grabbed his hand.
'No, stay in here with me.' She pulled him towards her, but instead he splashed her again and ran. She splashed him back. His hair was spiked up all over the place. It looked strange, but cool. They splashed around some more before getting back out, deciding they were cool enough. They collapsed on the hot sand, the sun drying their skin. It was a gorgeous day, not a cloud in sight. It was Draco who broke the silence.
'You know after you left, I kept thinking about you.' She turned to him.
'Really?'
'Yeah. It made my reputation suffer.' She laughed.
'That's good because I kept thinking about you too.' She paused then added. 'There's a cheesy disco tonight here on the beach. You want to go?'
'A cheesy disco?'
'Yeah. Come on it'll be fun.'
'Ok. You're on.'
'I'll meet you under the ledges at sevenish.'
'Fine.' They sat in silence a moment.
'I should be going back. Parents worrying and all.' Alicia stood up.
'Yeah, ok. See you tonight.' He stood up and stroked her cheek.
'Yeah, tonight.' She left and went to find her brother, who was just packing up his stuff.
'There you are. Cool, you coming back now?'
'Yes.'
