She's Cute
Chapter Two: I'm Smiling
'Because it's crowded in there!'
Hermione was walking down the staircases with Ginny; still going on for an idle conversation. Their hair waved slightly behind them as they reached the Entrance Hall. There could not be another crowded Friday evening in Hogwarts. Chattering and laughters were everywhere. Hermione herself would love to become one of the chattering person, unfortunately she had to do her Aritmanchy homework, and so had Ginny. She just mentioned why didn't they do it in their Common Room.
'OK, OK, I understand,' Ginny exclaimed playfully. 'I hate too skip dinner, but there we go.' She was now whispering, they had entered the Library. Soon, the girls took seats at the nearest table, taking out their books and parchments. Hermione fished her quill out and dipped it into Ginny's ink bottle and started to write. Several minutes later, she stopped, and searched her bag for something.
'Blast,' she whispered in the next moment. 'Your brother borrowed my book.'
'Really?' Ginny said with excitement, looking up. 'Good to hear!'
'What d'you mean 'good to hear'?' the older girl questioned.
'Finally you had to talk to him!' red hair said, shrugging. 'Why you seldom talk to him?' she asked. Hermione let out a dissapointed sigh.
'I guess I'm just not brave enough,' she admitted. 'I mean, how're you supposed to talk to an angel?'
A second after, Ginny bursted out laughing hardly. But then she sealed her mouth with her own hand, before Madam Pince scold her. It took her three minutes to stop giggling and able to form a sentence.
'Him? An angel? The power of love...,' she muttered then. The other girl smiled shyly, and rised from her chair.
'Where're you going?' Ginny asked again.
'Get my book back, of course!' Hermione replied. Then she exited the Library and off to the Great Hall. She approached the Griffindor table slowly, tracking for Ron. Then she saw him, sitting across Harry, her best friend. A jolt of happiness dropped into her stomach as their eyes locked. Hermione added her pace, and sat beside Ron; trying to keep an eye contact. She smiled.
'Hi,' she started. Deep down inside, she wanted to tell him how gorgeous his eyes were... But all she said was if he could give her book back.
'Oh! Yes, sorry,' he mumbled. With that, he seeked his bag for the book. Maybe it's just her eyes, but she thought the boy was blushing. However, Hermione turned to Harry and grinned. He replied the grin, nodding. Then she turned her face back to Ron, which was handing her the book. The girl thanked him, rising up.
'You may borrow it again after I'm finished with this,' Hermione told him, shaking her book. She wheeled around and ambled out of the Great Hall. When she went out of sight, she paused and took a deep breath of relief. Then she smiled to herself. She actually managed to say sentences in front of him! Still grinning to herself, she headed back to the Library.
'Why're you grinning like that?' Ginny asked, although knew what the answer would be. Hermione decided not to tell her, meanwhile her smiled widened. Ginny shook her head and continued with her homework... and so did Hermione.
* * *
Hermione and Ginny slipped back into their Common Room inaudibly. Ginny proceeded to her room, then realised Hermione was not on her heels.
'Aren't you coming?" she asked, after stopping.
Hermione followed Ginny, and gave her bag to her.
'Please put this inside my room... I want to read up some stuff here,' she asked her, smiling apologetically. Ginny sighed, but grinning slightly. She took her bag and went upstairs. Hermione sat on one the couch and picked up her book, which was lying there. She opened it and started to read. A minute later, she heard a voice behind her. She turned around.
It was Ron.
Her heart did a somersault in instant.
'Ron,' she said automatically. 'You had a great dinner?' was the only thing she could figure out at the moment.
'Sort of. Why didn't you come to dinner?'
'You know me! It's all about the homeworks!'
'But you need the energy to do them?' Ron said firmly. Hermione felt flames on her face and ears. He cared about her! She imagined herself dancing in the rain of Spring. She swam through his eyes depth and thanked him.
'For what?' he asked.
'Paying attention and caring about me,' she whispered gently. At this moment in time, Hermione had forgot anything but the lad in front of her. She even thought to hug and embrace him; and tell him how she had crush on him for so long.
'Care for a hang out?' Ron asked suddenly.
'Sure! We and Harry do hang out, don't we?'
'No, I mean, just the two of us.'
Hermione was ready to die in his arms already. She flushed with embarrasment and happiness. Ronald Weasley had just asked Hermione Granger for a date. She thought she will faint of gladness and relief. Finally!
'Say it! You're agree!' she minded.
'Absolutely,' she said. 'Yes, with pleasure. Actually, I'm mighty glad you asked,' she added, nodding. She smiled, and so did Ron.
'OK. Tomorrow's Saturday, and I'll just check my stuff, then I'll tell you.'
'Great! Well, I really could use a good sleep then.'
She smiled at Ron, then walked upstairs to her room slowly, still couldn't entirely believe what just happened. Then Hermione opened the door and entered.
'Night, Ron,' she said under her breath; before closing the door. She changed into pyjamas and climbed onto her bed. She stared at the ceiling... replaying the scene in her head. She smiled at herself, imagining how wonderful tomorrow will be. And she brought her imaginations into her dreams...
To be continued...
