She's Cute

Chapter one: Smile to Me

One beautiful spring in Hogwarts castle; where there couldn't be more delightful rain, prettier lake, nor lazier wind whirling about. Friday evening, when our story started, Ron Weasley was wondering around the Great Hall, looking for company. The students were chattering merrily, so were the teachers--if the way Snape chatters could be called merry. Seemed like the usual dinner! However, Ron's eyes fell on his bestfriend Harry Potter, who was entering the Hall; then sat across Ron.

'You're finally here,' Ron started disapprovingly. 'Where've you been?'

Harry sighed, smiling. Actually, he had been having fun with his girlfriend, Cho; but he wasn't going to tell him. Ron didn't smile back, and help himself for some more chipolatas. Because he didn't answer, Ron asked the other sixth year.

'Where's Hermione?'

And with that, Harry turned his gorgeous face to the entrance of the Hall; where Hermione ambled in. Ron followed Harry's gaze, and the moment he saw the girl; his cheeks turned maroon. Harry, pretending not to notice, sipped pumpkin juice from his goblet slowly.

'Oh, this will be fun,' he thought.

Hermione took seat exactly beside Ron, and smiled at the blushing young man.

'Hi,' she greeted, a pink sparkle on her face. 'I was wondering whether you could give me a hand.' Her brown eyes were twinkling fondly against Ron's eyes. His eyes got relaxed around the edges, and apparently speechless. So, Hermione continued.

'At the minute I need my Numerology and Grammatica book, to finish my homework, which still lying in the library,' she explained. 'And that book, I remember that you borrowed it.'

'Oh!' Ron said quickly. 'Yes, sorry,' he said then, fishing his bag for the book. While waiting for Ron to find it, Hermione turned to Harry and grinned. Harry grinned back and nodded. Several seconds after, Ron found it and hand it back to the owner. His hand was fidgeting when it brushed Hermione's slightly.

'Thanks,' muttered the girl, standing up. 'You may borrow it again after I'm finished with this.'

She waved the book, and walked out from the Hall; leaving a staring boy behind her. Harry, still enjoying his meal, sighed once again and shook his head. His grin had got wider from before, he had indeed enjoyed the scene.

'She's cute,' Harry complimented, snapping Ron back to reality. Ron turned back to his meal and continued like bothing had happened.

'What're you on about?' he asked, tempting to keep his voice casual.

'You like her,' the other boy said simply. He pushed his voice when he said mentioned the word 'like.'

'No, I don't!'

'You're going to ask her for a date!'

'Why would I?"

'Listen mate,' Harry mumbled patiently. 'Since when you haven't been dating?'

'I do date!'

'Oh, please!' the green eyed boy said, waving his hand in disbelief. 'Look at the calendar and tell me about it.'

'Leave me alone...,' Ron requested lazily.

'Suit yourself, Mister,' he said, standing up and heading to the Common Room. Ron watched him left, after that he took a deep breath.

* * *

'Snazzy wand,' Ron maffled to the Fat Lady. It swung open, and he invaded into the Common Room. Fortunately, it wasn't crowded at all. He had been gathering courage on the journey from the Great Hall to here... Now or never. He looked around, then identified a wave haired girl, sitting on one of the couch, reading a book with the lights from the fireplace. He slowly converged on her, and cleared his throat. That made her turned around.

'Ron,' she called softly. How she loved calling his name. 'You had a great dinner?'

'Sort of,' he replied distractedly. 'Why didn't you came for dinner?'

'You know me! It's all about the homeworks!' she said, as if it was the most abvious thing in the world.

'But you need the energy to do them?'

'Right,' Hermione said under her breath. 'Thanks for that.'

'For what?'

'Paying attention and caring about me,' she answered, almost whispering. The reflection of fire on her eyes made them even more seductive. Ron swallowed.

'Care for a hang out?' he asked steadily.

'Sure! We and Harry do hang out, don't we?' she exclaimed without doubt.

Ron pictured himself smash to smithereens. The he gathered around the pieces.

'No, I mean...,'

'How come things became too hard to say?' he opined.

'-just the two of us,' Ron finalized with relief.

Hermione's face went crimson in just two seconds. Clearly she hadn't expected that. On the other hand, Ron had overcome the fear of rejection; and waited for the answer patiently.

'Absolutely,' she finally said, still holding breath. 'Yes, with pleasure. Actually, I'm mighty glad you asked,' she accomplished, nodding. Later than, they both smiled nervously.

'OK,' Ron murmured. 'Tomorrow's Saturday, and I'll just check my stuff, then I'll tell you.'

'Great!' she commented. 'Well, I really could use a good sleep then.'

She stood up, and she beamed at him before heading back to her room. He watched her disappearing into her dormitory; then he himself walked up to the stairs. At the end of the stairs, there Harry was; folding his arms and smirked. Harry looked up at Ron.

'Shut up,' Ron said, rolling his eyes.

'I said nothing!'

'Well don't!' he proceeded to the room. When he had entered, Harry followed, muttering to himself.

'Told you she's cute.'

To be continued...
