Chapter 8

The Decision

When Harry visited Draco the next day, he knew that a decision had been reached. Draco stood up when he entered.

"Good morning, Draco. I trust you have come to a decision?"

"Indeed, Harry," said Draco. The use of his name in conversation and not spat out with disgust made Harry feel slightly better.

"We have decided to accept your bargain," said Draco, "we have decided that the optimum percentage would be 70%, though some thought that 60% would have been better, and some even wanted 100%. Anyway, our decision is taken. Now it is up to you."

Harry nodded.

"I'll free you all immediately and then issue the notice. Thanks, Draco. I probably won't be seeing you for quite some time. Good luck. If they choose democracy, I hope they make you the Minister - you're a natural leader. If they don't, you are welcome to join my court. I would appreciate the help of someone like you."

"Good luck to you too."

The Prince swept out of the cell and went to Hermione's. She didn't stand on seeing him, she merely looked up and gave him a weak smile.

"Good morning, Hermione."

"Good morning, Harry."

They watched each other in silence for some time.

"Why did you do this, Harry?"

"I just want the people to be happy. If they are happy with a democracy, I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to have it."

"You're a great wizard, Harry."

Harry laughed bitterly.

"I wouldn't say that, judging from the things I was told yesterday. Anyway, I just came to say goodbye, for all of you will be set free in a few minutes. Good luck."

"Good luck to you, too."

Harry walked out of the prison. He returned to his chambers to wash his face before he went to his court.

The rebels were lined up in the court when the Prince arrived. His courtiers rose and bowed as he sauntered to his throne and sat down.

"You all are free to go. I request you not to cause any trouble to my people till the elections are over. Once the results are declared, we shall hold a conference to decide our next course of action."

"When are the elections?" Draco Malfoy asked.

"In a week. The voting boards shall be placed everywhere, the citizens will only have to tap it with their wands."

The Prince looked straight at his ex-arch rival and once friend. Draco Malfoy gave him a smile before leading his group out. Hermione was the last to leave. She turned around at the gate and gave Harry a shy smile.

The Prince sighed heavily. He had given the task of setting up the election on Remus and his Weasleys. Just as he stood to leave, he heard a great commotion outside. He ran out, his ministers following closely. Rubeus Hagrid was standing there, looking murderous, while four of the royal guards tried to stop him from entering.

"Leave him," said the Prince.

The half-giant turned to him.

"Harry? Wha' d'yeh think yeh're doin' takin' 'em in like tha'? Let 'em go!" he thundered.
