Lily's Diary

Prologue: Letters and meetings.

Dear Diary,

It's my birthday today! I'm eleven now. I got lots and lots of nice gifts, including you, and we went to the zoo and everything. Mom got me a lovely dress. It's light green, with dark green borders, and it has pockets. Petunia says I look like a weed in it, but I think she's just jealous.

Petunia is my older sister. She's not very nice. She always calls me names and steals my things and things like that. But, I guess that's just what sisters do. I have to go to bed now; I have to go to school tomorrow.

Yours,

Lily.

Dear Diary,

Petunia has got a boyfriend. I saw her kissing that nasty Vernon Dursley behind the store earlier. I can't see what she sees in him, he's such a jerk. I don't like him at all. His sister is nasty too.

Yours faithfully,

Lily.

Dear Diary,

I know it has been a while since I last wrote in you. Petunia stole you and wouldn't give you back until I swore that I wouldn't tell mom and dad about her boyfriend. Older sisters are no fun.

It's summer holidays now, and I don't have to go to school. That's good. I don't really mind school, but it's so boring. But I'll be starting a new school this September, so perhaps I'll be less bored then. I hope so.

Yours,

Lily.

Dear Diary,

I am a witch! I got a letter today, from a place called Hogwarts, saying that I have been accepted as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I can't believe it. Mom and dad couldn't believe it at first, either, but they're very proud of me.

I'm a bit frightened, though. Witches are evil, aren't they? I don't want to be evil. Lily says I am. She called me a freak of nature. Am I?

Yours,

Lily.

Dear Diary,

We went to London today. The letter from my new school had included an address to a pub called the Leaky Cauldron, and said that we could get help there, so mom, dad and I went to see what it was. Petunia stayed home.

The nice man in the Leaky Cauldron showed us into Diagon Alley, where we were to buy my school supplies. The place was amazing! There were plenty of witches and wizards everywhere, and they didn't look evil at all. One of them even had a blue cat. It was wonderful there.

The first place we went was to a bank, called Gringotts, where the man in the pub had said we could change our money to the wizard currency, and I got my own account. Then we went around and just looked for a while. I saw a boy playing with a snake, and went over to have a closer look, but he disappeared around a corner, and I couldn't find mom and dad, either.

I was really scared, but then a boy came over to me and asked if I was all right. I told him that I couldn't find my parents, and he said he'd help me find them. He was about my age, and had really odd eyes. They were golden. He said his name was Remus, so I told him my name. We are going to go to school together. That's good, because he seemed really nice. We found mom and dad, and Remus told us where everything was, so we found all of my supplies.

I can't wait to start school...

Yours,

Lily.
