The Diary Of Lily Evans

Chapter One

Entry One

Seventeen Years Of Being Single

Have you ever known something was true, but had never wanted to admit it? Well, truth to tell, despite all I have been hiding from everyone and even from myself, I am one of those many people that aren't in the exact mood or position to want to admit the truth....

Lily Evans paused briefly, her quill posed motionless in her hand against the fresh pages of her new diary. Slowly, her eyes wandered the Gryffindor Common Room, and although it was quite deserted, she was highly afraid and not to mention would be highly stricken to death if anyone were to see her next words that were to be written on the page....

Alright then, sorry for the short pause there. Anyway, let us resume our course of shameful confessions. Well, I shouldn't know if it is shameful or not, I suppose it depends on other people's point of view, and as you can tell, I am continuously babbling with useless words because I am afraid to admit the truth. Okay then, I will say it:

I have been single for Seventeen Years.

Embarrassing isn't it? And to mention the word I used before, shameful as well. To be honest, I don't know what I have to be hurt or worried about however. No one ever notices me or even cares that I exist. I am usually alone and beside my only best friend, Stella Vartellie, a girl that has stuck by me since first year and knows every little single detail about me, even the one part of me being single. Urgh. I do hate that word.

Again, Lily stuck her head above her diary. Still no one. Good.

I hope that I don't appear too boy crazy or anything, because I really am not. If you want to know, I am mostly a sensible person; the kind of person that does their homework, the kind of person that listens, the kind of person that you wouldn't catch being in trouble or involved within anything I shouldn't be involved in. I know, boring isn't it? And the part that sucks mostly about my life is that I feel as if I have no life at all, even though just seconds ago, I had just used the word life to describe what I am. *Sigh* Sometimes, I wish I had something to look forward too, or maybe even a little excitement. A boyfriend wouldn't be too bad either, and not being looked down upon constantly as the nerd would be nice as well. To make it plain and simple, I lead the nonexistent life of a person with one friend and no certain popularity or connection with other people. It isn't absolutely horrid or anything, but it isn't what you would call luxurious either--oh Merlin's Beard, here comes Stella. Boy, does she look irritated.

"You'll never guess who I bumped into just minutes ago!" Stella exclaimed, her eyes glowing hotter than coals and her pretty lips thinned together quite tightly.

Rolling her eyes in annoyance, Lily already predicted her answer. "Trina and Ella, am I right?"

"Exactly!" Fuming, Stella launched herself across from Lily in a rocking chair, glaring furiously at the ceiling. "The nerves of those two girls! They're such rude donkeys. I was only in the restroom, cleaning myself up a bit, and they march right in, and bump me aside so that they would be able to use the mirror themselves."

"But aren't there other mirrors?"

Stella threw her hands into the air. "And that's exactly my point! There were millions of them reflecting they're ugly faces about a hundred tons bigger than you could imagine!"

You see, that is what I like about Stella. Not only is she gray eyed, dark haired, and pretty, she's got a spunky and rather feisty attitude as well. She doesn't like taking crap from anyone, even if it's from me. Instead, she'll yell right back without a moments hesitation, and that I must sadly say, is the polar opposite of me. I can never say anything back, and my insecurities are constantly trailing behind me wherever I go or even if I have the courage to try something new for once. Maybe it's not my fault that I have low self esteem, but whatever is dragging me down, its perfectly clear that I have no self-confidence whatsoever. Stella knows this, and does her best to try and make me feel ultimately grand, but she knows I'm far from conceited. However, she loves me for my understanding personality and soft nature, and I love her for just, well, being her wild spontaneous self. Now that is the kind of outgoing person that I could never hope to be.

"Oh bloody hell," Stella murmured. "Here they come right at this very moment."

And sure enough, two girls swept gracefully into the common room, pushing the portrait door aside and laughing shrilly at some private joke between them.

Lily bent herself hurriedly back into her diary again.

Trina Helyena and Ella Crescent:
1) Popular
2) Stylish
3) Every boy in school is after them
4) What you would call a "tramp"
5) Purebloods
6) From rich families
7) The two famous girls of the school
8) Thinks they are the boss of everyone
9) Ugly without makeup, because they share a dormitory with us
10) And most of the time, me and Stella just want to staple things to their faces

Trina Helyena:
1) Brunette
2) Dull blue eyes
3) Pale skin that she covers with makeup powder (even her arms)
4) Known secretly for not ridding some of her hair under her armpits at points, because me and Stella have seen it far too often
5) Does not wear underwear sometimes
6) Was caught in the boy's dormitory (doing who knows what)
7) Has fat short stubby feet that she is ashamed of
8) Likes talking behind every girls back
9) Enjoys stealing other girl's boyfriend
10) Secretly envied and hated by all girls in Hogwarts

Ella Crescent
1) Blonde
2) Brown eyes
3) Sallow skin that she conjures into a different color every morning with her wand
4) Dirty habits consisting of unwashed panties and unclean bed sheets
5) Shaves her pubic hair on the floor and leaves it there
6) Wear's so much makeup you can't even see her face
7) Happens to say the most stupidest things
8) Snores very loudly at night
9) Has sex at least once a week (there's always a vacant sign on our door)
10) Mostly known for snogging five guys all at once, even when they all had girlfriends

Dropping down her quill, Lily met eyes with Stella again, and saw her best friend grin slyly. Oh no....

"Oh please, if it isn't the two spinsters," Trina chortled, throwing back her hair and raising an eyebrow. "What's the matter, Vartellie? Afraid you'll get told? I see your wearing a new jumper. Where'd you get it at? The Wizardry Orphanage is my best guess."

Ella laughed shrilly with delight. "Oh stop it, Trina! You'll make these younglings cry. Let's just go upstairs and get ready for our Hogmeade's date tonight, only because we have dates.

At this very moment, I wouldn't mind doing more than just stapling their faces with razor sharp blades. Hmmm ... must think of a way that is painful and beyond human nature. Of course, poisoning wouldn't have been so bad either....

"Yes, of course then, Ella," sighed Trina dramatically. "Let us drag ourselves to our duties then."

But at that precise moment, Stella had stuck out her foot purposely and sent Trina flying first, and Ella, being the dumb blind bat that she is, was stupid enough to follow suit and ended up landing atop of Trina. Most unfortunately for them, they had happened to land right in front of the Common Room fireplace, where, um, they got certain singes in their hair. *Snicker.* It was not pretty, trust me.

Ella screamed, "Oh bloody hell, my hair! Trina, look at my hair, its on fire!"

But Trina however, was in her own crazed frenzy as she rushed around the common room, shrieking and trying to grope at her hair, but manage to touch nothing but flames and wring her hands away in the process.

"HELP ME, HELP ME!"

Stella on the other hand was howling with laughter. She had fallen from her chair and was now clutching hard at her stomach, kicking her feet in the air as well. Lily just sat stock still, momentarily stunned to silence and could only watch in a dazed stupor as the two girls ran screaming through the common room portrait hole and unmistakably toward the Hospital Wing.

After what seemed almost a half and hour of hearing Stella laughed, Lily said rather tentatively, "Well ... that was, um, certainly something." She then abruptly smiled and giggled. "You've made me laugh. Usually, I'd be scowling at you, but I was feeling that vicious too."

"Glad to hear it," Stella replied, flashing Lily a smile. "And I see you're writing in that diary I gave you for your birthday. I must say Evans, FINALLY!"

"It's only been a whole year," Lily retorted, though she smiled teasingly.

Stella snorted. "Yes, only a whole year." She then turned toward Lily and smiled brightly. "So, are you going to be spending most of the summer with me or will you be staying home this time?"

Lily's face fell. "I-I don't know yet." A sickness had welled up in the pit of her stomach now and was threatening to come loose. "All I know is that I don't want to go home."

"Then you can stay me," said Stella. "I won't have you living with that horrid Petunia for a whole two months, Lily. Especially now that it's only the two of you. It use to be fine when your parents had been around, but--" She suddenly stopped talking and paled.

Lily looked close to tears.

Immediately, Stella rushed forward and enveloped her best friend in a warm affectionate hug. "Hey," she whispered. "It's alright, okay? Don't worry about it now. I'm sorry for bringing it up." Slowly, she stood back and grinned at Lily. "During the summer, you write to me whenever you want to be picked up, okay? I don't think Petunia will care either way if you leave with me straightaway, but me and my family won't be home for at least week when the summer starts. So make sure its after a week when you write to me, okay?"

Lily gave a watery smile. "I will, just as long as you promise you won't forget me."

Stella laughed. "Would I ever?"

Lily certainly felt better after that.

"Well, it's been a bit of a long night," Stella remarked, yawning and stretching. "So if you don't mind, I'll be retiring. You coming, Lils?"

"In a bit."

"Alright then, see you. And make sure you tell me when those two tramps are back. I want a warning in case they plan something to me while I'm sleeping."

"I will," Lily reassured. "And Stella?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for everything."

Stella waved her off and laughed, rushing up the dormitory staircase two at a time. She was obviously eager to be asleep, for tomorrow was the train back home.

Lily sighed.

If there's one thing in the world I could wish for, it would to not be going back to see Petunia, even if it were only one week I would have to live with her. Since I am being perfectly honest with you, Diary, I will admit that I am afraid of living alone with Petunia. I lived with her all my life, and I know what she is really like when we're alone together, but that was only when our parents were in the house with us. Now however ... its just me and Petunia, because....

Sudden pain and sorrow overwhelmed Lily, and she felt as if she could not go on with her words, but a brimming confidence that was hidden deeply within her, urged her hand to take her quill and write.

She very slowly wrote the end of the sentence:

Because my parents are dead.

Breathing deeply, Lily closed her eyes and felt a stab of loss. She would certainly not cry here and in any way be seen by anyone, especially by both the hideous Trina and Ella.

Echoes of laughter suddenly filled the Common Room, and Lily instantly dried her eyes. She hastily turned and saw that it was none other than the four famous pranksters of Hogwarts, known as the Marauders.

She gasped slightly and turned away, feeling her face flushed. Her eyes however, refused to be cast down as they surveyed the four boys standing by the portrait hole and cracking jokes at one another.

And there you have it, Diary, a glimpse of the famous Marauders. I am, in a way, envious of them, because they are a lot like Stella, no matter how many times she refused to admit it. They're open, daring, hilarious, and obviously not afraid to take dangerous chances or risks that could even get them thrown out of school. I wish I could be more like them and less unsure of myself, but I feel as if that fateful day will never come.

Sheepishly, Lily glanced up and saw them all lounging lazily in a far corner, laughing and seeming to have a very good time. They didn't even notice her, less glance her way. Admittedly, it stung very slightly somewhere in Lily's ego, though she forced herself to think it was an excellent way to spy on them and to continue on writing without being disturbed.

The very tall boy who is handsome and has that naturally dark hair that is alluring to the eye and certainly appealing is Sirius Black, a top notch joker and prankster. I admit, he's funny at points and can be adorable, which explains why many girls seem to fawn secretly over him and hope for future chances, even if he is way out of their league.

Remus Lupin on the other hand seems to be the opposite of Sirius, and seems more calm and sane than the rest of the Marauders. There's a sensitive side to him that makes him charming, even if he is not all that gorgeous. However, he isn't ugly, but he certainly isn't the next Sirius Black. Instead, he has cropped sandy brown hair, a squared jaw, and bright eyes that always appear weary with shadows under them. Despite it all, he really is nice, and I think he's actually helped me picked up my books once and carried them to class for me when my bag had split. Very nice and charming personality indeed.

And Peter Petigrew.... I don't really know what to say about him, to be honest, for I've never really heard much except for the fact that he's sneaky, lurks around a lot, and is constantly seen stuffing his face with cake and candy. But a lot of rumors have circulated that the Marauders trust Petigrew with their lives and says that he indeed has special qualities that does not need to be shared with others. Oh well, whatever they all, I don't think I'll ever be the person to find out.

Last but not least is James Potter, a lanky boy with glasses and untidy hair. From what I've heard, he's funny, the next top prankster, and has a very smart mouth that never seems to close once he uses it to talk back or be the center of attention. He's okay looking and I do find his hazel eyes very ... beautiful, for they glint like gold and murky green together. And he is an excellent Quidditch Player. Me and Stella have seen him handle the position as Chaser plenty of times before, and Stella, hoping to one day try out for the Quidditch Team, knows a lot about the Seeker position. Although he seems to have a lot of talent, it appears that Potter also seems to have a very huge ego as well, not to mention a pompous arrogant strut he uses whenever he gets his way. Whew! Okay, that is enough about James Potter and the rest of the Marauders. I am going to stop there, and finally make my way to bed.

At once, Lily stood up to make her way to the girl's dormitory, but much to her surprise, she had accidentally met the Marauders halfway to their own across the Common Room.

They blinked in surprise as she was nearly knocked aside from all four of their builds. Uncertain of what to do, Lily was suddenly nervous and her cheeks were blushing rather lightly. Hopefully, they wouldn't be able to see the color.

"Sorry about that," said Remus at once. He reached out and pushed both Sirius and James out the way, who had continued to stare at her confusingly. "These guys have no manners, Lily, don't mind them."

Lily couldn't help the gasp that escaped her. "Y-you know me?"

Remus stared at her strangely. "Um, aren't I supposed too?"

She immediately colored. "I-I'm s-sorry. I'll just head upstairs."

"Wait."

But it was at the last moment, and Lily had almost rushed up the stairs before she looked back to see James Potter happening to call after her. He looked as if he had wanted to say something, an apology at least, or some sort of greeting, but she had gone away to fast. Without another look back, Lily bolted.

Diary, I hope I will never be stuck in a situation like that again.
