Resonance

Snape adopts Harry in this story (very in-character) that stretches from the end of year six until Harry starts his Auror apprenticeship. Harry defeats Voldemort and has to deal with not only with his now greatly increased fame, but also with some odd, disturbing skills he inherited from the Dark Lord. Both he and Snape fumble around trying for some kind of family normalcy, which neither one is very knowledgeable of. Harry survives his seventh year at Hogwarts with a parent as a teacher and starts his training as an Auror.

Rescue, in the form of the headmaster and the Potions professor, arrives for Harry but before a long day of torment that leaves him vulnerable to old suppressed emotions and memories.

Harry and Snape get portkeyed to St. Mungo's where he finally gets his injuries treated. Harry is an impatient patient, however and, as soon as possible, returns to Hogwarts to sleep things off in Pomfrey's care.

Harry spends the next two months of the term trying to pull himself back together. He battles nightmares and unease while burying himself in his schoolwork and the D.A. He finds out that things are far more dangerous for him than he realized, but his friends rise well to his aid.

With most of the teachers off on Order business, Harry has a vision of Voldemort beckoning him from the castle entrance hall. Frightened, but determined to meet his destiny, Harry leads the D.A. down to meet the Dark Lord.

A large impromptu party, complete with fireworks over Hogsmeade, is put together to celebrate Voldemort's demise. Everyone is having a roaring time except Harry, who is still too raw from his battle with Voldemort, and is starting to realize he inherited some unexpected things from the Dark Lord.

Voldemort is now gone. In the week after the final battle Harry is offered assistance from unexpected people.

During the one Quidditch match of the year, Harry discovers that his strange visions are real and that the remaining Death Eaters will go to great lengths to take revenge on Voldemort’s slayer.

Harry waves goodbye to his friends leaving on the train at the end of the year since he is being kept at the castle to protect him from the seven remaining Death Eaters. He isn’t feeling very sanguine about his situation, however. Eavesdropping on a conversation between Snape and McGonagall leaves him confused about who he can rely on.

Harry, stuck at Hogwarts for the summer, wanders the castle looking for something to do. He learns a few of the castle's unrevealed secrets but eventually grows bored enough to see what is happening in the dungeon. Dumbledore tries to set some plans going for the future, but his Potions master is reluctant to consider his part in them.

Harry, desperate for something to do over the summer, learns wizard solitaire. A basket of sweets sends Harry into a funk which Dumbledore tries to pull him out of. Snape, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, learns that he has to revise his course because of the D.A. The residents of Hogsmeade learn a new drinking song, and Harry is still butting heads with McGonagall.

Harry throws a small birthday party in the Great Hall. The pile of presents from his admirers is daunting but not as much so as the one he receives from Professor Snape.

During his birthday party, talk of the future leaves Harry feeling uneasy for reasons he can’t understand. After the party Mr. Granger doesn’t want to leave Harry alone with his professor and Harry gets a chance to vent about his luck with Defense teachers. As Harry sorts through his myriad presents, he confesses to Snape how he really defeated Voldemort.

A solicitor comes to help fill in the paperwork for the adoption application, which brings out more of Harry’s history with the Dursleys than he would have liked to reveal. Harry gets off to a bad start with the new Potions professor. And the Dursleys get to meet Harry’s new guardian.

After a difficult hearing with the Wizard Family Council the adoption is official. Harry goes home on the train with his new guardian. Unpacking awakens bad memories and Snape gets to see Harry’s temper first hand.

Harry settles into his new home. He starts obsessing about a young lady who walks down their road everyday. His shadowy nightmares, which he’d thought he had left behind, return with a vengeance, literally. In the end Harry grudgingly learns how to ask for a little help.

Harry is alone in the house when there is a knock on the door and unexpected guests come for tea, some of them more welcome than others.

After unexpectedly meeting Snape’s dad, Harry gets bold enough to ask about Snape’s mum. What follows is a rather awkward visit.

Harry heads to Diagon Alley with Snape for supplies. When he encounters Hermione he finds he can’t quite explain to his friend what has happened. At the Welcoming Feast the new students are just a little overwhelmed to meet the Hero of Wizardry.

Classes begin for Harry’s Seventh Year. Harry cannot figure out how to tell his friends that he’s been adopted and an awkward time starts with Snape teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Harry is again at odds with the Potions professor. He thinks he is up for the battle, but he doesn’t understand what she is really after.

Filch, a moment of bailing out a friend, and Harry is forced into a corner where he has to tell the truth. But he's been hiding it too long and it's just too much to ask for understanding.

Dumbledore calls Snape to his office tell him how pleased he is with Harry’s emotional health. Harry confronts Ron. Dumbledore decides he has taken care of everything he needs to.

Chapter 24 - Rendezvous: Snape is meeting a woman in Hogsmeade, but unfortunately for him she is a big fan of Harry. Everyone adjusts to life without Dumbledore. Harry discovers that he needs to find the perfect gift, really soon.

Gryffindor vs. Slytherin and Harry faces a new, highly-skilled opposing Seeker. He also faces finding a date for the Christmas ball.

Harry, now set with a rather unexpected date, manages an evening of dancing and conversation, as well as a bit of manipulation of Rita Skeeter.

Harry arrives home for his first real Christmas, but an unexpected visitor unsettles things.

Harry finally gets a real Christmas. He and Snape attend a large party that sparks a tiff regarding Harry's choice of guardian.

Harry grows more jealous of his various friends' close relationships.

Harry and his friends begin working on becoming Animages. Visiting students arrive from Durmstrang and are a little surprise to find themselves taking the same classes as the Destroyer of Voldemort.

Harry starts tutoring with Headmistress McGonagall. Hermione manages to get Harry paired with a Durmstrang girl on a Care of Magical Creatures assignment.

Harry secretly cheers for the Sytherin team. Snape sits Harry down to fill out his application for the Auror's program.

Harry's wombat continues to change. The durmstrang story comes out when Penelope tries to warn Harry about Snape knowing Karkaroff.

Easter holiday arrives. Harry heads home alone and is surprised to discover a certain Auror in his dining room when he appears.

Harry has quite the Easter holiday. First he wakes up in Tonks' bed, then the mysterious girl in the yellow slicker interrupts his gardening.

Harry returns from Easter holiday and continues to be haunted by shadows.

A mysterious attacker bests Harry, who then spends a bad night in the hospital wing. Fortunately, his guardian puts in a timely appearance.

After the attack Harry must be escorted around the castle. He also gets his acceptance letter for Auror testing.

Ginny get the entire DA into trouble.

Harry finds out from Hagrid what his Animagus form is.

Hermione brews a dream potion for the wombat assignment in the girls' toilet. She asks Harry whether he can still open the Chamber of Secrets.

Harry's mystery attacker strikes again, but this time Harry is prepared.

It is now one year since the defeat of Voldemort and McGonagall arranges a large party for the occasion. Borrowed robes, a bit of mead, some reconciliation.

Harry attains his Animagus form at an unexpected moment.

The Gryffindors make the most of not caring about house points, but don't warn Harry what they are up to. Meanwhile, Harry isn't noticing much besides Penelope anyway.

Harry and his friends finish school at Hogwarts and take their N.E.W.T.s

Summer holiday after seventh year has arrived and Harry is not on his best behavior.

Harry goes on his first trip to the Continent to visit his girlfriend in Switzerland.

Harry has his entrance tests for the Ministry Auror's Apprenticeship.

Harry's girlfriend pays a visit and Harry is maybe a little too honest.

Harry finds out he's gotten into the Auror's program and does the only reasonable thing--throws a party.

Auror training begins in earnest for Harry, who is fast running out of Galleons.

Witch Weekley woes, Apparition Examination and a visit to Harry's parent's grave.

Harry and Snape have a one-year review with the Ministry Family Council. Snape's father comes for dinner.

Harry's birthday includes a picnic and pick-up quidditch match at the Weasley's after a flight on his new, very shiny, present. The date brings him to visit Godric's Hollow yet again.

Harry runs into trouble with a neighborhood dad and finds someone else to date.

The aurors go shopping at Weasleys' Wizard Weezes and Harry helps Ginny find all her school books.

Harry's Auror trainer recognizes Snape from long ago, leading to a confrontation.

Harry, faced with yet another strange arrangement of objects is confronted by Snape and tested for unusual magic.

Harry does not return home and a search begins.

Harry is rescued in unexpected circumstances.

Harry has his first experience shadowing an Auror for his training. Harry also must testify at Rick Rothschild's hearing before the Wizengamot.

Harry insists Vineet accompany him to Ollivanders while he has his wand repaired.

Harry goes back to hogwarts for a quidditch match and finds things have changed already.

Snape is taken to meet Harry's Evans relatives unfortunately Mrs. Evans recognizes Snape as James' old enemy.

Harry gets injured during drills and doesn't know what to think of the strange magical effect on his arms.

Harry writes a heartfelt letter to his guardian and goes to a Halloween party at the Burrow and wins the costume competition.

A demonstration at the Ministry gets a little out of hand. Harry gets to tell his cousins he's a wizard.

Harry has to find a birthday present for Snape and he unexpectedly, but pleasantly, runs into someone who helps him find one.

Harry has a first date with the Minister of Magic's receptionist. Snape has a date with the past.

Revenge and a lot of blood.

Harry gets a chance to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts.

The last chapter. Snape finds unexpected redemption.
