Chapter 4

Lily entered her room and turned around to catch one last look at Severus, but he'd already closed the door. She walked over to her trunk and pulled her nightclothes out. Quickly, she changed, pulled the covers down, and jumped into bed. The torches outside her window were casting shadows on the ceiling, creating an eerie feeling in the room. She lay there for half an hour before she finally fell asleep.

At 6:30, she heard a soft knock at her door. She jumped out of bed, pulled her bathrobe on, and opened the door. Severus was standing there with a bouquet of orange roses in his hands.

"Oh, Severus! Orange roses are my favorite! Thank you so much!" Lily gushed as she took them from his hands and reached up to kiss him. He tasted like bacon and coffee.

When they finally pulled apart, his black eyes were smiling down at her with a look of pure sunshine in them.

"Why don't you put some clothes on so we can go for a stroll down Diagon Alley before we have to leave for King's Cross?"

"Ok. You wait for me downstairs," Lily commanded.

Lily pulled a black skirt out of her trunk along with a neon pink sweater. She decided to leave her hair down today. She looked in the mirror one last time as she headed out the door.

At the bottom of the steps, Severus offered her his hand, and they walked out of the Leaky Cauldron hand-in-hand. James, Remus, and Sirius were sitting in the pub eating breakfast when they walked through.

"Where are the love birds off to this early in the morning?" Remus asked when they walked by.

Lily just laughed and squeezed Severus' hand. They walked out into the early morning light laughing and talking about how her friends would never understand their relationship.

"Remus is just a natural tease," Lily commented.

"I don't think he could ever take anything seriously. Life is just a huge joke to him," Severus added.

"Lily, can I ask you something?" Severus asked after several minutes of silence.

"Yes of course anything. What's on your mind?"

"Do you love me?"

"What kind of question is that? Of course I do. You know that. What makes you ask?"

"I just had to hear you say it."

With that he grabbed her and kissed her again, but she pushed him away.

" Severus! Not know! Not in the middle of the street!" Lily protested.

"Once we get to school, though, I'm not going to be able to though. Think about what people would say."

"I don't care what people think."

"I have a reputation to keep up with the Slytherins, though. If they caught me kissing you in the middle of the corridor I'd never hear the end of it."

"Severus, let's not fight about this now. If you don't want to show affection to me at school I understand. Oh my gosh! We'd better get back to the Leaky Cauldron. We're gonna be late if we don't run!" Lily exclaimed.

"Ok! Whatever you say!" Severus said as he took off running down the street.

Lily laughed and ran after him. Not stopping until they reached the back door to the pub and inn.
