Chapter 1

"Lily! An owl just delivered a letter for you. I think it's your Hogwarts letter," Mrs. Evans yelled up the stairs.

"Ok, Mum!" seventeen year - old Lily Evans yelled back.

Five seconds later, she came down the stairs, her long red hair flowing behind her. When she entered the kitchen, her mother handed her a letter with Hogwarts seal on it, an H with a snake, a lion, a badger, and an eagle intertwined. Quickly, she opened it and read,

"Miss Evans,

Enclosed you will find the list of books required for the

new term. As usual, the Hogwarts Express will be leaving

King's Cross promptly at 11:00 from Platform 9 ¾ on September 1. Hope you're enjoying your holiday.

"Mum, can I go to Diagon Alley tomorrow afternoon? Severus wants to spend time together before school starts."

"Of course, dear. I know how hard it is for you two to see each other. Then you can stay at the Leaky Cauldron and catch a cab to King's Cross," her mother replied.

"Thank you!" Lily called as she ran back upstairs. She opened her bedroom door, walked in and flopped down on her bed thinking of Severus Snape, her boyfriend. She remembered that day in Defense Against Dark Arts last year when he asked her out. She couldn't have been happier. Ever since she laid eyes on him, she knew there was something special about him. She closed her eyes and soon was fast asleep dreaming of Hogwarts and Severus.

The next morning she woke up at 6:30. She couldn't wait for the day to begin. She heard her mum making breakfast downstairs. Smells like bacon, eggs, and biscuits, she thought. Quickly, she pulled on a gray skirt and blue sweater. She gathered her hair into a ponytail and tied a blue ribbon around it. She could hear her sister Petunia waking up in the next room. Darn! I was hoping to get out of here before she woke up, so she wouldn't bug me. Petunia, her mother, and her father were what wizards called Muggles, people with no magical powers. Her parents were very good at accepting that she was a witch, but Petunia loved torturing her about it.

Lily grabbed her Hogwarts trunk and dragged it downstairs and set it by the door. When she walked into the kitchen, she saw that the oak table was covered in presents, and the white walls were covered with colorful streamers.

"Since your birthday is during the school year, we decided to celebrate today. We also have a special surprise for you!" her father said when he saw her surprised face.

He walked over to the front door and opened it. In stepped a bunch of her school friends. Among them were James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Severus!

She gave each of them a hug as tears started to form in her eyes. When she got to Severus he picked her up and twirled her around. His shoulder length black hair brushed across her face. Then he set her back down he gave her a kiss. After a morning full of presents, cake, and other goodies, the teenagers said goodbye to the Evans and left for Diagon Alley.
