Draco exited Modern Wizard Wear, shrinking the package containing the scarf and placing it in his pocket. He browsed around a few shops, looking for Harry, and then decided to head to the Leaky Cauldron for a drink. Passing Flourish and Blotts, he noticed a head of messy black hair in a crowd of people.

"Hey, where've you been?" Draco asked Harry.

He noticed Harry was shivering slightly, as the cold wind blew around them.

"You're cold. Let's go get a butterbeer," Draco said.

He grabbed Harry's wrist and pulled him to the Leaky Cauldron.

They returned home later, and Draco went up to his room. Ginny was sitting at her desk, examining a few items. She turned as Draco entered.

"What the hell happened in the kitchen just now?" she demanded.

"Umm...you made a mess of everything, threw a tantrum, and I needed a freaking break!" Draco shot back.

"Look here, Malfoy, you are supposed acting like my bloody perfect boyfriend!" Ginny seethed, poking a finger to Draco's chest, "and that is not going to include running off anytime you feel like it! You're going to keep acting, and you're going to freaking like it! Okay, look, I'm in no mood right now to start an argument."

'Too late,' Draco thought.

"I just realised it's already bloody Christmas Eve. The ball is tomorrow night, and I still have so many things to take care off..." she rambled on.

Meanwhile, Hermione and Ron were walking through the upstairs corridor of the mansion, discussing the Ball. They heard raised voices as they passed by Ginny's room.

"...threw a tantrum, and I needed a freaking break!" Draco was saying.

"Look here, Malfoy, you are supposed acting like my bloody perfect boyfriend!" Ginny said angrily, "and that is not going to include running off anytime you feel like it! You're going to keep acting, and you're going to freaking like it! Okay, look, I'm in no mood right now to start an argument."

Hermione and Ron looked at each other, shocked, as they heard the word 'acting'.

"Ron, this is wrong, we shouldn't be listening to them," Hermione whispered.

"Who cares?! This is good stuff. They're just acting? I can't believe it..." Ron whispered back as he pressed his ear closer to the door.

Back inside the room, Ginny was instructing Draco on the next part of the plan.

"Okay, so, tomorrow morning, after breakfast, that's when we're going to be opening all the presents," Ginny said.

She walked over to her desk and picked up a black velvet jewellery box. She handed it to Draco.

"Open it. This is what you're going to be giving me tomorrow," she instructed.

Draco opened the box. Inside was a stunning necklace dripping with diamonds.

"Wow," he murmured, "bit much, isn't it?"

"It's fine," Ginny said distractedly. "Okay, after I open this in front of everyone, and act all surprised and shit, I'm going to have to kiss you. Harry will go mad with jealousy!"

Draco's head snapped up.

"Excuse me? Sorry, I seemed to have misheard you. You said kiss..."

"Yes, I did."

"No can do. This wasn't part of the plan," Draco said.

"Oh, come on. It's not like it means anything. You bat for the other side of the team!" Ginny said.

"DRACO'S GAY?!" Hermione and Ron exclaimed at the same time.

"You hear something?" Draco asked, looking towards the door.

Ginny turned her head, listening.

"No. Now, what am I giving you tomorrow?"

Outside, Hermione and Ron were kneeling next to the door in shell-shocked silence.

"Oh my god, Draco's gay and he's pretending to be Ginny's boyfriend to make Harry jealous?" Ron whispered.

Hermione nodded slowly, then her mouth fell open as she realised something.

"We've got to find Harry!" she said, and grabbed Ron's wrist, pulling him behind as she ran to Harry's room.

She burst through the door, startling Harry, who was lying on the bed and reading.

"Harry, you won't believe what we just heard!" she squealed.

"Ginny and Draco are pretending to be going out to make you jealous because Ginny actually likes you and Draco Malfoy is gay. Gay! And I don't understand why Ginny just doesn't ask you out, because you'll probably just say yes but then she lives all the way in New York and long distance relationships are hard, but then you could always apparate or Floo, and I can't believe I never noticed Draco is gay before, maybe that's why he's always wearing expensive clothes, and Ginny likes you!" Ron exclaimed in one breath.

Harry stared at him, blinking.

"That's a lot of information to get in ten seconds. Did I hear you right? Draco and Ginny are pretending to be going out, Ginny likes me and Draco's gay?" Harry repeated.

"Yeah, that's what I said," Ron said.

"God, Ron, you retard. Just because someone wears expensive clothes doesn't mean they're gay! I wear expensive clothes, and I'm not gay!" Hermione said.

"You're gay?" Ron asked, looking at her.

"NO! You loser," Hermione replied.

She turned to Harry. "What Ron said was true, Harry. Now you can make a move on Draco!"

"EXCUSE ME? HARRY LIKES DRACO? HARRY'S GAY?!" Ron yelled.

"Thanks, Ron. Now the whole world knows the unfortunate predicament we happen to be in," Harry said.

"Only it's not unfortunate! Everything's working out perfectly now! You can tell Draco you like him!" Hermione said.

"One second! Harry, how come I don't know you're gay?" Ron asked.

"Well, you know now, it's a long story, are you going to be a supportive friend or are you going to act like a childish prat?" Hermione asked.

"The friend thing..." Ron replied as he sat down on a chair.

Suddenly the doorbell rang and it was heard throughout the house. Back in Ginny's room, Draco jerked his head up.

"Shit! It's my parents! I forgot they were coming back today!" he said, and then ran out, Ginny close to his heels.

At the front door, Molly was greeting Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. Narcissa looked up as Draco and Ginny came down the stairs hand in hand.

"Draco, darling, come here and give your mother a hug!" she called.

Draco let go of Ginny's hand and he gave his parents a hug each. Ginny followed suit.

"Lucius and Narcissa will be staying here until the ball tomorrow night. Oh, there's still so much to do!" Molly trailed off excitedly as she and Narcissa headed off to the study for more Ball preperations.

Lucius and Arthur went off to the parlour for drinks, leaving Draco and Ginny alone.

Everyone enjoyed a sumptuous dinner that night, and then they headed off into the living room for coffee. Harry sat alone quietly, barely hearing the Christmas carols playing in the background, or the twins' jokes. He thought about the Ball the next night and just how he was going to tell Draco how he felt.

Ginny and Draco sat on a couch with Lucius, Narcissa, Molly and Arthur, and Ginny kept them entertained with stories of their life in New York. Harry looked over at them, remembering Ginny's little plan and realised what a fake she was. He watched as Draco excused himself, and headed over to the bar where poured himself two straight firewhiskey shots and downed them. Harry sensed Draco's discomfort and remembered Draco's frustration with Ginny during that scene in the kitchen.

He wondered why Draco was helping her at all...

Everyone went off to bed early, to get ready for the next day. Draco lay awake in his room, unable to sleep as he went over what he would have to do the next morning. Kiss Ginny... the thought made him shudder. His thoughts drifted to the black box tied with a silver ribbon sitting on his bedside table. He rolled over on his side and looked at it. Imagining Harry's brilliant green eyes, he finally went to sleep.
