Draco Malfoy's First Report
Name: Draco L. Malfoy
House: Slytherin
Year: 1
Charms: B
Has coped well enough with learning most of the spells, but his control of some leaves something to be desired. Also, his constant requests to learn curses instead are irritating and pointless.
F. Flitwick
Transfiguration: B
Best at transforming animals into objects, something he appears to derive great pleasure from. Mediocre performance at transforming objects into animals, or objects into other objects.
M. McGonagall
Potions: B+
Draco's attitude and behaviour in class makes him a pleasure to teach, unlike many of the other pupils. However, his actual proficiency in the brewing of potions is lacking.
S. Snape
Herbology: C
Mr Malfoy seems to have no appreciation of the uses of Herbology, and hardly puts any effort into the class.
P. Sprout
DADA: B
Mr Malfoy's evident preference for the Dark Arts rather than Defence against them means that he doesn't pay enough attention to the class. He appears to have spent much of his time making jokes about turbans.
F. Grubbly-Plank (for the deceased Q. Quirrell)
History of Magic: A
Mr Malone is a credit to Ravenclaw.
V. Binns
Astronomy: B
What talent he does possess is eclipsed by his failure to take the subject seriously instead of making jokes at Hufflepuff's expense.
S. Sinistra
Flying: B
He thinks he knows it all already, and he doesn't. He pays no attention to instructions not to fly over the Forbidden Forest, thus risking his life.
R. Hooch
General behaviour/study habits: A
Head of House's comments:
Draco's abilities are not well understood by many of his teachers; he is one of the best students in Slytherin.
S. Snape
Headmaster's comments:
His attention to classes and their purpose appears to need improvement.
A. Dumbledore
Parents are welcome to add their comments below:
How on earth am I supposed to take this report seriously? Binns is even more senile than he was in my day; shouldn't he at least manage to get the house right, as it's already written at the top of the report?
I am quite certain that my son is paying quite as much attention to each class as it deserves, and note that Severus sees his true genius.
As for the accompanying list of pupils' overall position in their year, my son informs me that the name at the top is that of a Mudblood! This is obvious favouritism, as no Mudblood could ever have any real talent for magic.
L. Malfoy
Reply from the Headmaster
I am sorry that you feel this way, Lucius. In defense of Professor Binns, his primary concern is the subject he teaches. His many decades of teaching have led to some confusion in his mind between past and present pupils, which I feel is quite understandable.
I am in no doubt that all the teachers you have doubts about have given accurate marks, and the comments that your son deserves.
No favouritism was involved in the preparation of the list. Miss Granger is indeed the most talented pupil in her year, despite her background. If your son paid as much attention, and put as much effort into his work as she does, he might be at the top of the list.
